The Mile High Club

By Diesel
Over the last few years, adult features have become synonymous with cliched, superficial and predictable parodies of old, mindless and best-forgotten television shows. What was once a cute novelty in erotic entertainment has now become a tiresome trend, so it's great to have an original movie like FLY GIRLS come along and relieve viewers of all that monotony. In short, this film by Robby D. is nothing short of a miracle for discriminating audiences whose minds and libido have ebbed away due to the merciless onslaught of titles like THIS AIN'T HOLMES AND YOYO, NOT ELECTRA WOMAN AND DYNA GIRL, NOT REALLY MAN FROM ATLANTIS or HELLO LARRY: A XXX PARODY (just to name a few videos which may or may not appear in the future).

Now, just so Adult DVD Empire patrons don't have to suffer through the rest of my unashamedly gushing (but honest) review of this porn epic, let me state upfront that FLY GIRLS is an excellent flick, with lush videography, impressive production values, and of course, superior hardcore performed by a wet-dream cast. If you're looking for a title which offers the immediacy and rawness of gonzo, presented with a cinematic elegance closely approaching the mainstream, then cum onboard and fly these friendly skies.

What I enjoy most about FLY GIRLS is that it takes hoary porn cliches (stewardesses, a movie about the making of a movie) and reinvents them with a fresh approach and high erotic energy (similar successful results have been obtained by the Robby D. in titles like NURSES and TEACHERS). Adult actresses assume the roles of insatiable flight attendants for a reality TV show filmed aboard an aircraft. "Pilot" Evan Stone leads the girls, but all the fun and games are upset by overzealous security and problems in the cockpit. The movie pays homage to all those AIRPORT disaster movies from the seventies, as well as the classic AIRPLANE! from 1983. Several in-jokes regarding the porn industry, adult filmmaking, and egotistical pornstars are scattered here and there, giving the dialogue some dry wit and allowing the actresses to make fun of themselves.

Manuel Ferrara and Sasha Grey plays the filmmakers, while Ben English plays a stuttering airport security (with Officer Raven Alexis by his side), determined to thwart this insidious plot. Jenna Haze, Katsuni, Jesse Jane and Riley Steele play the acting stewardesses, each with a specific personality: Jenna is the self-congratulatory porn princess who can't stop bragging about her acclaim, Riley is an over-the-top dumb-blonde, Katsuni is a snooty Parisian, and Jesse Jane is the brains of the group. Lisa Ann, Diamond Foxx and Nikki Benz play "real" flight attendants, who are initially confused with being part of the show and thus detained by security, while the actual porno actresses make their way onboard. Janie Summers, looking fantastic in a loose tee-shirt and Daisy Dukes, plays a passenger who gets into Evan's cockpit (an obvious joke, which thankfully, is raised and disposed of early on in the movie).

As expected, not all the actors and actresses are capable of verbalizing Robby's script with the comedic timing and emotion necessary to make the jokes work as intended. But the line deliveries are at the very least competent, and the girls stay consistent with their characters. Even without the hardcore, there is a sense of infectious fun in FLY GIRLS. Jenna Haze is never without a carnally mischievous smile on her gorgeous face, and Jesse Jane looks like she's having a great fun with her role. (Compare her playfully dramatic, tongue-in-cheek acting to the dead-eyed, emotionless performances in some of the recent sitcom parodies and you'll find out which adult comedy is the one worth your complete attention.)

Of course, it helps to have Olympian talents giving it their all in every scene. All the girls look fantastic their flight attendants outfits, which have been customized with extra short skirts, garters fishnet stockings, and towering high heels. It's pure eye-candy from beginning to end. Needless to say, having Miss Haze (who does it with Scott Nails), Sasha Grey (in a threesome with Raven Alexis and Manuel Ferrara) and Miss Jane (joining with Riley Steele to take on Marco Banderas) in one package makes FLY GIRLS an easy must-see, and an even easier must-buy. Rest assured that fellow co-starlets Janie Summers (getting porked in the first sex scene by Evan Stone), Katsuni (appearing a dominating threesome with passengers Mick Blue and Erik Everhard) and Lisa Ann (probably the most popular MILF in porn, and as always excelling in hers cene featuring Diamond Foxx, Nikki Benz and Ben English) are also up to speed, but unabashed favoritism compels me to mention my favorites first.

Standout scenes include Raven's uncontrollably orgasmic reaction as Manuel and Sasha seduce her into submission, followed by Ben English getting sexually assaulted by the three stewardesses following a rather humorous interrogation. Also notable is the luscious double-team blowjob delivered by Riley and Jesse on janitor turned air traffic controller Marco Banderas. It's great to see a video which is composed of more than just a string of guy-girl scenes (and broken up by the obligatory lesbian affair in between). The variety of hot bodies and multi-partnered shtupping means that speed-searching by the viewer will be kept at a minimum.

As far as the actual production is concerned, few will complain about the design and notable special effects of FLY GIRLS. The CGI-created skies and airplane are very well-done, and visually enhances the sexual proceedings, particularly during the first scene where clouds can be seen through the windows of the cockpit while Evan and Janie do their thing. The musical score, which is especially prominent prior to Jenna Haze's scene with Scott Nails, and later leading up to the foursome featuring Lisa Ann, is surprisingly well-orchestrated, and would fit right at home in a Tim Burton comedy. I'm not sure if it's a wholly original score, or "borrowed" from another source, but whatever the case, it fits the movie well and is appropriately dialed out when during the bump and grind scenes.

The picture quality is absolutely first rate, especially for standard DVD. Early in the film, Sasha Grey's character explains that a total of hidden cameras are placed onboard to capture all the details. Naturally, I feared that most of the action would be presented via their static, low-resolution and stationary viewpoints (as seen in most of those annoyingly fake "caught on video" titles). Fortunately, Robby D. avoids those trappings and presents viewers with well-captured and gorgeously presented images which are a feast for the eyes. Though originally shot in high definition, the standard definition images looks great, and will more than satisfy those who have yet to switch to Blu-ray. Both picture and sound are top-notch, and the three-hour running time (spread across two discs) generously accommodates all the fucking and sucking scenes without cutting them too short.

The only reason FLY GIRLS fails to receive a perfect score across is the board is due to the less than excellent bonus features. The Behind The Scenes segment (found on Disc 2) is well-produced and great fun to watch. It runs over minutes and gives a day by day overview of the production, including interviews with the director and stars, some outtakes, and other "making of" information. Unfortunately, that is the only thing unique about this disc, as the rest of the extras include a familiar set of trailers, a photo gallery, and some basic studio information. It's a shame, because a movie of this caliber deserves greater fanfare, perhaps on the level of what was offered in 2009's award-winning THE 8TH DAY. That being said, I have to say that the lack of special features don't take away from the excellence of the main feature. It's just that a few dozen minutes or so of extended hardcore footage, or anything else edited from the movie would have produced some added value to this instant classic.

In the end, I really can't praise FLY GIRLS enough without sounding too much like an overzealous fanboy and raising suspicions that I'm on Robby D.'s payroll. But I call them as I see them, and I see FLY GIRLS as being one of the Best Features of 2010.

I just love seeing naked women. And lisa ann is great in any movie. Haven't see this one yet. But going to soon. Tired of people's bad reviews on adults movies. Who never get tired of looking at naked chicks all day?

Best Flight Movie

By DennyCrane
Everything i wanted to see from my favorite contract girls. Two things this movie was missing was Stoya and Shay Jordan. It would have been a complete movie with them. Still it was great to see Jenna Haze and Sasha Grey again.
