Route 69

Veteran porn scribe Cash Markman has to be given credit for at least taking from the best of old-time television and recent movies in his 1999 sex video, "Route 69."

This Erotic Angel release on DVD steals from two very popular mainstream productions. In the late 1950s/early 1960s the television show "Route 66" captured the free spirit of America's youth as its two male stars drove across the country trying to "find themselves". Likewise, the mainstream early 1990s movie, "Thelma & Louise" struck a note with its theme of female liberation and self-dependency.

"Route 69" starring Farrah and Tina Tyler as two women on the road (in a corvette sports car, just like in the television show) attempts to weave these same themes into a hardcore production and appeal to an audience that might appreciate the homage. Along the way the girls meet James Bonn, Mike Horner and Buck Adams and finally, Danielle Rogers and Randy Spears. Christian Steel plays Farrah's boyfriend, who's insensitivity, at the very beginning of the video, sends the girls on the road.

So much for the story. There are five sex scenes, and they produce mixed results. The best scene is the opener with Farrah and Christian Steel. Farrah and Christian are both built like brick shit houses - the best bodies that money and Gold's Gym can produce. They go through several positions, with kudos for the bent-over-the-sofa doggie. Farrah looks particularly good from the "bottoms up" position and the reverse cowgirl.

However, while this scene is Best of Show, and both performers are breathing very, very heavy throughout, they still seem to be working by the numbers: there is little chemistry between them, and no real passion. The adult video viewer never really knows if the female performer is faking it, but if I had to pick a scene in which I believed the actress didn't get off, this would be the one.

The next best scene in this production involves Tina with James Bonn, as a gas station attendant who gets payment in a form that your local Standard Oil employees only dream about. Tina, who's not very attractive, takes charge of this scene in more ways than one. Not only is she the aggressor, but her hand-job on Bonn's dick is the most visually stimulating shot in the video. This scene is very big on oral satisfaction, so if blowjobs are what floats your boat, this scene will do it for you.

Danielle Rogers and Randy Spears, a real-life married couple who were very popular in the late 1980s/early 1990s have a scene. It is the final scene in the video, and will probably generate more heat for anyone who has not seen them in their younger (better) days. Danielle's rail-thin body was always less of a turn-on than her beautiful face. Unfortunately, age has taken its toll and now there is very little for the male viewer to admire. More importantly, Randy and Danielle, at least in this scene, offer a justification for not having married couples work together on-screen: they are so use to each other's bodies, they seem to be "working" while they're making love. All of the excitement has left them long, long ago.

This video also contains a nice three-way with Heaven Leigh (in a fantasy sequence) between old timers Mike Horner and Buck Adams. After some heavy-duty foreplay, with the boys caressing and fingering the pumped-up redhead, they sandwich her in between them with Mike taking her from the rear while she sucks off Buck. Mike and Buck still have good stamina (maybe because they don't work as much as they use to) and every man over forty who watches this scene will be proud. The camera work in this scene should be singled out for the shot up between Heaven's legs as Buck pounds away during a standing doggie. Buck also gets the anal honors as he assaults her butt in the missionary position. Both guys give Heaven a good deposit of cum on her chest to close out this scene.

The other sex scene in the video is a girl/girl between Farrah and Tina - for the pleasure of Randy Spears. It's shot quite well, but contains little heat.

All things considered, "Route 69" manages to rise to the level of "average" porn. While it is not "nasty" or mean-spirited enough for the raincoaters, it also suffers from a cast that does not excite. Farrah, like Jill Kelly and Tabitha Stevens, has a beautiful body, but not the covergirl or girl-next-door, face to go with it. So this DVD will probably not work well for the couples audience, either. Which is to say that this DVD may not find a receptive audience among experienced porn fans.

Extras on this DVD include a photo gallery of shots from the production, a scene selection feature and contact information.

Due to sex scenes that look better in the still shots in the Extras Photo Gallery than in the video, and a female cast that will not excite the discriminating viewer, "Route 69" receives a lukewarm recommendation. This DVD will work best with customers who are new to porn or couples just starting out.

Average road vid with Tina Tyler and Farrah fucking their way down Route 69 in a red 'vette. Some dancing pixels in the transfer and a "stereo" mix that puts the music on one channel and the dialogue on the other drag down the "Quality" rating to average.

Average extra collection is a 24-picture self-serve or auto-play slide show, and five numbered chapter stops. Sub-menus do not have a "return to main menu" button.
