Whispers

Nic Andrews pays uncredited homage to Andrew Blake in his well-made feature, WHISPERS. Starring Jewel De' Nyle, this movie looks like it was shot on high quality video, although the occasional letterboxed images and meticulous give it the look of film. I happen to enjoy what many fans term as "glamour porn" (i.e., vignettes which rely on high fashion and style along with the hardcore) so this title was right up my alley. It's not nearly as graphic as your average video from Anabolic, nor does it break any taboos, or even new ground for that matter. Nic Andrews' emphasis is on beauty and composition, so raincoater should look elsewhere.

As stated from the outset, there are distinct similarities between this movie and an Andrew Blake production, specifically, his 1990 classic SECRETS. Once you are introduced to Jewel De'Nyle reclining in the back of a limousine as it drives through Beverly Hills, you may be reminded of similar moments from SECRETS, starring Ashlyn Gere. I don't mean to draw too many comparisons between the two films, but even the premise of WHISPERS, centered around a high priced LA escort service and narrated by the sexy Madam, is the exact same storyline found in SECRETS. Hell, even the titles for both movies have that mysterious, high concept sound to them. Since you can't copyright ideas, I guess that there's nothing really wrong with this duplicate set-up, but one has to imagine that Andrews is at least familiar with Blake's work and might have mentioned his inspiration. (Then again, it could all be a coincidence.)

Well, whatever. I have to admit that comparisons aside, WHISPERS is an excellent movie and now occupies a space in my embarrassingly large adult DVD collection. But if you need convincing, here is a quick breakdown of most of the vignettes:

The opening scene with Rayveness and Todd Alexander is excellent, and she has never looked better than in this movie. It has that distinct couples appeal, with plenty of foreplay and lots of affection. The ending oral cumshot, however, fades away just a bit too quickly. After a few intermission moments with Jewel masturbating in the back seat of her limo, we come to Sydnee Steele's scene, which the director admits is his favorite. She dominates Alec Metro in submissive bondage segment which is superb, with Sydnee getting fucked in every position she can assume. In particular, the doggy anal scene is highly repeatable, and one of her best. The accompanying commentary by Nic, Evan Stone (who isn't in the movie, but watches it along with everyone else) and Sydnee herself, also adds to the carnal moments.

The very large busted Sana Fey gets all slippery and wet in a hot tub with Brick Majors, which might have been the best scene of the film had Sydnee's not preceded it. As pointed out in the commentary, Sana even swallows some of his load. Immediately afterwards, we switch to a girl-girl scene with Jewel and Delaney Daniels, hot blonde beauty who seems to really enjoy getting a finger up her ass. The director then takes advantage of the blonde bombshell look of Brittany Andrews, who gets thoroughly fucked by Eric Price. Watch out for the fluid which shoots from her twat after Eric pulls out of her and spills his nut juice all over her chest. The unintentional squirting by Ms. Andrews is something the director missed the first time he edited the film. (I'm not sure whether this is the all elusive, mythical G-Spot claimed by most women, but it's something amusing to talk about.)

Rebecca Lord then appears, looking gorgeous as ever, and it's a true joy to watch her under strut and pout like a fashion model under Andrews' direction. Unfortunately, she is paired with Sharon Mitchell (now known as "Miss" Sharon Mitchell) who doesn't look nearly as fresh and as beautiful as "Ms" Lord. Their lesbian scene together is therefore not nearly as eye-catching as it could be despite the energy together.

Chelsea Blue, who I first saw in Andrew Blake's DECADENCE, is yet another visual treat in this movie who adds eye-candy to a hot encounter between Jewel and Michael Mateo. Watching this scene, you'll find yourself mesmerized between watching Chelsea in sensuous solo action, or seeing Jewel pounded to orgasmic ecstasy. Great stuff, Maynard.

The final scene focuses on Alexa Rae, an incredible beauty (so what else is new?) who now appears in many Wicked titles under the simpler name of Alexa. She is teamed with Evan Stone, who is obviously thrilled to death over the opportunity to boink this sexy brunette. The film ends as it started, in the back of a limousine with Devinn Lane seducing Jewel. Their lesbian scene is terrific, and a great way to end the movie.

Video and audio quality is superb; I could detect no significant artifacts or defects in either picture or sound. Although the extras are limited to a photo gallery, and a trailer, the entire package is a class act and enhances the movie considerably. And again, let me just emphasize that the commentaries are one of the most informed and enjoyable I've ever heard, whether in porn or in mainstream. Director Andrews even points out continuity errors in his film, and gives proper credits to his technicians and actors. (He even sounds like a nice guy!)

WHISPERS is glamorous adult movie making at its best.
