Ah. Trying to Be Serious, Are They?
There was a time in the late 90s and early 00s where bigger budget porn studios would make features that were either comedies or dramas. The dramas would almost inevitably be filled with scenes of bad acting and guns and emotions that no actual humans have. I always preferred the comedies. Sugar Babies is trying to go the drama route, and I can't say it's all that comfortable, especially with its dramatically oversold subtitle, A Cautionary Tale. Stop that. We open with Penny Pax looking like she forgot to check the mail in a month or so. I'm guessing that these are overdue bills, but even with the volume absolutely maxed-something you really should never do with a porn film-I can't make out just what it is she's muttering. Penny opts to do what I remember doing when I had financial troubles: find something else to do. For her it's going hiking with her buddy Chanel Preston and her 9" eyelashes (possible hyperbole). Then they talk for a bit. So I decided to water my plants, straighten up a bit, start the dishes, and do some laundry. They're still talking. Umm, movie? Your plot isn't actually that interesting, just so you know. Though I give them credit for casting. Chanel in particular is rather good at delivering these kinds of lines. Then again, it's another 20 minutes before there's any actual sex. Fine in a mainstream film, but I'm pretty sure you're paying to see some stuff here. It's also perhaps a touch strange when they get there, with Chanel using a strap-on on Penny while taking it from James Deen herself. Then Penny has her face buried in Chanel's ass while taking a cock up her own. Which is fine and all, and I like the idea of these pieces, but it's more mechanical than sensual. They look like a flesh-coloured machine more than anything else. This leads right into the second scene with Penny, Jesse Jones, and Jaclyn Taylor. Frankly, this one was a turn-off. It just felt negative, was harshly filmed, and I wanted nothing to do with it. The third scene is girls-only, with Jade Nile and Rebel Lynn both being glamour girls for their phones. It all just felt a bit #immature. Meh. Then it's continued with Jade and Rebel bringing snake-mouthed Xander Corvus in for the fun. This is probably the scene you've been looking for, but it is also startlingly brief. I just don't know what Sugar Babies is trying to be. It claims to be cautionary, and it's careless with the dramatic. But overall, it seems like someone forgot to actually make a porn film while they were going for cleverness and marketing. That's kind of important, don't you think?
