Pornstar Perspective

Third Degree will probably forever be my favourite gonzo company, just for the quality they put into each production. Every film seems to be technically sound, with a variety cast, well made menus, and just at the right price. They're the kind of company I hope is making quite a lot of money in this economy. With Pornstar Perspective, we get a very premise that this is supposed to be good quality porn, impossible to screw up. A shame that they still pulled it off.

Ann Marie Rios is up first, teasing the camera with her body and what she says she's going to do to us. I am disappointed that we have the camera operator reach-around, the cardinal sin of porn-making. I want the camera operator to just film, and if there has to be interaction from other talent, have them be on camera. What we get is a shot that is way too close and poorly aimed as a result, the camera operator in self-indulgence rather than on making a quality product. It only happens a couple of times, so it isn't so bad, but it is a really egregious error. The switch in and out of POV is a bit disorienting, especially as so much of it is in the confined space of POV. More establisher shots, and staying with them longer, would have been much better. I just with they would have made up their minds. It would be a good POV facial, but the lighting is so high that the cum itself is washed out. They go to the second camera basically after he's done, which is dumb, as that one is balanced for higher light. They could have captured the whole thing better than they did. So close to being a good scene, but still so screwed up.

Tori Black seems to finally be getting the respect she deserves, but the blonde who introduced the first scene is again complaining that something is wrong with porn that she can't masturbate to it anymore, that it's no good. Yeah, well, this hasn't been very good either, all because you're trying to do a gimmick and you're doing it badly. I watch and review a lot of films each month, and there's plenty of good. This means I find this woman annoying. Thankfully she doesn't pester Tori for long, even if Tori is joining her in the complaints. I agree that many of the angles they're doing now are all fucked up, but for different reasons. I just think they're mostly too low, so that it's a crotch and legs with a head above it. The rest of their complaints seem to be rather contrived. Bah. Now I'm annoyed.

It's more mostly POV work, with Tori staring down the camera during a vigourous blowjob. The teal nail colour is throwing me off a bit, though. Kind of like an old person's bathroom, this colour. The POV reverse cowgirl is fun, though a bit shaky, as she bounces too much for the camera to stabilize. They mostly use the standard camera angle for this sequence just because of the bouncing. He needs to be further up on the bed to stabilize that. Hard to watch, and it makes it seem technically naïve. The money shot this time is from the standard camera from the side, zoomed in far too much, then slowly zooming back out as most of it lands in her mouth. If we're showing off the POV stuff, shouldn't they do both shots sequentially so we can see both? No?

Raylene is a pro, so at least she knows what she's doing. Look, they repeat the line from Tori's sequence about taint! How original! This film needs to stop now. Raylene shows off nicely for the camera, and it's some of the better editing in this film through this part. She locks in with her eyes very nicely, though the camera seems to be too far away from her in addition to not being completely steady. A standard scene, this one, mostly not POV, with a pop shot on Raylene's pussy. Average.

I get the concept with Pornstar Perspective, but to say that the execution was terrible is an understatement. Don't get me wrong: the action itself is fine. It's just a directorial disaster, with an annoying premise that doesn't accomplish much of anything other than detract from the action rather than add to it. Third Degree and Mike Quasar can do far better than this, both in reducing annoying dialogue (dialogue itself is fine, but immature and pedantic is not a good combination) and in getting the camera shots correct. Pornstar Perspective, if there is to be a sequel, needs some retooling to better capture the hard work of the talent on hire.
