Bad Luck Betties, The

The latest release from Vivid Alt isn't directed by Eon McKai, but it has his style all over it. Winkyyiki's The Bad Luck Betties is an exercise of style over substance, and one's enjoyment of it is largely going to depend on if you require a story to follow, or if visuals and well-filmed sex are enough to get you off.

The "Betties" of the title are a group of four, hard-edged women who have gained control of a territory known as "Transaction Junction" in 1950's (at least I'm assuming that's the timeline) Los Angeles. The four girls are played by Smoking Mary Jane, Mika Tan, Marie Luv and Bianca Dagger. Also joining in on the fun are Paige Richards as a burlesque dancer who Mary Jane seduces, and Pinky Lee as a blonde who wants to become a member of the "Betties".

The first sex scenes has a police officer played by male performer Daniel making out with Marie Luv at her character's apartment. They try out all the standard sexual positions in a chair, and the scene concludes with him jerking into her mouth and onto her face. Not a great scene, but a solid one.

I'm assuming Smoking Mary Jane (who has a Betty Page vibe to her look) doesn't do males on camera, since her only sexual action in this movie is a lesbian pairing with Paige Richards (who's also sporting a Page-like look). Regardless, this muff-diving tryst is Bad Luck Betties' hottest sequence, with Paige using a black dildo on Mary Jane, and both girls getting quite frisky with each other on a bed. This is one of those sex scenes that will leave you wanting more from both performers.

Scene Three is a bathroom pairing between Bianca Dagger and Tommy Pistol that begins with the two fighting each other, then leads to sex. Although the lesbian coupling in Scene Two was my favorite, this qualifies as the best boy/girl sex in the movie. The only problem I had with this scene was with the cumshot, which has Tommy jerking off into the bathroom sink instead of any part of Bianca's body.

As the only scene with more than two performers in it, Mika Tan's threesome with porn veterans Cheyne Collins and John West should appeal to those who love seeing a girl getting pounded by two guys. For the record, yes, Mika does get double penetrated in this scene, and there's plenty of one-guy anal action as well. The pop-shots are also worth noting, as both guys jerk their loads into Mika's mouth and face.

Last up is Pinky Lee in a scene that has her going to the mayor's office to get some much needed evidence and prove her worth to the other "Betties". Alec Knight plays the mayor, and after getting Pinky to pose for some photographs, he starts fucking her on the office couch, first penetrating her pussy and then moving on to her ass later in the scene. Pinky has picked up a bad habit of closing her eyes tightly during the facial, but I'll give her credit for at least not clamping her mouth shut or refusing to suck the excess jizz off of Alec's tool. She's also the only blonde we get to see in Bad Luck Betties, so that has to be worth a few points as well.

One of my biggest problems with Bad Luck Betties was that it was kind of hard to follow the storyline. This isn't all that unusual for porn, and mostly do to the fact that there isn't much of a story to follow in the first place. Director Winkytiki makes up for the lack of story by giving us a lot of stylized visuals - but I'm sure I'm not the only one who will look at this movie and think "Sheesh! There's more edits here than in a Michael Bay movie!"

Still, it's obvious that a lot of work and effort went into The Bad Luck Betties, and viewers who have enjoyed previous releases from Vivid Alt are probably going to dig this movie too.

While there are no extras on the first disc (only the movie and a chapter selection), Disc Two makes up for it with an impressive 101 minute behind-the-scenes featurette entitled "If You Build It, They Will Come". This is one of the more interesting behind the scenes bits I have seen in a while, in that we get a voice-over commentary by Winkytiki and Eon McKai throughout...so it's almost like a director's commentary track for the bonus material, although viewer's don't have the option of turning their comments on and off.

Also on Disc Two is 74-minutes worth of historic footage, which is public domain material from which Winkytiki took bits and pieces for insertion in the movie. Rounding out the bonus disc are a pair of slide shows and nine trailers for Vivid Alt titles, including the trailer for The Bad Luck Betties.This release also includes a third disc, which is a CD of the soundtrack, containing 11 music tracks from the movie.

Overall, while I found the story hard to follow, I did enjoy most of the sex and a lot of the visuals in Bad School Betties. This isn't the best Vivid Alt movie I've watched, but it delivers more than your average porn release, and for that reason I'm giving it a recommendation.
