Far From Raylene's Best Movie
Vivid's an interesting adult company in that they seem to stockpile movies featuring some of their more popular girls and then release them slowly over time. That's why Raylene, who actually retired from the business a few years back, has a brand-new release in House of Lies. But even though the movie is new to the viewing public, one can immediately tell that it was made a few years ago, as both the video and audio quality is shaky and the production value is just as tedious.
Written and directed by David Stanley, House of Lies does have a few hints of an interesting movie, but it's the follow through that proves unentertaining. For starters, Cheyne Collins wakes up one morning, and after having sex with his girlfriend (played by Venus), he exits his home to pick up the morning paper. While outside, Raylene comes running over to him asking for help, followed shortly by her angry boyfriend. The boyfriend accuses Raylene of with Cheyne, and for some odd reason, Raylene says she has been. This leads to a brief fight between the two...and yep, you guessed it, the police just happen to be in the neighborhood. Believe it or not, Cheyne gets two years in prison for getting into a fight that lasts about five seconds and one where he doesn't even throw a punch!
Two years later, Cheyne is released from prison and meets up once again with Raylene, who wants to make up by giving Cheyne 5 million dollars! But for some strange reason, instead of running down to the bank, cashing the check and getting the hell away from this woman who sent him to prison, Cheyne takes the check, doesn't cash it and agrees to stay at this "mansion" (which really looks like a dump) with Raylene and his new personal housekeeper, played by April.
Speaking of April, if there's a bright spot to this DVD, it's in her two sexual performances. She first has a scene with Cheyne, which is followed shortly by a lesbian scene with Raylene. Despite being a fan of Raylene, watching April was the only real pleasure I got from the movie - which may explain why this one sat on the shelf so long before Vivid decided to release it. The rest of the story is some hodge-podge about a white slavery ring and Cheyne's choice to sacrifice his future so April can get her boyfriend back (why he does this is anyone's guess).
The good news for Raylene fans is that there are a number of bonus scenes on this DVD featuring Raylene from other titles (assuming you don't already own them) that are all more enjoyable than any of the scenes she has in House of Lies. There are also bonus scenes with Violet Love and Ginger Paige included on the disc, although neither of the actresses appear in the feature presentation. Additional bonus material includes a couple of slide shows, a behind the scenes segment that runs just over ten minutes, multiple angles and a handful of trailers.
Unless you are a die-hard fan who must own all of Raylene's movies, I suggest steering away from this one and getting one of Raylene's more memorable movies, such as Bad Wives 2 or All There Is.
