Barely Legal Brazil

Based on years of familiarity with the BARELY LEGAL series, I had modest (as in low) expectations for BARELY LEGAL BRAZIL, which, sad to say, were not exceeded by the final product. Once again, director Erica McLean has yet to go beyond the stagnant creative standards set forth by her husband, the late Clive McLean (who created the extremely popular original series), and the result is a title nearly indistinguishable from any average edition of BARELY LEGAL. While early volumes were daring and enjoyable, the brand name has become routine and lazy over the years, and the change in directors (since Clive's death in 2004) has not revitalized the formulaic presentation. Consistency is fine and dandy when it comes to delivering an ongoing product, but the cumulative results can be stupefyingly predictable.

Six scenes make up the main feature: "Chapel Cock" features cute blonde Nicole Gaucha and Roge doing it outside of a place of worship. "Schooner Slut" shows Lana and Victor Gaucho getting off a boat and having sex on a beach. "Poolside Pussy" stars sexy Pit Garcia seducing the pool cleaner (perhaps the hoariest cliche in porn, right after the pizza delivery boy). "Happy Ending " features Monica (who is apparently famous in Brazil) as a personal masseuse to William. And finally, "Island Fever" pairs up big-titted Anne with Kid Jamaica on a beach (which is only a slight variation of "Schooner Slut").

I have no real complaints about the sex itself. As advertised, all scenes feature anal action, and some of the girls are quite attractive though no one truly stands out above the rest (save for Nicole Gaucha who is blonde and fair-skinned and therefore most noticeable among all the other darker-skinned ladies). The only difference between this release and the ongoing series is the Brazilian cast and location. Otherwise, BARELY LEGAL BRAZIL follows the same pattern: Dull and lifeless, American-accented monologues are spit out at the very beginning of each scene immediately before the hardcore action; and then the same straightforward, static sex acts are displayed from beginning to end. There's little in the way of build-up (we hear Nicole talking about how she's always wanted to do it outside of a chapel, and in not time at all, we find her masturbating openly on a bench outside), and tease and seduction are kept to a bare minimum Even worse, some of the narrative contradicts the action: Pit Garcia (perhaps the best looking of the cast) keeps her eyes and lips tightly closed even though she requests her guy to cum in her mouth, and Monica dribbles out a modest dab of splooge despite the audience being told how she loves to swallow.

The Behind The Scenes featurette is disappointing as well. Running less than four minutes long, the video shows Director Erica (looking quite attractive) coaching Monica, who is then introduced to the camera, but any further discussion is cut short by overdubbed music and a montage of hardcore scenes and photoshoots. The other documentary, "Barely Legal: How It All Began" is composed the same way, and is just about as informative. The trailers and promos for Hustler are pretty much the same old stuff.. Otherwise, video quality is quite good thanks to the mostly outdoor settings, where the only real problem is sunlight glare and occasional white balance problems. The audio is also acceptable, despite the blaring music soundtrack which obscures any (foreign language) dialogue and buries the natural sounds of sex.

If I wanted this kind of routineness, I would have just stuck with the regular series. Going to Brazil just isn't worth the trip.
