Black Owned 3

Being a fan of both Jules Jordan's movies and interracial porn in general, I went into Black Owned 3 with high expectations. However, I'm afraid I have to report that none of my expectations were met - neither in terms of content or the overall presentation of this Blu-ray release. Which isn't to say Black Owned 3 is a bad porno or a poor HD title...it's just a very, very average one.

Since this is a review of the Blu-ray version, let's start first with the picture quality, which is only so-so. For some reason (perhaps due to the camera the footage was shot on), Jules Jordan Video only gives Black Owned 3 a 720p transfer instead of 1080p (or in many cases 1080i). The result is an image that is still sharp, but rather flat and soft in terms of the "wow" factor that Blu-ray can provide. Audio is equally flat with a 2.0 Dolby track that mirrors what's available on the DVD release.

Black Owned 3 doesn't suffer so much from bad direction or bad performances as it does from a simple "been there, done that" vibe. There are really no horrible scenes here, but there are no outstanding ones, either. Viewers who don't watch a lot of stuff from Jules Jordan probably won't notice the lack of energy, but there's clearly a gap in what we get here and some of the titles Jules has directed in the past that are considered "top notch".

Surprisingly, Back Owned 3 doesn't lack genuine talent, as the movie kicks off with porn queen Julia Ann and is followed up by the equally popular Shyla Stylez. Julia's scene is a boy/girl with Sean Michaels, which includes a lot of anal action, something Julia didn't even do on camera a few years back, let alone with a big black cock. Still, there's something very "by the numbers" about Julia's scene, as is there with Shyla's, which even treats us to some double penetration as she joins Sean and Mr. Marcus for a threesome.

Giving credit where credit is due, I will confess to being totally aroused by Annette Schwartz, who ironically isn't generally an adult performer whose titles I seek out. But she looks so damn sexy here in a slinky black dress, long gloves and heels that by the time Rico Strong starts pounding her on a leopard print couch, Ms. Schwartz had totally won me over. Like the previous two women, Annette takes anal in several positions, and the only real problem this scene has is Rico's odd aiming of his pop-shot. Instead of shooting into her mouth or distributing it all over her face, Mr. Strong opts to come almost exclusively on Annette's nose. To her credit, she does her best job of making sure a lot of the jizz still winds up inside her mouth, although I'm sure it took a while for her sinuses to properly clear!

Andi Anderson's scene is really the only one in Black Owned 3 that tries to create a story around the action, with her playing a young (but legal, of course) girl whose parents aren't home but who have hired a pair of guys (C.J. Wright and Justin Long) to work on the family car while their out. Andi's scene starts in the garage, but eventually moves to an indoor couch, where she gets double penetrated for a good portion of the action, and then lies back so the guys can jerk down into her mouth. This is a nice scene if you love watching a girl get DP'd, but overall it's also an average one as Jules Jordan-shot material is concerned.

Not long ago, I reviewed Lex The Impaler 4 on DVD (a much better interracial release, by the way) and complained that Raven Black was the weak point of that title. Well here she is again, teaming up with Sean Michaels for another lackluster pairing. As I understand it, Raven has quite the following on the Internet because she's a married woman who likes to swing with other black men (and film it for your enjoyment). While I suppose seeing her here will appeal to her online fans, I'm not sure it works as well the other way...compared to the other women in the adult industry, Raven is a below average performer, and I have yet to see a scene with her that really turned me on. For the record, she's the only performer in Black Owned 3 who doesn't allow her ass to be penetrated.

The movie wraps up with Aline, who's misidentified in menus as "Alien". There's a joke in there somewhere, but I'm not touching it! Aline actually has the longest scene of the movie, which clocks in at about 45 minutes. Included is a long period of her just posing for the camera, then going downstairs where three guys are waiting for her (C.J. Wright, Lee Bang and Jon Jon). She sucks on each one of them individually, then has them all come together for a mini-blow bang. Like Andi's scene earlier, Aline allows the guys to double penetrate her, and her scene concludes with each one fucking her missionary and then jerking off into her mouth. Not a bad scene overall, but nothing particularly noteworthy outside the double penetration and the fact that this is the movie's only foursome.

Extras on this Blu-ray are also rather average, and mirror what's available on the DVD release: a 22-minute behind the scenes featurette; a 16-minute slide show; and a 10-minute cumshot recap. All of these extras, like the movie itself, are presented in 720p.

I'm probably in the minority among adult reviewers when it comes to this Jules Jordan title, but trust me when I say the industry's best gonzo director has helmed much, much better movies. While fans of Annette's will want to check out her hot sequence, for the rest of you Black Owned 3 should be rental-only territory.
