I'm not sure if this is was Jules first time working with Lex, but it certainly shows why they've teamed up several times since then.

Alexandra Nice starts things off in a great scene that actually starts out as a less than innocent interview. When the questioning finally gets down to Lex's legendary size, a hands-on demonstration proves to be quite informative and fulfilling. Fortunately, Alexandra doesn't draw the line at simply handling Lex's 11-inch shaft; she immediately pops it into her mouth in a fruitless but valiant attempt to swallow it. Although the video is occasionally over or underexposed, the digital transfer is extremely crisp throughout the whole feature. The audio track sounds good too, featuring a subtle music track that plays through the scenes. I usually don't like music in gonzo productions, but it works pretty well here and never masks or competes with the natural sounds. Gonzo titles are traditionally short in the extras category, but this one has a few trailers, a photo gallery, and a nice behind the scenes featurette that runs for about 18 minutes. The featurette is more like a raw compilation extra footage comprised of shots that weren't used in the final cut for one reason or another. Still it's still a nice addition.

So, are Jules and Lex the next Buttman and Rocco? They've got a ways to go, but time will tell. Heavy Metal is a great anal themed gonzo selection with a wonderful cast and some creative camera work. However, the title is a bit too structured and lacks the pure spontaneity of a gonzo classic. The car ride segment in Adriana's scene was nice, but the other scenes could have benefited from something similar. Despite this complaint, Heavy Metal is a great movie and DVD. I impatiently await the sequel's release.

The design and production of LEXINGTON STEELE'S HEAVY METAL closely resembles the type of gonzo production one associates with Anabolic features. In fact, after viewing this five-scene, all-anal collection of his work, I did a double-take and wondered if Rosebud Video had any connection with Anabolic...but nope, this is an original title from a longtime studio which has just recently been offering their product onto the DVD medium. Based on HEAVY METAL, it looks like they're in for a long and prosperous future....

For those who may not know, Lexington Steele is one of the newest porn studs to brandish his sword for the cameras. Although the picture quality is generally very good, there are technical moments where the camera or lighting could have been set up better (making use of the white balance on the camera would have been a good idea), but that is a problem with the production, not the DVD. Audio is also up to par, as we are able to hear all the natural sounds of sex amidst the rocking beat of the soundtrack. As for extras, we get some footage from a few titles in the Rosebud library, as well as the predictable Photo Gallery and some badly produced phone sex and internet advertisements (some of these ads feature video clips of transvestites and transsexuals at work, so consider yourself warned). The Behind The Scenes featurette is mainly composed of some edited moments from the finished product, with women like Leanni Lei cracking up during the action, or Taylor anxiously awaiting her turn at Lex. The segment runs almost twenty minutes, and is a nice touch to the feature presentation.

While HEAVY METAL isn't the best gonzo video I have ever seen, it still rocks and rolls thanks to ladies like Taylor St. Clair and Alexandra Nice.
