Dream Quest

When Dream Quest was first released during the late summer of 2000, critics and fans alike were quick to jump on the bandwagon and praise this well-made movie, but few pointed out a huge flaw that was all too evident: a horrible film transfer that makes what might be the best effort ever made to bring porn into the mainstream an almost unwatchable affair. The shot-on-film transfer to DVD is extremely poor, and heavy grain and "dirt" and other problems with the picture are evident throughout the film. It's especially puzzling since Wicked Pictures is known for their great DVD transfers and presentations...I can only assume there was a problem with the original film stock that was used, a problem that (given the eight day limited shooting that this film had to be made in)could not be corrected due to time and budget limitations.

That being said, there is still no denying that Dream Quest is one of the best movies ever released from the adult industry, and shows how good something can be if a little time and money are invested in a project. When you look at the movie and realize it was all done (at least the shooting...I'm assuming the special effects took a bit longer) in eight days...it is all the more astounding that all the pieces fell into place.

For those of you familiar with my past reviews, I have made no secret that I have not been an enthusiastic supporter of the types of roles Jenna Jameson has played in previous performances. I always felt that someone who seems so nice and fun off camera was constantly being stuck in roles where she was vulgar, backstabbing and unappealing (see The Wicked One and Jenna's Revenge, just for a few examples). In Dream Quest,however, Ms. Jameson is given the role of a young innocent, and the result is perhaps her sexiest performance to date. Frankly, I don't think I've been more attracted to Jenna than I was while watching her in Dream Quest, and that is a credit both to her as an actress, and Brad Armstrong, the director, for making her character so appealing in this film.

I won't spend too much time in this review going over the plot of the movie, since it has been pointed out in many other reviews (including the ones here on our site), and most of you have probably seen the movie by now anyway. But for those of you who have not gotten the chance, or need a quick recap to refresh your memory, Dream Quest revolves around a young woman (played by Jenna) who wonders where all the fantasy has gone in romance and in her life. One night, a couple of fairies visit her, and take her off into a world of trolls and goblins, where she must rescue "Fantasy" from an evil (goblin?) king, played by Hershel Savage.

The plot is a little bit of "Alice In Wonderland", but it also reminded this reviewer a lot of the movie Labyrinth, in which Jennifer Connelly had to rescue a baby from the evil clutches of a goblin king played by David Bowie. In fact, it may not just be a coincidence that both the main characters in Labyrinth and the one in Dream Quest are named "Sarah". It's obvious that the Lucasfilm production from 1986 had a big influence on the plot of this film.

The bonus features on the Dream Quest DVD are some of the best you'll find on an adult disc, including a nice behind-the-scenes segment on the making of the film, which gives the average fan a good idea of how much work goes into these kind of productions and it's not all glamorous. There are also two bonus scenes that were cut from the final film, but available here as supplemental material. Deleted segments and a look at the making of the special effects are also neat bonuses on the disc, along with all of the other extras you would expect to find on a Wicked DVD.

Had it not been for the poor video quality, Dream Quest would unarguably be the DVD of 2000. As it stands however, it is still one of the best overall discs to be released in the past year, and it will no doubt continue to be (deservingly so) one of the best selling titles of 2001.

It's hard to find a good storyline in porn these days. After all, there's only so many ways to plant innuendos and seduction in between bone slapping sex scenes. So it becomes harder and harder to keep things fresh and interesting. Most studios have given plots the shaft altogether (pun intended). Of the remaining few who still dabble in plot lines and production value, Wicked has risen to the upper echelon, providing quality product consistently. It doesn't hurt having the hottest names in the biz at your disposal. What emerges is some of the steamiest, well-thought out features ever produced. Dream Quest is the latest, and stars the world-famous Jenna Jameson as Sarah?an average girl longing for romance and adventure to whisk her away from the small town doldrums. Well, her dreams come to life as Stephanie Swift and Felicia (who play heavenly faeries) come to take Jenna away on a quest to save Fantasy from the grips of the dastardly dubious Vladimir (played by Hershel Savage.

From the moment the first scene begins, it's apparent that Wicked had some big bucks to sink into this one. I could even swear the cast had acting lessons! It seams Jenna is stuck in a rut, aggravated by a pestering horny boyfriend named Steven (Devin Wolf). We're first introduced to them at the drive-in where Wolf gropes and claws at Jenna mercilessly. She's had enough and asks to go home where she ends the lackluster relationship. Enter the faerie-folk. Dazzling special effects are used to elevate the film solidly into "B" movie material. Jenna gives a convincing performance in this scene, giving the illusion life as Spring and Autumn (Swift and Felicia) burst into existence. They proceed to plead their case to the surprised Jenna, who in her weakened emotional state is eager to participate in the quest. Again high-tech effects are employed as Jenna jumps into the mirror that serves as a gateway to another world. By this point in the film, I actually didn't mind that no sex has taken place. I'm actually involved in the storyline. This is an extreme rarity in adult movies. In fact, I 'm hard-pressed to think of another storyline that rivals the level of Dream Quest. Anyway, Jenna is zapped into a cave where Arachna tests Jenna's resolve. She probes and feels her way along Jenna's sumptuous body, leaving no crevice untouched. The two get to know each other in the biblical sense, muff-diving, and fingering each other before Asia breaks off to play with the man caught in her web of desire (who happens to be Evan Stone). Jenna frigs herself silly as Asia drains her victim of his man juice. I guess Jenna passed her test.

As it turns out, there are many brave guardians to help Jenna on her way. The first is Octo (Randy Spears). It is from him that we learn of the faeries' plight to save Fantasy from Vladimir's clutches. Spears also delivers a command performance, saving Jenna from the evil candle girls (Johnni Black and Amber Michaels). Spears "delays" them while Jenna escapes into the forest. What a sacrifice. Spears nails these two beauties senseless before they snowball his load between them. Wow! Hot stuff! Meanwhile, Jenna is wandering through the forest looking for a clue.

Again the lovely faeries Swift and Felicia appear, this time to guide Jenna to a bridge where her next guardians will pick up the trail. But wait?they're early. What to do...what to do...well if you're three gorgeous porn stars, you fuck. And that's exactly what they do. This is girl-girl lovin' at its best. The action is slow and teasing. The girls admire each others' forms appreciating their finer attributes. After the daisy chain, Jenna meets the next group of faeries, Summer and Winter (Teri Starr and Inari Vachs). They're not with us long, however, as the gatekeeper (Brad Armstrong) needs a fee for passing him. The faeries waste no time devouring Armstrong in a heap on flesh. Blowjobs break the ice, and soon Vachs proves why she's so damn popular. This girl loves to suck cock! She slurps and squishes, jacks and swallows?priming Armstrong's rod for the able-bodied Starr. Armstrong fucks Starr hard, making her scream with delight. Vachs finally jumps in, taking Armstrong in the ass for the sake of the quest.

Jenna is off on the gatekeeper's horse, frantically trying to find the castle. She meets Kronge (Randy Spears), a troll, while bathing in a pond. He gives her a key and her next instructions?follow the path, insert the key, and open the door. After some difficulty, Finnigan the Troll (Anthony Crane) tells Jenna that all she has to do to get to the castle is go to the bridge, and turn three times. Well, actually it takes Jenna to Tundra's domain (played by Alexa), where she seduces Jenna into another lesbo love fest, complete with a double penetration of Jenna with two clear dildos.

She finally makes it to the castle only to be captured by Vladimir because she won't fuck him. So he deceives her into thinking he's her boyfriend Steven come to rescue her. Finally, Jenna gets some real meat, and she doesn't disappoint! He rams her in the prison cell, splashing her with his load on her Barbie doll face. I won't give away the ending, but I will say that it is a "faerie tale" ending.

The transfer to digital is flawless thus making the film look and sound as good as any big budget Hollywood release. As with most of Jenna's releases, the utmost care has been taken to assure that the special features are among the finest available. The cast biographies are in depth audio accounts of the stars' milestones and other informative goodies. The special features themselves are grouped together and let me tell you, there are a lot of them. Everything from Behind the Scenes footage to an audio documentary on how the special effects were created. Now that's pretty cool! Armstrong himself explains some of the movies' effects such as the morphing of Jenna or Vladimir's castle in detail. Deleted scenes are shown, adding to the storyline, and finally the two scorching bonus sex scenes were a welcome edition to this loaded DVD. Alexa takes on a knight with a gleaming sword, doing her best sword-swallowing act before bending over to take his wrath via a good doggie style pounding. She's rewarded for her valor with a nice sloppy facial. In the other bonus scene, Wicked beauty Temptress and raven-haired Sydnee Steele tackle Armstrong and Dale Dabone in an exhilarating foursome. Steele takes it in the ass as the two cock hungry babes work their men into a cum splashing fury. All in all the special features on this DVD alone are worth the cost of admission. This is the definitive adult DVD of 2000.

I guess I had too high of expectations, since it won all kinds of awards, but I was slightly disappointed with this feature. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't tell anybody not to see it, it was good... just not great. The plot was great, the acting was good, the scenes, character, and costumes were very original and lifelike, but the sex was only average. Jenna was amazing and looks incredible as usual, but the sex was predictable and not that hot. With a little lower expectations, I think you will enjoy this.

Great movie. Cannot ask for much more. Definitely a high-budget looking film.

The film actually had a palatable plot, with amazing costumes, props, scenery and beautiful men and women. The problem is was that the sex appeared very staged and passionless. Had the actors and director been able to inject real emotion and desire into the film it would have shot up to "4" or "5" stars. The rest of the movie was great and I hope a trend for future porn flicks.

This movie is overrated. This DVD had stayed in storage. Neither my wife or I found it interesting or arousing enough.

On the other hand, it has some nice scenes, and Jenna Jameson is hot!

This is by far one of the best films I've seen yet! A great cast, and awesome behind the scenes footage. This is a must-have for Jenna fans and adult film fans!

This was the first Jenna flick that I have ever seen, and she is something to be desired. The film is great, and the costumes and atmosphere really helped. This is a good one to own...it is one that you can watch over and over again, and still get aroused!

It a word....WOW! I have never seen Jenna look so beautiful. The sets and costumes are amazing, the sex is incredible and the features on this disc are unreal. Wicked has gone all out on this one. It took me all day to get through all of the features on Dream Quest. I really liked the special effect composites, behind the scenes video, and 2 bonus sex scenes. I said it before and I'll say it again...WOW.

The movie is everything you'd expect from a big-budget Wicked feature - elaborate sets, sexy costumes, and credible acting. The sex leans towards couples on the couples to raincoater scale, but is too blowjob-centric to fit the couples label. The extras are simply outstanding. The behind the scenes is an excellent day by day documentary of the shooting with tons of candid footage. I think I may even have enjoyed the extras more than the movie.

Dream Quest is a very good film. The talent, costumes, sets, and of course the sex, are all top notch! I had a large problem with the video quality though. Other Wicked DVDs I've purchased have been great. This one looks just slightly better than a movie that's been playing at the theater too long. A bit too grainy and quite a bit of those annoying pops and flashes of white spots.
