Cape Town

Private movies usually attempt to string their sex scenes together with some kind of a story and Cape Town is fairly typical, being said to have been inspired by a Robert de Niro movie. The plot, slim though it might be, revolves around John Douglas (played by Richard Langin), who on his release from prison resolves to get even with the man who put him there, the public prosecutor David Bleinstein (Philippe Soin, a good choice, as he is one of the few porn stars who can act). Fortunately for us, although Bleinstein is married to the delectable Julia Spain, he can't keep his hands off anything else in a skirt, including - though this only features in the sequel - his own daughter's school friends. But Bleinstein has another secret - Douglas was imprisoned on false evidence and the film follows Douglas' progress as he sets out to prove his innocence.

The DVD transfer is reasonably good, although the color is slightly washed out and for some reason it appears in letterbox format when played back on my PC. Dialogue is in French, with the option of a voice over in English, Dutch, Spanish or Italian, which is just good enough to allow non-French speakers keep up with what is going on, assuming you have any interest in the screenplay. Personally, I quite like the idea, not least because it relates all the characters together, lessens the potential boredom of watching the same cast get it on over and over again, and heightens the eroticism. More movie houses should do this.

There are six sex scenes. In the first, Julia Spain helps Philippe Soin relax after a tough day at the office. For lingerie lovers, Julia wears a white lace teddy for much of the action, which happens to qualify as one of the better 'couples' scenes I have seen in a while, including some nice anal which she clearly enjoys a great deal. While they wreck the bed, Demia Moore, playing Julia's step-daughter, spies on them and the scene is intercut with shots of her masturbating herself, before Philippe serves Julia with a copious anal cream pie.

In scene two, our hero Douglas appeals to Laura Paouck and Monica Bella with the sad tale of his ten years behind bars and they are so upset that they take him home and give him a blow job to cheer him up. Actually, they go considerably farther than that, though I could have done with a little more footage of Laura's lips caressing his pecker and less of the rather mechanical sex that follows. Though it was adequate, the video quality in this scene could have been better at times and it was affected by the usual two gals on one guy problem; which is what to do with the spare gal - the girl on girl action lacks conviction, though the sex improves towards the end.

A short interlude follows, in which Douglas confronts Bleinstein, then tracks down Bleinstein's lawyer mistress (played by Carol Rouge), tells her how much he likes her eyes and invites her out to dinner on the strength of the compliment. Meanwhile, Bleinstein heads downtown for scene three, where his secretary Vanity conforts him as best she can, in a nice interracial encounter on a tiger skin rug. Great ass on this girl, by the way.

Scene four begins with Douglas getting Bleinstein's mistress over dinner - either a masterful piece of acting by Carol Rouge, or she really does get - following which he takes her home and checks her out with the help of a couple of friends. Carol really gets into the three-way that follows, giving us an opportunity to admire her tasteful collection of tattoos in the lingering shots of her tight body that follow. There is a particularly good close-up sequence showing her taking it up the ass the first time and some nice DP action. In deference to the plot, Douglas takes photos of Carol getting it on and something about his expression tells us they aren't for his family album.

Meanwhile, Demia - who has been kept away from boys in line with her father's strong moral views on the subject - has a lesbian scene with the delectable Blondie. This is watched by Bleinstein and Demia's stepmom, who are so turned on that they have sex in the corridor outside. Though the whole episode is somewhat contrived (you would think Demia and her lover would notice her dad getting a blow job in the open doorway) it works well. Julia Spain is one of the few pornstars who ever seems to forget she is on camera and to say that the sex between Demia and Blondie is erotic is an understatement, the 69 being a real high point.

Bleinstein now visits the judge who helped him put Douglas behind bars and bribes him to help put our hero back inside. However, at that very moment, Douglas, who has picked Demia up from school, is deflowering her in a car park up on Table mountain. Demia's insistence that she is a virgin is slightly undermined by the way she gives Douglas an expert blow job, not to mention how she lets him pound her tight little slit from every conceivable angle, takes some reverse cowgirl and doggy anal and brings him off to an oral cumshot. Maybe she read up how to do it in a book?

The film ends with Douglas showing Bleinstein the pictures taken during scene four and to see what happens next, you have to purchase Cape Town 2.

Overall, a great feature that would make nice couples viewing, assuming your partner doesn't have a hang up about anal or three-way sex. Extras include a report on how the movie was made, short bios of the female members of the cast, a collection of stills, notes on the film, short trailers for five other Private DVDs, subtitles in Dutch, Swedish, Danish or Portugese, and scene selection.
