As the fifth volume in Pirate's Fetish Machine series, Sex in a Frame teeters somewhere between narrative and vignette porn with an emphasis on foot play. The story involves a couple (Mandy Bright and her boyfriend) who get locked in a art gallery after it closes. Accompanied by a couple of security guards they leisurely gaze into the empty frames, initiating vivid fantasy sequences. The whole art gallery aspect is a mere transition device to link the different scenes. Although it's not entirely necessary, the effort is appreciated.

Things start off immediately in "Hot Roses" as Patricia and a guy (with a really big dick) fondle each other while dressed like 18th Century French aristocrats, complete with powdered wigs. There's some interesting foot play here as well. The guy even uses her high heels to stroke himself. Patricia eventually goes down on him and then mounts him in a reverse cowgirl. Private's Pirate DVDs are always sleek looking and this one continues that trend with impressive animated menus. The video is presented in a widescreen format and was shot with some sort of filter to soften the lighting. For the most part the picture looks good, but the filter causes some problems with the transfer resulting in a slightly grainy image. The audio (offered in stereo) is well-mixed and presented in a crisp format. There are parts that sound like they were dubbed, but the sex scenes seem to be presented with the original audio. There are a number of extras including a six minute report featurette, production notes, cast bios, photo book and the trailer.

Kovi has turned out a number of great features for Private, but his work here makes me feel the Pirate line is best left in the hands of Tanya Hyde and Frank Thring. Despite the impressive costuming and high production values, there seemed to be a lack of variation in the scenes. All of the girls look so similar with their strange glitter make-up resembling glam-rock refugees from the Ziggy Stardust era. I realize this is a fetish title, but all the foot play got a little old, too. Furthermore, the title lacked the overall edge seen in other Pirate titles. Sure, there's plenty of good hardcore, but nothing to really set it apart from the pack...unless you're really into the foot fetish thing. Even then, there's better stuff out there.
