I Do 2: The Honeymoon

In the 70's and early 80's when adult films were just beginning to find their legs, the filmmakers still felt obliged to copy the style of conventional films by providing storylines, characters, cinematography, and even occasional production values. This very often yielded hilarious results because, of course, most of the talent in adult films is in the pants of the performers and so the resulting acting and storylines played like a farcical presentation of mainstream cinema. Modern adult films have figured out that storylines, characters, and any efforts at artfulness are not only expensive but also unappreciated, has done away with such nonsense and reduced the vast majority of new films to a guy in a room with a video camera and a couple of naked chicks.

"I Do 2: The Honeymoon" is a great reminder of why these early films, although in many way ridiculous and laughable, are infinitely more entertaining and erotic. "The Honeymoon" picks up where the first "I Do" left off: Randy Spears and Hyapatia Lee are now married and living together in Jersey. Everything seems perfect for the happy couple except for one small thing: Randy's insanely jealous of Hyapatia. No matter what he does, all Randy can think about is Hyapatia having sex with other men. If she doesn't pick up the phone, he pictures her blowing a guy in his car for fifty bucks. If the gardeners are expected that day, he pictures her having sex with both of them at the same time. He is so convinced that she's cheating on him that he goes to all kinds of elaborate measures to make it right, including having sex with his local bartender (played by Raven) and bringing in a male friend (Rocco Siffredi) to have sex with Hyapatia while he watches.

Unlike in newer porn, there are very few hardcore close ups in "I Do 2", and the sex is, for the most part, not overly creative. It's all missionary and doggy, no anal. Sometimes the sex can't even be seen because the performers are holding each other too closely, and in a couple of the scenes there wasn't even a come shot. Also unusual is that the story is often given more importance than the sex. For instance, in the middle a hot lesbian scene between Raven and Dizzy Blonde, the two women stop to chat in order to clear up some plot points. While both of these things might sound as if they get in the way of really enjoying "I Do," the opposite is in fact true. When able to appreciate the viewpoint of the characters, the sex is that much hotter, because it's possible to more fully relate as an audience member. It also makes it an excellent adult film to watch as a couple - with its emphasis on emotion over pure sex as well as its soft core cinematography, it is a good choice for a girlfriend or wife who might be a little skittish about more hard core action.

The best scene in "I Do 2" is when Randy convinces Hyapatia to have sex with another man, Rocco Siffredi, in front of him. Rocco Siffredi has always been the Jean Claude Van Damme of the porn world - i.e., a cheaper action hero - and he lives up to his image here by not saying much but diving in with full when needed. There are some very well done moments showing the discomfort between Hyapatia and Rocco as they try and wrap their minds around having sex with each other in front of Randy, and then when Randy is overcome with jealousy while watching them go at it, the confrontation between he and Rocco feels real.

In the end, however, it doesn't matter how well done anything about "I Do 2" was if the woman at the center of the film wasn't up to the job, however Hyapatia Lee is more than capable in her role. With her all-natural voluptuous body, she exudes sex in every scene without being overly eager - she's soft and charming, seeming to invite without begging, taking control without losing her feminine touch. Also included are three bonus scenes which all feel a little bit random - par for the course with DVD extra scenes. The first is an interracial sex scene with a black woman and white man in gothic make-up, the second is a girl-girl-guy scene involving a slick metallic vibrator, and the third is two girls and a guy having sex with Louisiana bayou music playing in the background. This DVD also features moving chapter titles and previews of upcoming films from Wave DVD.
