Newbie porn reminiscent of a bygone era.

By Anton Deztini
While growing up in the 80's, I was fascinated by all things "film". Consequently, sooner or later, I was bound to happen upon "porn" films - in some capacity. Indeed I did. Also being entertained by all genres of film; cheesy B-movies, drama, comedy, sci-fi (you get the picture), I believe I was quite open-minded. However, that "openness" came to an abrupt halt upon the few occasions my brain absorbed 80's porno tapes.

Okay... so what's this have to do with Barely Legal #11? Here's the point of the brief look at my past - 80's porn was, quite frankly, awful. The 90's actually brought interest back to me because "it" changed dramatically. But... every once in a while a porn flick comes out that pays an unpleasant homage to the time of "locker room settings, tennis shorts, polo-style shirts and the phrase "I've got something for you to polish, baby." Here lies 80's porn, in the form of Barely Legal #11, may it rest in peace.

Knowing all well just how popular the whole Barely Legal series is, I'm still going no-holds-barred here. Hustler Video, a company whose product I generally admire, has ventured down an unappealing road with this particular release. Yes... there are most certainly some very unique and eye-popping characteristics in BL #11. Yet, it's hard to ignore the horror of terribly written dialogue, equally terrible delivery and unconvincing acting - both dramatically and sexually. Sure some consumers are solely interested in the sex, dialogue is just interference. I can respect that. Again though, the sex was simply unimpressive as a whole. Some instances of above-average entanglements do exist in this feature, but not enough to warrant honest praise for the film's entirety.

Interactivity being one of the major advances over VHS, systematically I study the 'extras' of each DVD title -first. Though limited in that arena, Barely Legal #11 does offer a profile of director Clive McLean. A photographer by trade, Clive made the jump to video by hopping on board the porn train via Hustler Video. This behind-the-scenes slash biography session appeared to validate a sincere attention to detail on his part. With very frank and unreserved commentary, Clive gives viewers a brief look into his mindset regarding the 'art" of capturing moments. Well... then I study this project. Indeed the camera angles were pleasantly varied and the transitions fairly smooth. But details involve more than just the photography!

The main content breakdown:

Five short scripted stories, each involving two players, carry out a theme of "lost" female being ultimately led to sexual bliss. Stories like "Jake's Garage", "Third Floor Fuck" and "Fireman's Knob" each combine the talents of a seasoned male and a newbie female. The only exception to this formula is "Massage Mayhem", a lesbian tryst starring Destiny and Terri Summers. In this case, two very beautiful newbies provide a well-performed girl/girl fuck show. This one was almost certainly the best chapter, and that's coming from a guy who generally finds lesbian scenes unimpressive.

The elements most noteworthy include; some ethnic diversity, fair anal display and three separate incidents of actual "pee" shots. The pissing is eye-opening, but the heat fizzles upon examination of the participating girl's body language. In other words, as interesting as the scenes are - one can easily see that none of these girls felt extremely relaxed and comfortable. Though corny from beginning to end, chapter five's finale earns due mention with Alec Metro's Uzi-like blasts of semen onto Brittany Blue's face.

More regarding the cast? I suppose "tolerable" best describes the cast, based on appearance. Again, with the exception of Destiny and Terri who are hardbodied beauties. Acting, as stated earlier, was downright bad. As for convincing sex... through most of the film the sex was uninspiring and over-choreographed.

Back to the 'extras', aside from the director profile, users can view a photo-gallery, access the Hustler website and choose individual chapters from the motion index. The main menu is graphically and musically attractive, but the soundtrack throughout the film's body is overbearing thus making the trite dialogue even more inaudible at certain points.

Basing my final judgment on Barely Legal #11 as its own entity and not comparing it to other inclusions to the series, potential audiences may include those interested in "young and fresh" women, the "pee" shot shock affect or those who may have reveled in 80's style porn. Of course, that is, if you can successfully trudge through the many "glitches".
