Orgy in Black

It's not often that elements such as cemeteries and zombies find their way into a porno screenplay. This is just one thing which makes Orgy in Black (Orgie en noir) that much more unique and enticing. Produced by French powerhouse Marc Dorcel back in 1999, this one marks the directorial debut of Ovidie. Not only did she direct this fine piece of Euro-smut, but she also wrote it and stars in it...and she did all of this at the age of 20! Ovidie just might be the Orson Welles of the French porn scene.

Orgy in Black centers around a couple (Daniella Rush and Titof) who seem to have a penchant for having sex in strange places. Apparently the backseat of a car isn't quite bizarre enough, so after jizzing on Daniella's thigh, Titof suggests heading over to a presumably haunted cemetery. Daniella is reluctant at first but eventually gives into her boyfriend's persistence. While the two drive to the new location, we're treated to a bizarre dance/musical number involving a gorgeous topless dancer (Diosa), a girl twirling fiery batons (Juliette Dragon), and a guy breathing fire, all set in the Queen of the Dead's (Ovidie) chamber. I know, it sounds weird but it really adds something to the movie, and also sets the stage for what lies ahead. Sure, the action and choreography is more reminiscent of Ed Wood's Orgy of the Dead than anything Busby Berkeley ever did, but it still has an enchanting effect.

When the couple arrive at the cemetery, Titof begins fondling Daniella and the two start screwing on top of a stone crypt. Unexpectedly, the two are struck dead by a bolt of lightning before the scene's anticipated conclusion. Their seemingly lifeless bodies are carried to the Queen's chamber by a group of zombie-like men. There they wake-up, only to be told that they're dead. The Queen chides them for their disrespectful antics and banishes them to wander the cemetery for eternity. Disbelieving the Queen's curse, Titof and Daniella run from the Queen's chamber in an attempt to find their way out of the cemetery. After splitting up, Titof runs into the Queen looming inside a crypt with one of her minions (Christopher Lee). Instead of running away, Titof lets her go down on him and even lets her ride him reverse cowgirl. Following what appears to be a DP (with the zombie guy on the bottom), Titof blows his load on the Queens's pelvis and comically gathers his pants and runs out of the crypt.

While the Queen returns to her chamber for some entertainment (involving Silvia and Karma as statues in a four-way with a couple of the zombie guys), Daniella and Titof reunite and promise not to separate again. To cement their new bond, the two have sex against a large tree. Daniella looks amazing gripping the trunk of the tree while Titof knocks it in from behind. She also takes Titof's cock up her ass (in a reverse cowgirl) with incredible ease. Titof's pop shot is nearly non-existant (at least not visible) but I was impressed to see him even get it up considering the quantity of tail he just tagged.

The last act doesn't really involve Daniella and Titof, but rather a girl (Dora Venter) chased into the cemetery by a couple of thugs (Bruno Sx and Marc Barrow). She finds cover behind a crypt and watches as her pursuers are distracted by a pair of succubi (Krisztina and Sandra Russo). These stunning blondes go right to work, sucking their cocks, and offering their tight holes to the intruders. After the guys pop their loads, the girls make them dematerialize by biting their necks...okay. Krisztina and Sandra bring Dora to the Queen. In one of the more hilarious moments, Dora nonchalantly agrees to become one of the dead...perhaps it's the dubbing on the English audio track which makes this moment so funny. After Sandra and Krisztina wash Dora's body, the Queen initiates her in a pretty decent girl/girl scene. Apparently this distraction allows Daniella and Titof to escape. I guess they weren't dead after all, but the ambiguous ending intentionally leaves this matter unresolved.

The DVD for Orgy in Black is just as impressive as the feature itself. Although most of the movie is shot in dark/night conditions, the picture looks incredibly sharp with only a slight hint of pixelation. However, I can forgive this flaw because it's presented in an anamorphic widescreen format which gives the picture a much crisper definition. The primary language track is in French and offers a nice 5.1 surround format. The surround channels aren't really utilized to get the full effect, but it's still a nice addition. The other language tracks (English, German, and Spanish) are offered in stereo, but exhibit the shortcomings of dubbing. For some reason the German track features different music not heard in the others. Since I prefer the original soundtrack to dubbing I would have appreciated an English subtitle option but the only subtitles available are Dutch, Swedish, and Portuguese.

The extras included are quite impressive but unfortunately the rather lengthy behind the scenes featurette (30 minutes) is in French. I would have loved to hear the interview with Ovidie at the beginning of this featurette, but there's no option to switch language tracks or activate subtitles...I guess I could always learn French. The cast bios are a bit better, offering a rusty but appreciated English translation of the French text. A photo gallery, a trailer, and a bonus scene round out the title specific extras. The bonus scene runs for about 12 minutes and features Sandra Russo(?) and a guy getting it on in an archway. I'm not sure how this scene fits into the story, which is probably one of the reasons it was cut. The disc also contains another behind the scenes featurette (21 minutes) and a trailer for Ovidie's next feature, Lilith.

Orgy in Black is tailor made for the Goth crowd and should also appeal to anyone looking for a change from the tiresome recycled story lines permeating most features. While the narrative and production values are extremely strong, the sex scenes could have been better. The performances are fine but the rather conservative camera angles and the extensive use of condoms keep this one from reaching perfection. That said, it's a phenomenal entry for a first time writer/director... and star. After winning numerous awards in Europe, Ovidie looks to gain her fair share of popularity and recognition in the States with her unique style and vision. After this I'll certainly be waiting to see more of her work.

I have been an avid buyer of all the Wicked/Marc Dorcel DVDs and they are all nicely done. Orgy In Black is from 1999 and displays Dora Venter who is now with PRIVATE. The movie runs a little over 2 hrs with 8 sex scenes, including 2 lesbian scenes.

The picture is great and the audio is great also. The features are something to shout about, as you get behind-the-scenes, interviews and a bonus scene. So if watching European ladies getting fucked in the ass excites you, then you might wanna check out Orgy In Black (Orgie en Noir)!
