Where's My Phantom Lover?

By The Shocker
Kristi Myst is a super-cute sex goddess, and I was very excited about seeing this movie after examining the box cover. Unfortunately, the film is a letdown in many ways.

The story is about a director who gets involved with one of his leading ladies. They form a relationship, and one day she catches him messing around with another actress who's auditioning for a part. Instead of getting pissed at him, she decides to join in the fun, but she also puts a curse on him which prevents him from ever becoming a successful director. Thus, the "Phantom Lover" is born.

You would think that given this kind of story the Cinderella team would be able to make one hell of a production, but the resulting feature leaves much to be desired. First off, this isn't a new movie. The Phantom Lover was produced in 1997, and it really is amazing how much adult film standards have changed only a few years later. The video quality is decent for the most part, but certainly not DVD-worthy. I have no doubt that this was a great film when it first came out on VHS, but on DVD it looks dated and unprofessional.

Secondly, there are hardly any bonus features at all. If the movie kicks ass then this really doesn't matter, but oftentimes viewers look to the bonus material to shed light on an otherwise crappy purchase. Don't get me wrong, now. I'm not calling The Phantom Lover crappy, but all that's offered on the disc is a photo gallery and a few trailers for other not-so-great films.

Most basically, however, is that the film doesn't live up to its description or image on the box cover. I was led to believe that this would be a sexy mystery involving a masked phantom that romances all the lovely ladies of the theatre, namely Miss Buffy. While this is somewhat true by definition, the actual feature's "phantom" doesn't even have a mask to wear. He's just a guy who wears a black outfit and fucks in a few scenes. Oooooo, creepy! Other than that the film is little more than swapping between play rehearsal scenes and sex scenes, all but one taking place in the same room.

The Phantom Lover isn't a total loss, though. There are two good scenes, and of course they both involve Kristi. The first stars Kristi and her director. They have been having problems interpreting the script and character motivation, and Kristi has walked out on the show. Finding out that she has been replaced has upset her greatly, and she comes back to plead with the director that she will be better and taking direction and is willing to do anything to get her part back. Needless to say, the director capitalizes Kristi's offer of "anything" and immediately gets down to business. The other good scene is a lesbian sequence featuring Kristi and the lady who put the curse on the "Phantom Lover". Both girls are really hot, and the way Kristi puts her cute little ass in the air to lick her lady is simply irresistible. Each girl plays with the other one's breasts and gives ample oral attention to the proper places, making this the best part of the entire DVD.

Overall, The Phantom Lover really isn't worth buying unless you're a big Kristi Myst fan, and even then it's not really worth the price of a DVD. The bonus features are poor, the story is weak, and only two of the scenes are really worth watching. Still, the two good scenes are very hot thanks to Buffy, and that definitely counts for something. I wouldn't lie to you. This movie is decent, but you can find something better.
