Goes Nowhere, Does Nothing...

By Spooky
I'm not sure that the casual fan knows how much press and "hype" goes into each DVD release from the adult studios, but trust me when I say there was a lot of hype circulating from Metro/Cal Vista for Director DCypher's Nowhere Angels. And why shouldn't there be? After all, DCypher was at the helm for previous well-made titles for Metro like Taboo 22 and the vastly underrated My Secret Life.

But this time around, the director (who also wrote the story...although "wrote" is a questionable term, since half the dialogue has the performer quoting other mainstream writers of note) seems to have no direction for his story. If there's a point to Nowhere Angels, it escaped this viewer, and even the sex scenes are nothing to write home about. In short, Nowhere Angels is exactly that: it goes nowhere, and does nothing.

Although Cassie Courtland appears front and center on the box cover, the real star of the movie is Justine Joli, who perhaps didn't get promoted in most of Metro's press releases on the movie since she's a girl-only performer. She plays a character named Rachael, who is dating Tommy (Barrett Blade), the front man in a local band. But she's withholding sex from him, not so much because she wants to remain chaste, but mainly because she's a closet dyke and can't admit it.

Throughout the film, Justine and those around her quote authors such as Hunter S. Thompson and William Golding, and basically bitch about how desolate and futile their lives are. Of course between all this "deep" pontificating is a lot of sex, starting with a sex scene between Riley Mason and Barrett Blade that ends with a facial. I got the impression from both the casting and the sex in Nowhere Angels that DCypher was aiming for the "alt" fans of porn, but sadly DCypher doesn't have the directorial skills of someone like Eon McKai, and most of the sex in Nowhere Angels is just average, at best.

Scene Two in the movie is a pairing between Leah Luv (one of my personal favorites) and Barry Scott that seems to have been shot near Christmastime, since there are several holiday decorations around the two performers. After penetration in the missionary, reverse cowgirl and doggy positions on a couch, Barry shoots his load both into Leah's mouth and across her left cheek.

A poolside sequence between Veronica Jett and Eric Masterson (playing husband and wife) fails to generate any real heat, although it ends with a decent oral shot into Veronica's mouth. It's the next to last scene in Nowhere Angels that impresses the most - thanks both to the presence of Charlotte Stokely and the fact that it's the only multiple-partner scene in the movie...a foursome that includes Cassie Courtland, Johnny Cobalt, and a mohawk-sporting stud named Dominic.

Nowhere Angels wraps up with Justine catching Barrett and Riley together, and then asking Barrett to leave the room so Justine can finally explore her lesbian tendencies with Riley. This is a nice girl-girl pairing that includes a lot of oral and pussy grinding, with no toy use whatsoever. Sadly, none of the sex in Nowhere Angels is enough to redeem the pointless storyline.

While the movie has been shot in the widescreen format, it hasn't been anamorphically enhanced for this release. Extras on the DVD include a decent 31-minute behind the scenes featurette (in many ways, more entertaining than the actual feature); a slide show; four trailers for other titles; some website ads; and an additional photo gallery featuring some banners for websites that are either affiliated with Metro/Cal Vista or help sponsor the release of this movie.
