Not The Wizard Of Oz XXX

This adult film is an adaptation that is surprisingly true to the source material. Paying homage in the right ways, while adding a hyper-sexual spin to the story. The actors and actresses did their best to represent this Golden Age of film, reflecting the voices and actions of the original cast. The male actors in particular (Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion) stand out when it comes to acting and the Wicked Witch and Emerald City Gatekeeper do a great job as well. The sex scenes are good, but seem to be phoned in in some cases - like green screen shown as the backdrop or odd transitions that break the flow of the movie, or the makeup that easily is rubbed off. The positions and sensualness are really great though! Also, I respect the inclusion of a little person in porn.

I watched The Wizard of Oz (1939) when I was a kid. It was good, but I never developed any sort of long-standing overwhelming affinity towards it. Consequently, you're getting Oz comparisons from a relative amateur here. Do with that information what you will.

X Play's Not the Wizard of Oz XXX (2013) is good - an interesting take on a classic text - but it's also not as epic as I was expecting or as seamless as many of X Play's other parodies.

Just like in the original film, Dorothy is swept from Kansas to Oz. The majority of the story then recounts her struggles to get home, all while meeting a series of interesting characters in a vivid land. But Porn Oz is a bit different than the 1930s version, complete with one horny Munchkin, a sex-vixen witch, and a strange sub-plot about hooking to save a farm.

Some notes...

Special Effects

Oz XXX starts out in a black-and-white wash and flips to color in Oz, then goes back to black-and-white when Dorothy gets home. It's cool.

The rest of the special effects are cool too, though in a camp-cool kind of way. You can see the seams in the folded sheets that create backdrop, there is a visible smoke bomb marking the arrival and departure of the Wicked Witch, and the transition stock shots of corn fields and forests are hilariously cut in. This may be a nod to effects in the original, and is thus enhancing authenticity, or it may just be budgetary ? either way, these sorts of things help camp up the film.

Horny Munchkins

God I was so conflicted about this...

Stella Marie stars as the one-and-only visible Munchkin in the film. (apparently the others scattered when Dorothy's house landed on the scene, which I can understand) In many ways, one could regard this as mortifying; but Stella did a great boy/girl scene with Eric John and offered some interesting commentary about her role during the BTS. The boundary breaking dimensions therein were refreshing... but then I really hated the "typecasting" elements and the box cover image that miniaturized Stella.

Round and round I went about this, conflicted.

(ps with the exception of the final Oz-Dorothy-Glenda tryst, which was decently randy, the rest of the sex in the film is on par - good, nothing too wild, etc)

The Pimp, other Dudes, Witches, and Dorothy

Regarding the pimp, this I was *not* conflicted about - ugh. I found this characterization tedious and unnecessary. Having a pimp in the story line was fine (it related to that whole hooking thing), but the way in which the character was played was extremely bothersome.

James Bartholet and Brandy Aniston were golden as the Cowardly Lion and the Wicked Witch of the West (respectively). Maddy's Dorothy was good, as was Anikka's Glenda. And at some point, we switched scarecrows...

Oz XXX is a musical, which was awesome and silly and fun. The singing performances were great, as was the film's score throughout.

This film was shot over 27 back-to-back hours, which sounds absolutely terrible for the director and crew, but they managed to make it all work. This factoid, which is revealed in the BTS, is an interesting note on the state of porn today regarding production expectations.

In sum, Oz XXX is just fine.

We enjoyed Oz XXX quite a bit. It was a fun ride and nothing like anything we have seen in porn before. My wife watched the entire movie and seeing Wizard of Oz getting the porn parody treatment was great. The 3 way with Dorothy, Emerald City doorman and
the Good Witch was exciting. Great costumes and the tornado was wild.
