Next stop: THE LAST RESORT
Not to be confused with the semi-classic VCA title of the same name, THE LAST RESORT is a generally well-made, if undistinguishable porno directed by Michael Raven. Interestingly, this flick bears many similarities to the John Leslie produced, Wes Emerson directed video of the nineties (the setting, the room service escapades, the encounters between staff and tourists), but I suppose that's to be expected given the exact same subject matter. However, I don't think that this film is as good as that Ashlyn Gere/Selena Steele/Lauren Hall release of the early nineties, which had superior performances, a light, breezy direction, and excellent videography which still looks great even a decade later. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this LAST RESORT and can recommend it for some the serviceable adult entertainment that it is.
Although Lene Hefner is the star of this movie and does well during her opening scene with Cheyne Collins and in her girl-girl with Jessica Drake, co-stars Jewel, Drake and Venus steal the limelight in their individual sex scenes. Miss Drake, in particular not only looks spectacular in a maid's outfit (much like Selena Steele did in VCA's movie), but she looks even better getting hammered by Stephen St. Croix in a bathroom quickie. The only problem with her scene was with her partner, who despite being a dependable woodsman in the past, seems to be a little bored here. And is it my imagination, or does his cock look a bit...different? Believe me, I don't make it a habit to stare at other guy's genitalia, but damn it, I have a job to do here at the Empire! And I can't help but notice that his tool of the trade (which I've seen in action countless times) now seems to have developed an upward turn, a la Marc Wallice. Of course, it could be just a Freudian example of penis envy on my part. Someday, I may have to dig out my copy of BAD WIVES and do a more thorough study...
Venus, who was positively stunning in her skimpy JEWEL RAIDER costume, looks equally good in a tennis outfit and shoes. Damn this girl is hot! She has a courtside screw with Jason Silver, with some impressive standing doggy fucking. Likewise, Summer Storm gives great head to Mike Horner in what is probably the best hardcore scene of the film. Only tanned and petite hardbody Krystal Summers gives less than a fully inspired performance, but then again, she is the only one to take a full oral cumshot. (Summer Storm tries to lap up Mike Horner's splooge, but he is barely able to shoot anything resembling a sizable load.)
After the Venus encounter, the movie ends with some concluding dialogue between herself and Venus. I got my hopes (among other things) up for what I thought was going to be a girl-girl between the two, but instead, we get a roll of the credits. I guess I shouldn't whine about a DVD which offers six full scenes, but a segment between the two would have pushed this film into a five star rating.
On the technical side, Sin City has yet to correct the audio errors which have recently been plaguing their DVDs. Specifically, the audio on the main feature is given a "hard" split with dialogue on the left channel and music on the right. So unless you're listening to the movie in mono, you get this weird sound separation which detracts from the otherwise fine DVD quality. Although a large part of this movie is shot in saturated reds, the picture is quality is fairly rock steady with only occasional digital artifacts creeping in.
Though the box covers indicate a director's commentary, none can be found on the disc. There is a behind the scenes featurette, and a set of interviews with the performers where Raven can sometimes be seen, but that's about it. The remainder of the bonus materials include a chapter function which allows you to skip to specific action scenes, text biographies, a photo gallery, trailers (which are well made, and not just slapped together snippets of footage which passes for previews from other studios) and several Sin City promotional items.
Come see the paradise which is THE LAST RESORT. I did, and I enjoyed my stay.
