Other Holidays are Better

By Oranje
Bear in mind that I hate horror films. Absolutely cannot stand them. They set up a kind of paranoid world to me where you have to be afraid of everything around you, and they form a kind of pornography of violence. I'll take my pornography of sex, thank you very much. Thankfully, like most fuck flicks, this parody doesn't bother all that much with plot, preferring to keep the sex, er, coming. I do appreciate the studio's effort to include "Based on the Original Version" at the top of the box. Yeah. Instead of basing it on Halloween 4? Or It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown? Come to think of it, that would be funny.

A few technical complaints to get out of the way initially here: the lighting is not nearly good enough in this flick for it to be a legitimate feature. Shadows everywhere, and the lighting is just lacking, not even that soft set of blues and purples for which Wicked is so infamous. Here it's just a collection of shadows and general interference with seeing what's going on. Besides that, and not really being able to tell to what some of this is an homage, I suppose it's decently assembled.

Big thanks, however, to Smash Pictures for thinking about those of us who don't want to bother with the slasher film aspect and providing the option to watch an all-sex version of this film. Yes, I opted for that , so please forgive a complete lack of commentary on the plot. Somehow I'm doubting that matters to you.

The opening scene with Raven Alexis is probably my favourite on this disc, and I think that's saying something in a film with Lexi Belle, Andy San Dimas, and Lilly Labeau on offer. This one seems to be the best captured of the lot, though, even if the performance feels more than a bit contrived. Raven is trying to sell how good it all feels just a bit too much in my eyes. As in she's moaning when her partner isn't even doing anything.

As an aside, if you choose the option to select a particular scene instead of watching the whole film, think of the implications for the adult industry when it is only the female talent that is used to identify a scene. I will admit straight away to being most interested in the female talent - that's usually why I watch. And OranjeWife prefers the ladies to the gentlemen, so she's in the same boat. I'm lucky in that way. But for couples and other non-traditional viewers of porn, this is something of a marketing problem. It's hardly equitable, is it?

Anyhow, Raven takes a mouth shot, and then I flip to Andy's scene. Dark, that's the best way to describe this one. As in there is not nearly enough lighting in this room. Otherwise, unlike the menu options, this is a very couples-friendly scene (as, really, was the first one). A bit of weird cum play in the end, but that's just Andy being Andy. Body shot, incidentally.

Lexi Belle's career seems to still be progressing strongly. I still wish she'd go back to the short hair, but that doesn't seem likely right now. Poor lighting again in this scene, and the camera angles aren't so great in this one, either. A good show from the talent, but it was somehow just not well captured. I wish this one were better.

Bonus features are remarkably standard here, with the usual behind the scenes (fun if it's a film you like, but frequently useless), a photo gallery (while it's getting late in the day for DVDs, I still don't understand why studios don't include these photos on the disc for download, complete with their watermark - it would be such a marketing opportunity), previews for other films, and a link to their website, in case you missed it the three different places it's printed on the box.

Halloween was okay, but maybe the well is starting to run dry for some of these parodies, especially if they're really just going to be typical low-budget features that lack a compelling plot. That's not a tribute to the original: it's a bit of script laziness. Not my thing, but your mileage will vary.

Synopsis:

2012 AVN Award Nominee for Best Parody - Drama.

It was on Halloween night that a young Michael Myers inexplicably slaughtered his slutty older sister (Raven Alexis). Fifteen later, he escapes a mental hospital and returns home. Spotting a scholarly looking teenager, Laurie (Lily Labeau), the deranged psychopath Michael lusts after her and stalks her.

Finding her trampy friends, Annie (Andy San Dimas) and Lynda (Lexi Belle) engaging in carnal acts with their boyfriends on Halloween eve, just as his sister did years ago, sets Michael off. While her friends are off engaging in sex acts and getting killed, the responsible Laurie is at home babysitting. Unable to reach her friends by phone, Laurie becomes suspicious and walks across the street to Annie's darkened house and comes fact to face with Michael Myers himself.
