Last Rose, The

If you're a fan of artsy (read: confusing) erotic dramas, then The Last Rose is for you. I wish I had watched the behind the scenes feature before I watched the movie because it is revealed that The Last Rose is based on a French movie from the 70's about swinging, and that fact would have made watching this movie a lot easier for me. It would have been easier because I would have known that there was no story to follow, and if there was a story, I would have known that there was no way I was going to be able to follow it.

However, all criticisms aside, The Last Rose does feature several great sex scenes, even if you have to wait until halfway through the movie to get to them. There are some sexual situations in the beginning, but it's either difficult to see what's going on or they only involve handjobs or cunnilingus. While the first and the last parts of the movie seem to be taking place in the present, the middle part of the movie takes place two years earlier. Randy Spears' character, Michael, is throwing a New Year's Eve party with his girlfriend/wife/companion who is played by Stephanie Swift. This New Year's Eve party has a twist though - it seems that it's a swinger's party as well.

The first sex scene is between Barrett Blade and Kelly Skyline in a stairwell. For the first real sex scene, it's ok, but it left a lot to be desired. After utilizing a bench for some reverse cowgirl sex, the couple moves into a standing doggy-style position, and the scene finishes with Kelly getting cum all over her face.

The next sex scene is a threesome, and it is the most intense threesome I've ever seen. Jandi Lin and Kimberly Kane are very energetic and enthusiastic, as is Eric Masterson. This is possibly the funniest scene of the entire movie too, because you can just barely hear Kimberly Kane say something about cum getting in her eye whenever she and Jandi receive Eric's load at the end.

A second threesome is up next, and although it is not as intense as the one before it, it is still good. Evan Stone plays the marionette to geisha puppets Dana DeArmond and Ryder Skye. Dana is the most acrobatic of the performers taking part in this threesome, getting her geisha makeup all over Evan Stone. Ryder and Dana leave the scene for awhile when Stephanie joins in the fun, making the threesome a duo. But the girls return and they all get cumshots on their faces.

The last two sex scenes in the movie take place in the present. The first one is between Sasha Grey and Ryder Skye. The interesting thing about this scene is that Ryder Skye is playing a very pregnant woman, so watching the two girls maneuver around her large stomach while still getting each other off with their mouths, hands, and toys is entertaining.

Randy Spears and Sasha Grey finally have sex in the last scene of the movie, and their pairing is supposed to be meaningful and emotion-filled, but it doesn't feel as if Sasha gives the same performance that Randy does.

The Last Rose isn't a title I'd recommend to anyone who just wants to see some people having sex with a clichéd story thrown in to make it interesting. I didn't like the story that much, but I really felt that Randy Spears did a good job of bringing life to his character. I connected to the emotions that his character was having, but beyond Randy's performance, I was not that into this movie.
