New Wave Hookers 5

"New Wave Hookers 5" is another Michael Ninn classic, opening with a grotesque Ron Jeremy in black face (later we see a number of white guys dressed up as Japanese businessmen). The credits work like a trailer, with clips from the sex scenes to come editing in an MTV style and with a funky 70s soundtrack. All in all, a very hot film. The plot is wacky, about a pimp who attracts women easily, but it really just a utopian fantasy about prostitution form the pimp's point of view - the tricks always have cash, so he's supplied, and the tricks never have diseases, so the merchandise is always in good shape. There is lots of lesbian action and an incredible ten scenes.

There are two standout scenes that are worth the price of the DVD.

The best is the fifth scene with Nikita who, oddly, is not credited on the cover, Lea Martini, and a guy dressed as a clown. Martini gives her characteristically lewd looks to the camera as she licks Vicca's pussy and sucks the guy's cock. And Martini also takes it up the ass enthusiastically like a typical Euro-slut. She luxuriates as she sucks the guy's cock after she cums. And Nikita is a total scorcher. What a beautiful young woman! This is a really good scene. It's so long it's almost a movie in itself.

The other great scene is the third one, in which Jeanna Fine talks dirty as only she can while Anna Malle takes it up the ass from Sean Michaels. This is a hot lesbian scene with the guy as boy toy. There's good cocksucking at the beginning of Michaels' very big cock, though I am not into women spitting on cocks. If you like either girl, get this DVD for this scene. Malle is really into it.

The first scene is a three-way lesbian with Vicca, Asia Carrera, and Juli Ashton. Carerra and Thomas sport a cop fetish uniforms complete with black thigh high boots, and Ashton looks very hot in a white garter and stockings. There is lots of fake moaning, but who cares.

The second scene involves lesbian masturbation by a woman who looks like she came out of "Beyond Thunderdome" or "Tank Girl". It doesn't last very long and is pretty much filler.

The fourth scene is another lesbian number with Thomas, Malle, and Fine. Malle and Fine wear fetish nurse outfits and Thomas has a nice outfit, complete with black and white mink. This scene is a little to clinical and fetish-like for my tastes, especially when silver tools are used to pull apart Sunset's labia as a silver dildo is inserted. But most of the scene is nice to watch. Guess I was never into playing doctor this literally. Fine does give so more good dirty talk, this time addressed to Thomas.

The sixth scene is with Vicca as some kind of scientific creation called Que X. (The whole movie plot is impossible to follow, but that hardly matters.) She takes on three "Japanese" businessmen. She does some good cocksucking and takes a nice anal pounding as well.

All this would be more than enough for most porn DVDs. But wait! There's more! In the seventh scene, Jamie Gillis commands Sindee Coxx as she masturbates with a dildo wearing a white satin bra, panties, garter, and stockings. A little too sadistic and "sick" for me, but she is great.

The eighth scene is with Stacy Valentine as she takes on two guys. This is not the best scene I've ever seen, but that is due to the editing and lighting more than to her performance, which is typically good.

The ninth scene is another three-way, this time with Juli Ashton taking on two guys. Again, she wears the white garters and stockings. I am not a great Ashton fan-she just doesn't really turn me on-but she certainly does perform well here, especially the anal part.

The final scene has Jeanna Fine taking on three guys. They all stand while she kneels. Not a long scene, and they all cum in her face (The cum looks pretty fake.) The nice thing is that the cumshots are repeated over and over. Pretty cool.

If you like high quality hot porn with great looking women, I'd get this DVD. The only drawback for some people is that condoms are used throughout.

The DVD has the high quality one expects from VCA. The image quality is great. There are chapter stops for each scene. There are no extras to speak of.

First of all, it should be noted that NEW WAVE HOOKERS 5 is yet again another exceptionally produced DVD by the good people at VCA. The image, taken from a video source but given a film-like texture, is clear throughout with no significant artifacts or digital distortions that I could detect. The flourescent colors are crisp and bright and the computer-generated set designs (clearly derived from LATEX and SHOCK) look great. The blend of an industrial atmosphere meshes surprisingly well with a contrasting cartoony foreground of characters, including top X-rated talent like Juli Ashton, Vicca, Felicia, Asia Carrera, Stacy Valentine, Jeanna Fine and others. With all these ingredients, what we should be getting on this DVD is the best NEW WAVE HOOKERS film ever released. Alas, under the direction of Michael Ninn, NWHV ends up being the most disappointing of the series, and fails to to live up to its legendary predecessors.

Director Michael Ninn is certainly one of the best directors in adult films. Infuenced by the works of Andrew Blake, his works are simply stunning to look while maintaining a high erotic content. His DIVA series has probably the best solo masturbation and lesbian scenes I have ever witnessed, and DECADENCE is a terrific movie with my favorite Vicca guy-girl scene ever. But in taking over the newest HOOKERS movie, Michael Ninn is to live up to the standard of weirdness and raunch set by the Dark Bros and their classic films...he clearly is not up to the task.

In his body of work for VCA Pictures, director Gregory Dark combined decidedly anti-PC characters in Mardi Gras-like costumes having hot, energetic sex in all sorts of weird places. Although his flagrant use of racial stereotypes were questionable, it was such obvious satire that offense could hardly be taken. In a Dark Bros movie, every character on screen was treated with an off the wall eccentricity. More importantly, they never allowed their novel ideas and concepts to interfere with the sex, which was always hot and heavy. Witness Tianna attacking Heather Lere with complete sexual abandon while inside an actual dumpster, in his classic video BETWEEN THE CHEEKS 2. Despite the disgusting setting of authentic garbage and junk, the novelty never gets in the way of their incredibly erotic session together. The same holds true for the any scene directed by Gregory Dark in NEW WAVE HOOKERS 1 through 4, which were probably the strangest porno movies I have ever viewed, but they also presented some of the most memorably exciting scenes ever filmed.

Unfortunately, in its strive for creativity, NEW WAVE HOOKERS 5 too often unnecessary special effects and distracting costumes into the movie's forefront, and it ends up upstaging the main action. This is all-too apparent during the last third of the movie, which focuses on one of my favorite actresses currently working in porn: Vicca. The end result is a lop-sided imitation of the Dark Bros works: we get all the stylish glitter, but very little of the raunchy substance. On the plus side, this film earns high marks for the frequent use of threesomes in the majority of its ten sex scenes (although some of the menage-a-trois scenes have two actors too many).

Things start off well-enough with an girl tryst featuring Juli Ashton, Asia Carrera, and Felicia in an elevator. All three women look sexy as hell, and thankfully, on-looker Jamie Gillis stays his respectful physical distance from this great lesbian session. I'm not sure whether Mr. Ninn should be praised or criticized for not taking clear advantage of the obvious ethnic make-up of Asia and Felecia as a source of Dark Bros-inspired parody; but rest assured, the director commits his crimes of ridiculousness later on in the film. The next best scene, involving another three-way with Jeanna Fine, Anna Malle and some masked guy is also very well-done and surprisingly satisfying to me, despite the fact that neither of these actresses have ever been favorites of mine (despite Ms. Fine's considerable deep-throating talents and Anna Malle's crazed enthusiasm).

But after this point in the film, Michael Ninn seems to lose confidence in the sexual talents of his actors and actresses and goes overboard on computer effects and novelty. The last scene is a perfect example of artistic license gone awry, where we are given three duplicate images of Peter North being fellated by Vicca for the film's grand finale. This sequence is actually more amusing than erotic, and the use of this rather silly special effect diminishes the overall intensity of the scene. I cannot recall where I have seen Vicca teamed up with the Actor Formerly Known As Matt Ramsey before, but this encounter ended up as being sorely disappointing.

Throughout the movie, Mr. Ninn employs Ron Jeremy in blackface makeup as a 1970's-style pimp, and, inexplicably, gives him free reign to ham it up before the cameras. The always obnoxious Hedgehog engages in an embarassingly unfunny shuck-and-jive schtick, with desperately obvious attempts to incorporate Jim Carrey's performance from THE MASK (including the unoriginal use of a computer-generated elongated tongue and Tazmanian Devil-like animation movements). I can only assume that his intrusive role in a video feature of this caliber must have been intended to torture the viewer into submssion so as to endure the rest of this problematic movie...what other reason could there possibly be?

But even more offensive is the appallingly misguided use of Japanese caricatures (complete with fake buck teeth, horn-rimmed glasses with painted slanted eyes, and flashing cameras) in what could have been a great mini-gangbang with the stunning Vicca. Now, I am the last person in this cruel, cruel world to expect cultural sensitivity and political correctness from pornographers, but this film went a little too far with the stereotypes, and this very segment went on far too long. In fact, this scene was so erotically uninvolving, that I ended up pondering the social mores and hostile work environment of a porno shoot: such as if Asia Carrera observed the filming of this scene and felt insulted by the unflattering portrayal of her Japanese ancestry; or if Vicca, as a recent immigrant herself, felt that participating in the scene made her somewhat complicit in promoting offensive ethnic sterotypes. (Whenever a porno movie inspires its audience into thinking more about politics than sex, it's a bad sign). In any event, Vicca tries to some generate sexual heat in this absurdity, with her enthusiastic sucking and fucking prowess. However, even her valiant efforts are thwarted by the boring spectacle of her racist sex partners in crime, which includes the director. At least the Dark Bros would have put some irony in the situation (as they did with Willie the Pimp from the first two HOOKERS movies), thus reducing the racially-stereotyped portrayal. Here, Mr. Ninn confuses parody with poor taste and ends up ruining all of Vicca's "hard" work.

Elsewhere on this multi-chaptered DVD, potentially great scenes are reduced to near forgettability by Ninn's questionable "vision." Juli Ashton is to endure a three-way with two guys: a dark-haired skinny dude who could not possibly be more un-photogenic (his natural looks are almost as horrific as the aforementioned Asian stereotypes) and another paunchy, balding guy in desperate need of retirement so as to remove him from the porno workforce (again, the movie falters by allowing politics to enter the viewer's mind). But this scene pays off with a very good facial, that almost makes up for what had to be a nightmarish experience for the lovely Ms. Ashton. As for the rest of the movie, I enjoyed the threesome featuring sexy "Barbie Doll cum to life" Stacy Valentine, but was distracted to the point of annoyance by an earlier girl-girl-guy scene involving Lea, Nikita and...a clown. For some reason, Mr. Ninn feels compelled to focus his camera repeatedly on the clown's grotesque face, even though all the best action is going on farther down below. Call me a square, but I'd rather not have the garish visage of Bozo or Krusty intruding on my "having-sex-with-two-girls-at-the-same-time" fantasies (especially when video is all I have to fulfill them).

Of all the recent films Michael Ninn has directed, this certainly is one of his most disappointing. If this movie was released as a second sequel to LATEX, or even to SEX (which is an absolute must-buy on DVD, since both parts one and two are placed on a single disc), I might have found it somewhat acceptable. But as a follow-up to the high-profile NEW WAVE HOOKERS series, number five fails to meet up its predecessors.

The packaging of this DVD is eye-catchingly colorful and well-composed, with alluringly sexy pictures of Stacy Valentine, Vicca and Juli Ashton adorning the cover. It should be noted that the attractive "boxcover" design of this fourth sequel stands out in sharp contrast to the striking, understated elegance of previous NEW WAVE HOOKERS videos, which feature a single model posing seductively in a tight outfit and high heels (in particular, Savannah looks spectacularly gorgeous on the cover of number two). Everything else about the DVD (sound, picture, still photos and actress profiles) is simply great, even if the film itself is not.

In the end, this release just makes me more anxious for the DVD editions of NEW WAVE HOOKERS 3 and 4. As for this sequel by Michael Ninn...better luck next time.

multi-faceted hallucinatory extravaganza from Michael Ninn.

Commentary: My last review was of Gregory Dark's Flesh and it got me thinking about how fortunate the adult film industry
is to have two directors like Gregory Dark and Michael Ninn so active in the field. Each produces exceptionally high quality
and challenging works, yet each has a very different approach to film making. Where Mr. Dark's films and their portrayal of sex
are very visceral and raw, Mr. Ninn's flicks are just the opposite, highly stylized and cerebral with the sex awash in pretty
images and snappy music video style editing. Both directors add high quality original music to help carry along their films and
both have helped to elevate the fine art of adult film making.
New Wave Hookers 5 showcases the style of Director Michael Ninn. It would be very hard to describe all the ambitious
sets and special effects that are thrown at you during this flick. So, for the most part, I will bypass that aspect of the film in this
commentary with the understanding that it is those very features that make this film standout from the crowd.
The first sex scene showcases Asia Carrera and Felecia in an all girl 3 way. Add some throbbing music and some throbbing
dildos and you have a fairly hot and exotic segment. Next is a strange transition segment that features Sindee, Kim, Ashley and
Roxanne in a scene that is, at it's heart, a XXX rated music video. Imagine these exotically clad stars riding up and down on
equally exotic dildos, imagine a factory like setting, imagine quick edits and strange angles, good music, no dialogue, no moans
and no groans. Sound like a music video? Not on TV perhaps, but hey, isn't that why you bought a DVD player.
As the plot proceeds and we learn about the Psycho Image Transfer Machine, we see our first images projected on the
virtual screen. And on the screen...2 nurses (Jeanna Fine and Anna Malle) get it on with an extremely pumped up Sean
Michaels. Some moments highlight how the lack of a gag reflex aids in providing good head to a huge black cock. Some
moments highlight how ass splitting anal sex can be. Add them together and you get one ass kicking scene. When this party's
over, the accident with the virtual reality machine occurs and the virtual world is overlaid with ours. Ron Jeremy (in a no sex
role, whew!) as Mr. Silky Smooth enters the flick as a virtual pimp. He reappears on and off throughout the rest of the feature
in an often comical and sometimes cartoonish (literally) performance. Sunset Thomas is a virtual girl that crosses over with him.
As the first virtual girl, she requires an examination. Watch close as medical clamps pull apart her nether lips to allow for entry
of a chrome probe. You just might feel her pain. You'll feel it even more as some chrome anal beads join the mix. Then it's time
for some DCPP (Double Chrome Probe Penetration) as Sunset opens herself totally.
A long cartoonish sequence follows that literally uses cartoon images mixed with the flesh and humans before we fade
to our next sex scene. This one features Lea and Nikita and a Clown. Yes, a clown. In costume. Nose and all. This clown likes
anal sex, so do Lea and Nikita. So will you after watching the clown banger gang bang the girls.
Much more plot and many more sex scenes follow. Vicca plays the perfect New Wave Hooker as she takes on 3 pseudo
Japanese tourists. First she eats their egg rolls then gives up her lo mein. More 3 ways follow before we get to a segment which
features two very non-traditional dudes and Juli Ashton. These guys are not your typical porn stars. They must be over 60
years old and not in the best of shape. It doesn't seem to bother Juli and the guys must be living proof of the powers of Viagra
as they pound away with the spirit of guys half their age. The flick closes out with Triple Mega Splashers. That would be 3
versions of Peter North, all letting loose with gallons of goo. Mega splashing the receptive face of a New Wave Hooker.
All in all, another rousing epic from Michael Ninn. Very good sex. Great music and camerawork. And it's different than
most. It's the New Wave.

From a DVD perspective: Superior images throughout the DVD. Possibly the best sound I've heard on a DVD yet. Excellent
stereo and great music choices. There's some biographical information on 4 of the stars as well as a photo show from the flick.
At 2 hours long, this clocks in longer than most DVD flicks.

Intangibles: Great sets and a different take on what adult films can be earn this an extra star. The fear that it might not hold up
under repeat viewing is the reason it doesn't get the ruler.

Michael Ninn does justice to the famous Dark Bros. series. This DVD is approximately two hours, and technically has ten scenes.

1) We start of with Ashton, Feleica and Asia having a little girls only fun.

2) Next is a fairly weird montage of several ladies in old school pilots caps, masturbating on dildo topped poles.

3) I can forgive the previous scene because this next one is a classic. Jeanna Fine instructs Anna Malle in the oral and anal arts, and who could be a finer teacher than the master of the blowjob? This really is a fantastic scene, and both of these ladies engage in some of the most serious deep throating I have seen - then proceed to take an anal pounding.

4) These nurses are not done yet. After using Mr. Marcus as a teaching aid, Sunset Thomas is up next. She is subjected to a fair bit of probing.

5) Send in the clowns! Nikita and Kim Kataine engage in some good old clown sex. Despite the clowns, I really enjoyed this scene, thanks to a fine performance from Kim.

6) Personally, I am not the biggest fan of scenes that involve more men than women, but Vicca does such an impressive job of handling these three guys, I have nothing but praise for her in this scene. (This is also one of her few anal scenes.)

7) This scene didn't really do much for me. I believe it stars Sharon Kane, who seems a little old but is not bad looking. The scene is mainly dildo play.

8) Stacy Valentine exhibits her ability to generate sexual heat as she sweats through a blistering two-on-one.

9) Ashton gets nailed by two old guys. She is great, but I can't say I needed to see the old guys!

10) Finally, we see "the Loadman cometh" all in slow-motion, and all over Vicca in a nice little blowjob scene.

This film was a little weird, even for me - but despite some of the strange stuff, I really loved five of the the scenes and five great scenes is way more than most DVDs have.

Certainly an above-average film, though the plot was mostly nonsensical. There are some nice sex scenes but the obvious repetition of footage in each scene is irritating. Scenes go on and on with what seems like endless shots of the same thing. Yeah, the Asian caricatures (mentioned in an earlier review) are pretty stupid and offensive, as is Ron Jeremy in blackface doing a cartoon pimp. Great special effects and production design.

VCA does it again: First it was "Shock", then it
was "Cafe Flesh 2", now it's "New Wave Hookers 5".
This one is classic Michael Ninn. It's nothing
compared to Greg Dark's previous NWH4 (but it's
just as great). If you enjoyed "Shock" and CF2,
NWH5 is for you.

The story goes like this: I have no clue. Ninn
takes us into the surreal and the action is so
hot, you won't be following whatever story there
is. If anyone can outline the story, please do
so here.

Here's a breakdown of the ten sex scenes:

9. Strange MFM with Juli Ashton doing two "older"
men (one looks like he's in his 50s, the other
like he's older than that); kinda gross, but
that's just me, and
10. Vicca taking on three Peter North's.

There's everything in this: Oral, anal, DP,
group, toys... If you like just watching people
have sex in bedrooms, skip this one.

Ninn uses his trademark flashy sequences to make
it look like an ambitious story, but it's not.
What IS ambitious is the FX and the art direction.
Those should win awards, hands down. There are
even letterboxed sequences with subtitles (pseudo,
of course, for effect)! Our "host" is like Jim
Carrey's The Mask where he has a painted face and
spins around like a madman (played by Ron Jeremy).

This is much more entertaining than some of the
so-called adult entertainment on DVD and this is
a must-see/own DVD. The sound is excellent in
Dolby Digital 2.0 or Dolby Surround. The picture
quality is unlike any other adult DVD I've seen.
You'll think you're right in the movie! Crystal
sharp!

Features are slim, but the menus are unique: each
chapter has a short scene from it, there is music
in the background, and there are previews (which
are quite lengthy) for three other VCA DVDs (L.A.
Fashion Girls, Cafe Flesh 2, and Diva 4).
