Bad Behaviour

By Oranje
A film titled Power & Control could conceivably be a courtroom drama, or one of those late 90s police dramas or something like that. It just has that feel about it. But made into the adult world? Well, that does tend to sound a bit like a BDSM film, no?

That's why I was surprised to see this as a Digital Sin release, though the premise simply seems to be a bit rougher than a couples film. Know that going in, as this probably isn't the ideal film for an introduction to the adult world. That isn't to say this is some kind of hard, raunchy kind of thing. Power & Control is clearly more in-line with a decently budgeted feature flick, and the directing shows excellent thought and planning. Though watching the opening bit, where a quite young Maddy O'Reilly walks in to someone's office while he's working. He needs to upgrade his office supplies, for one thing. A cheap pencil and a yellow notepad? No, no. Not in such a mansion. Let's get this guy some better supplies. But then this gets into an ugly bit of entrapment and extortion, and I'm massively uncomfortable with the premise. There's a little of bit of unnecessarily extreme close-up action here, usually with part of a face taking up the entire screen. Some of these shots, in fact, should not have survived the editing process. Based on the premise, there's quite a bit of choking and the like. Oh, and the plot twist is that Maddy was taping it. Ugh. Save the artificial drama, please. Now we've got Lizzy London in a faux prison situation. Hey, more extortion! Shot between two industrial bookshelves, this one is rather awful on camera angles, and it's even worse on behaviour between these two. I flat-out hated this scene. Oh, and of course it was all in his imagination... Lily La Beau is up next, and we're back in an office-type setting. This one also appears to be a room in a house dressed up to look like a work space. Sexual harassment time here. Oh, and the "stop playing little boy games, be a man, and pull out your dick" is insulting to everyone. Let's see... what's the ending twist
this time? Not much of one, really. It's kind of emotionless. Finally, there's Jessie Andrews. There's no easy way to say this... this one has a bit of a feel to it. And when I say a bit, it looks like a . As far as I'm concerned, this one crosses the line with what can and should be shown in an adult film. If we haven't learned anything from the mistakes made by Extreme Associates, then they're just going to be repeated. This is also exactly the kind of content that makes the adult industry a target for the moralists on the right and the feminists on the left - and I happen to agree with the latter most of the time. Loud, aggressive, and largely involuntary, this scene then ends with James Deen being even more of a jerk, shrugging the whole thing off and leaving her there while Jessie suddenly "misses" him. Horray for portraying victimhood like this! Nice job! Just a vile thing to do... that's not power or control in the sexually fun sense. That's emotional and psychological abuse. And if Digital Sin is throwing
their lot in with that, then good luck to them. I won't follow or defend. On the plus side, as they've been wont to do as of late, Digital Sin is throwing in a bonus film for free with many of their releases. I got Little Miss Innocent? in mine, and at least that one seemed to be consenting adults. Still, there is always that feeling of "here's a bonus of a film that we had leftover because we couldn't sell enough!" I do not like this film. It is not because of the technical aspects - many of which could have been better - nor is it because of the talent per se. It is because Jacky St. James, Eddie Powell, and Digital Sin have chosen to perpetuate the worst stereotypes about our industry in a very uncomfortable four-scene film. There might be some power, but they've lost control.
