Cheerleaders

Cheerleaders marks Digital Playground's first "day and date" release on the Blu-ray format, meaning it hits the shelves at the same time the standard DVD does. Assuming you have a Blu-ray player and don't mind paying a little more, there's really no contest about what version of Cheerleaders you should own: in terms of video and audio quality, this Blu-ray is simply outstanding.

Cheerleaders, of course, is kind of a semi-sequel to Director Robby D's Babysitters, which was such a huge hit last year. Once again we have most of the current Digital Playground Contract Girls teaming up with some of porn's other hot performers for a series of sex scenes that rank firmly above most of today's standard porn fare.

I won't go into too much detail about the sexual action, since I've covered it in my review of the standard release (which appears immediately below this review), but will say that the almost 3D-like quality of the action provides the viewer with the closest to a "you are there" experience that one can get on home video these days. The picture literally "pops" with quality, and Cheerleaders looks just as good as many mainstream Blu-ray releases from the Hollywood studios.

Additionally, one of the advantages you'll get on Blu-ray that you don't have on the standard release is the ability to watch Cheerleaders from beginning to end with no interruptions. At 159-minutes in length, Digital Playground opted to spread the title over two DVDs in its standard release. But since there's much more space available on Blu-ray, viewers will be able to watch everything - including the bonus materials - on a single disc.

If there's a downside to all this, it's in the bonus materials. All of the bonuses from the standard release have been transferred over in 1080i, but sadly it's not all that much. Viewers are only treated to a 14 ½-minute behind the scenes segment; text bios for the Digital Contract Girls; and a selection of HD trailers. For the record, the trailers on this disc consist of the following: Pirates; Pirates II; Babysitters; Teen America 3; Jack's POV; Island Fever 4; and Cockasian. The trailer for Cheerleaders is also present, as it runs in the background of the Main Menu page.

After years of being the leader in terms of audio/video quality on standard DVD, Digital Playground is already on their way to becoming the number one adult studio for Blu-ray format releases. The only real step they need to take now is to offer material on their Blu-ray titles that viewers can't get on the standard release. There's so much more interactivity to be explored on Blu-ray - let's hope a studio like Digital Playground takes time to explore the possibilities and not just give us mirror-images of their standard releases (albeit with superior video and audio).

Still, you can't go wrong getting Cheerleaders on Blu-ray. In terms of A/V expectations, it shows how good porn can look in HD.

After their smash success last year with Babysittters it was perhaps only logical that the next big Digital Playground release to team up all their contract girls would focus on that other great male fantasy: Cheerleaders. Once again under the director of Robby D. (who helmed Babysitters), Cheerleaders brings us all our favorite Digital Playground girls in six sexual scenarios, and has also brought along fan-favorites like Brianna Love, Memphis Monroe and Alexis Texas for the fun.

The movie opens in the girls locker room (presumingly right after cheerleading practice), where the girls start playing truth or dare with each other. Memphis Monroe wants the truth from Jesse Jane about whether she's screwed around with her boyfriend Manuel Ferrara or not, and after Jesse tells a G-rated version of their encounter, she decides to tell the X-rated (and true!) version, which leads into the first sex scene.

I've always thought part of Jesse's popularity with fans is the fact that, even though she's a Contract Star, she doesn't shy away from being "slutty" in her scenes. Her first scene in Cheerleaders is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. She totally gets into the sex with Manuel (as opposed to many starlets who just "perform" for the camera), and Manuel encourages her to be nasty - making her say things like "fuck me harder!" during the action. This is one of Jesse's best scenes to date, and that's saying a mouthful. Speaking of which, Jesse gets a nice load in that location at the scene's conclusion.

However, it turns out that Jesse isn't the only one who's been doing things she should be doing. Jesse shows the girls an online website where footage of Memphis in a threesome has been posted. We then flashback to the filming of that scene, which has Erik Everhard and Mick Blue taking turns penetrating Ms. Monroe. The scene ends with both guys jerking off on her face. When we return to the present in the girls' locker room, Jesse and Memphis decide to kiss and make up.

Cute blonde newcomer Shawna Lenee plays a virgin in the next scene, that has her visiting fellow cheerleader Adrianna Lynn at her home. Adrianna's boyfriend, Johnny Sins is still in bed and naked, and Adrianna asks Shawna if she wants to see his cock. One thing leads to another, and it isn't long before the girls are into a three-way. There's a nice pop-shot here, as Johnny is pumping Shawna doggy style with Adrianna in the 69 position below her, so that when he pops, he not only shoots onto Shawna's ass and pussy, but much of the cum drips down into Adrianna's mouth as well.

The next scene takes place in a classroom, where Tommy Gunn is the teacher, and Camryn Kiss, Alexis Texas, Shay Jordan, James Deen and Johnny Sins all play students who are in detention. I was hoping this one would turn into a mini-orgy, but - for the most part - we have the males and females pairing off, with Shay pairing up with Johnny, Camryn joining James, and Alexis getting to seduce teacher Tommy.

Although the running time of Cheerleaders is only 2 hours, 39 minutes (with only average extras), Digital Playground has made the choice of splitting up the movie over two discs - assumingly to provide the best video quality possible (although Babysitters was only a tad shorter and looked great on its single-disc release). So this is the point where you'll have to swap DVDs in your player. Disc Two begins with my favorite scene in the whole movie, as Stoya and Brianna Love join Manuel Ferrara in study hall for a great threesome. Stoya is quickly becoming my favorite Digital Playground girl with a milky-white all-natural body (if DP makes her "enhance" it in any way, they'll be getting a phone call!) and a sexy, almost goth-like, girl-next-door look to her. Stoya also isn't shy about taking anal on camera, and we get to see her get it from the standing doggy position here, right before Manuel pulls out and jerks both onto her ass and into Brianna's mouth.

Cheerleaders ends back in the locker room with all the girls getting into a big lesbian orgy that's quite reminiscent of the way Digital's rival studio Vivid used to wrap up their Where The Boys Aren't titles. "Purist" all-girl fans should be happy to hear that there's no toy use here, just the girls using their tongues and fingers on one another. For the record, the girls making out in this scene consist of Jesse Jane, Sophia Santi, Stoya, Adrianna Lynn, Shay Jordan, Priya Rai, Lexxi Tyler, Brianna Love and Memphis Monroe.

For such a big release (plus the fact that there seems to be plenty of extra room, given the two DVDs), extras are on the slim side, with all of the extras located on Disc 2. Viewers are treated to a 14 ½-minute behind the scenes featurette (which, like the movie, is anamoprhically enhanced), a photo gallery, some trailers, and text biographies for the contract girls in the movie.

Cheerleaders is both a great follow-up and a nice companion piece to Babysitters, and everyone who loved that title should enjoy the hell out of this new one. The only question that remains is what Robby D. will choose to finish off this sexual fantasy trilogy. I'm hoping for Catholic School Girls!

Wow - what a cast of beautiful women. This has to be one of my favorite DVDs in my collection. There is no downside to this video at all. My favorite lady has to be Adrianna Lynn. It's a two-disc set, so you get your money's worth.

This movie smokes! The women are hot, and very into the action. Stoya absolutely burns the screen up in her scene with Brianna and Manuel; and Shawna Lenee is devastating as the virgin ravished by Johnny Sins and Adrianna Lynn. A must-see!
