Sex In The Second Realm

From the moment you glance at the spectacular photo of the simply gorgeous Raylene on the cover of SEX IN THE SECOND REALM, there is some high hope that maybe, just maybe, the contents will match the attractive packaging. Unfortunately, this shot-on-video feature suffers from some highly distracting visual problems which mar the overall viewing experience. Directed by Robert April, SEX IN THE SECOND REALM deliberately employs over-lit, overly red video to give it a gonzo look a la Buttman or Seymore Butts, but the artistic execution gets in the way of the erotica.

And again, there is the ever persistent problems of multiple angle shots. During certain scenes you get a garishly large "ANGLE 1-2-3" icon which allows you to view the flick from several camera positions. If there were some way to turn the graphic off, then I would be happy camper, and the Extras category would have warranted a higher rating. Instead, we're to endure the presence of that damn icon on the upper right hand side of the screen. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I want my porn viewing experience to be akin to watching a movie, and not playing a video game. Enough said...

The movie centers around Raylene, whose acting skills are considerable given the cultish, semi-serious nature of the story. The dark settings of the so-called "Second Realm" aren't exactly conducive to fun-luvin', free-for-all sex, so I preferred to overlook the heavier concepts in the movie and just concentrate on the heavenly bodies stripping naked and getting down and dirty. Slutty Chennin Blanc is just the right kind of blonde, big chested porn babe who looks right at home getting banged anally by Nick East and Steve Taylor. The chapter title of her scene is called "Bathroom Banging" which is an accurate description of what occurs. This is the raunchiest scene in the whole flick, and while a promising start, the remainder of the video doesn't fulfill one's high expectations.

Brunette Lola gives a private dance and offers an intimate session with Ian Daniels, who gets deep throated in a sweaty frenzy against a black background. I really enjoy watching Lola, having seen her in movies like THINGS CHANGE 3, and prior Raylene flicks like SEX AND THE STRANGER. With over a hundred titles to her credit, it will be awhile before I can catch up with all her work, but needless to say, she looks her finest in Vivid Video productions.

Raylene takes a relaxing bath before going down on and getting screwed by Voodoo. I don't think I've ever heard Raylene moan so loudly and in such ecstasy than in this scene, which would otherwise have been straightforward had it not been for Raylene's oral and aural skills. A foursome with Ian Daniels and Tasha Hunter, Adajia, and McKayla is almost ruined by the eye-straining black and white photography, all which looks like it was shot through an opaque window. It's rare that we get to see a trio of women performing so well and with such enthusiasm in a foursome (for that matter, it's pretty rare that we get a foursome at all), so I could not help but lament how much better this scene would have been without all the visual distractions. The triple blowjob is great stuff, but again would have been better off filmed au naturel. Let me just say, however, that dark-haired Tasha Hunter looked especially enticing between the two blondes, and that I'll definitely be looking out for more of her work in other DVDs.

Raylene's and Lola's scene is slow, but intense, and greatly aided by the prolonged kissing which takes place between the muff diving which eventually follows. As girl-girl vignettes go, this isn't one that would even come close to approaching classic standards. A cucumber wrapped in plastic then wrapped in a condom is used to penetrate Raylene's inner regions, but this action pales in comparison to the two brunettes locking lips during their foreplay. Admittedly, the titillating kisses are sometimes difficult to see due to the shadows, black background and less than ideal camerawork, but it's what saved this film from getting a below average rating.

The extras are slight on this disc: a "Positions Room" allows you to jump to whatever type of sex strikes your fancy, including a cumshot recap. The Angles Room is the most superfluous of them all; I mean, does anyone really enjoy switching back and forth between angles just for the hell of it? The "Bonus Rooms" features three scenes with Lexus (DEBBIE DOES DALLAS 99), Raylene (SPEEDWAY) and Dayton (THE BLACK ROOM). Let me tell you, seeing Raylene's tight body fitted in that one-piece uniform was enough to make me pick up a copy of that flick, and I have a feeling that SPEEDWAY would probably be a more enjoyable porner than this one under review (but then again, I'll soon find out).

Solely as a Raylene flick, this film pretty is a step below some of the better titles of hers I've had the pleasure to watch, but this is due mostly to some avoidable technical difficulties than with any conduct (or lack thereof) by her. I'm guess that the inevitable release of BAD WIVES 2 on DVD will display her in a production worthy of her talents. But in the meantime, a lot of her good looks and hot performances are being on lackluster films.
