Vivid Girls Vol. 1, The

Over the past several years, Adult DVD Empire has been given the chance to work with a number of big-name studios on a number of exclusive compilations. But when Vivid came-a-knockin', we were both excited and worried. Excited because here was the chance to do some exclusive releases with perhaps the most noteworthy company in porn; and worried because - with all the compilations Vivid has released over the years - how could we come up with something that would be different than anything customers had seen before in a Vivid compilation?

Given access to every scene ever released on DVD from Vivid, I knew we'd be able to come up with something special, but needed an angle. Then it hit me. Why not release a series of compilations that contained, in order of the year the movie was produced, at least one scene featuring every Vivid Girl the studio had over the years. It would be a daunting task (watching porn scenes all day, every day, gets draining...in more ways that you'd think!), but I think the results are pretty fantastic, if you'll excuse the momentary self-promotion.

There was one caveat, which I'm sad to report - and that's due to legal reasons (i.e. her contract arrangement regarding her titles), we couldn't feature any scenes with Tera Patrick...but that's the only Vivid Girl who didn't make these DVDs. But everyone else is here - including fan favorites like Jenna Jameson, Christy Canyon, Janine, Ginger Lynn, and current stars like Savanna Samson and Stefani Morgan.

The next step in development was trying to decide which scenes to use, and we basically decided on two rules. First, if the scene was hot, put it on the comp - regardless of whether it's already appeared on dozens of other comps. But second, try and pick the best scene available with the talent in question, even if the scene chosen was not one that often made the rounds in Vivid comp releases. By making sure to do both, I think we provided three volumes that will appeal both to the "newcomer" and the "die-hard fan" of Vivid Pictures and their incredible female talent.

Now let's talk a little more specifically about this title, Vol. 1 in the series. It launches with a girl/girl segment between Ginger Lynn and Amber Lynn (from Ginger On The Rocks). I wasn't crazy about starting off with a lesbian scene, but Ginger had to be first, and I wanted to keep all the scenes in chronological order of their production dates, at least according to the year, if I didn't know the exact month. I also didn't want to leave Ginger fans disappointed, so Scene Two is another Ginger segment - this time in a 5-way with Barbara Dare, Jamie Gillis, Joey Silvera, and Peter North (from Ginger & Spice). It was only after this volume came out that I heard from a few customers that this 5-way is rarely seen on Vivid compilations, so I was glad I could include it here.

I won't go over each and every scene in this release (we have a scene index and screenshots to cover that), but I will note some more of my favorites. There's a hot segment between the late Savannah and Peter North taken from On Trial, Part 1; a nice pairing between Nikki Dial and Rocco Siffredi taken from Sex 1; and the famous girl/girl pairing between Janine and Julia Ann from the first Blondage movie.

Of course, no Vivid compilation would be complete without a few Jenna Jameson scenes, and we give you three of them on this release: a threesome with Ashlyn Gere and Tom Byron from Photoplay; a girl/girl coupling from Exposure with Celeste; and her pairing with Rocco Siffredi from Jenna Loves Rocco.

All scenes are presented in the full-frame format (some scenes on Vol. 3 are letterboxed, but non-anamorphic), with 2.0 Dolby Digital sound. It's important for customers to note that we could only use footage already available on DVD, so if the source DVD had a poor transfer/grainy video, we were stuck using that footage again here. You'll note this most on Vol. 1, as the scenes are much older...but video quality definitely improves as the scenes/year of production used goes on throughout these volumes.

Each volume of these compilations contains a chapter selection, so you can quickly jump to the scene of your choice, and each scene provides the names of the performers and the movie it's taken from, should you be interested in finding out more about that film (or possibly want to purchase a copy).

So a lot of time and care went into these titles to make sure they'd be appealing to our customers. We wanted to provide the "ultimate" Vivid Girl comps for porn fans. It's now your call on how well we succeeded. Enjoy!
