Forever Night

This is a typically fine VCA DVD. The audio and transfer are great. The soundtrack also rocks. It sounds a lot like Enigma Europop. Extras include three trailers, audio interviews with Valentine and Ninn, and a photo gallery.

This is one of Ninn's better efforts, what might be called Victoria Secrets commercials meet Marilyn Manson MTV videos. The film showcases Ninn's fetish for period costume (the liner notes say Victorian, but the wigs, dresses, and corsets are 18th Century French). This fetish is also seen in scenes from Ninn's films "Shock", "Diva Girls" and "Diva Girls 4".

The plot is pretty dumb. It's about a guy who is lonely because he is damned after he loses his wife to a fatal accident and who likes to curse God. He even cites the famous tagline from Milton's Satan in Paradise Lost ("Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven.") It doesn't help that Jamie Gillis plays the guy and that his voice over just doesn't carry much emotional weight. The film moves easily enough from these unemotionally gripping voice-over narrations of a rebel without a cause to sex scenes, of which there is a total of seven, with Stacey Valentine is three of them.

All of the scenes are excellent, though the editing is not as good as it is in Ninn's masterpieces "Shock" and "Dark Garden". Still, it is far better than 99 percent of all other porn out there.

The first scene has Stacy Valentine in period costume, and she makes plenty of eye contact while she gives her partner head. After some solo masturbation (another Ninn fetish), she has intercourse (doggy) with a guy, and then another guy joins in for a DP, with cumshots in her mouth. Again, lots of eye contact with the camera here. Very sexy! Both guys wear white Venetian carnival masques on their faces and black silk costumes. Then it's a little more solo masturbation as we cut from Valentine in costume in color to her in modern dress and hair in black and white. The only disappointment of this scene is that the intercourse is shown in only one position. A greater variety would have been nice.

In the next scene, Jeanna Fine walks in black and white and then in color, we see she's wearing a racoon like wig and a red rubber outfit with black stockings and pumps. She also has heavy makeup on. Though she is looking a bit on the mature side, Fine delivers a great scene, and proves herself once again to be the Queen of dirty talking sluts as she takes on two guys who are also wearing masks. She defiantly asserts her right to cum. Pretty cool. Fine makes a lot of eye contact as she sucks off a guy with an uncut cock. The only problem is that, again, there is only one intercourse position (again doggy). Fine does a great job making her position sexy, and she is in great physical shape, but the scene begins to feel repetitive, especially as she makes long eye contact with the camera giving head and then after the cumshot, just as Valentine did in the earlier scene.

The third scene is with French talent Liza Harper, also in period costume, who has sex with a guy while Gillis watches. Again, we get the blowjob with eye contact , then he goes down on her. For intercourse, we get a reverse cowgirl for a change, a little clsoe up anal reverse cowgirl, then anal doggy. Cum shot in mouth is again followed by eye contact. Getting a little boring and formulaic.

The fourth scene is a three way lesbian scene with Raylene and Stacy, and the action is pretty good here. The scene starts with some more solo masturbation of Stacy, and boy does she look great She's very much in her prime her, and her make up job is fantastic. She really looks beautiful, so this is one any fan of hers will want to see. Though again much is with Valentine in a doggy position as she gets dildos pushed up her ass and pussy.

The fifth scene is a good one with Jill Kelly, also in period costume. Ninn gave more thought to this scene than the others, I would guess, given tha the shots are more inventive, and the positoins mor evarid. Kelly does a good anal scnee here. But the scene is more than a bit off putting because the guy is wearing a Satan costume kind of like the Devil in that Ridley Scott's "Legend". It's a bit gross, especially the close-ups.

The sixth is with Brittany Andrews, and Jamie Gillis here takes his turn talking dirty as he directs the sex (a similar scene is in "Dark Garden"). This scene is pretty hot, though it edges toward S&M, and so maybe a bit too kinky for some viewers. The beginning of this scene is really very funny as Gillis and Fine keep trading insults as the couple have sex. She wins.

The seventh and last scene is with Valentine, this time in modern dress with her hair cut short. Much of the action is in a warm pool. Stacy has sex missionary and standing doggy, finishing with some anal before taking the guy's cum in her mouth.

All in all, not a bad Ninn film, but not his best.

Commentary:
Michael Ninn's Forever Night is a dark, foreboding adventure into the tortured soul of a man forever shroud in darkness. This epic story is told through the use of dramatic visual imagery and extraordinary gothic sets. Only Ninn could bring such lavish sets and costumes filled with intricate detail to the adult industry. The first class camerawork and precise editing adds a Hollywood touch rarely scene in adult features.

Jami Gillis plays a man who renounces the gods after watching his child and wife die during labor. He is cursed to an eternity of darkness. This might seem awful except he gets to watch beautiful women have sex while hanging out in his tortured world. The incredibly radiant Stacy Valentine stars in three erotic sex scenes where she sports many different costumes.

The films starts off with Stacy Valentine sensually masturbation on a dark flight of stairs. We then cut to her preparing to take on two guys. The entire scene consists of cutting back and forth between masturbation and the threesome, which creates one highly erotic scene. Not only does Stacy look insatiable but she also shines with enthusiasm. The footage of her masturbating was intense as the edit switched from black and white to color. In the sex scene she gives both guys nice blowjobs then gets a heated double penetration.

Stacy also stars in a scene with Raylene and Ashley Renee. This hot, energetic lesbian scene was one of the best of the movie. After some pussy munching they pull out a double-ended vibrator. First, Stacy uses it in Raylene and Ashley's pussies simultaneous then invades their asses. The at which Stacy was driving this dildo into these girls was insane. All three girls undoubtedly enjoyed every second of this scene.

Other notable scenes include Jill Kelley being suspended by a swing and getting it hard from the Devil (Eric Price). Jeanna Fine does it hardcore with a guy in a samurai outfit. The final scene consists of Stacy and John Decker becoming intimate next to a pool. This is one heated scene, which includes exceptional close-ups, and anal penetration.

After watching this film I was amazed that an adult studio could produce such high quality work. Every aspect of this film was done to perfection. Overall the sex was hardcore and the women were beautiful.

The Disc:
VCA once again takes the lead for video quality in an adult DVD. The flawless transfer with its dazzling, vibrant colors easily rivals Hollywood produced DVDs. The sound was also well mixed, except when Jami Gillis talks in-between scenes. It was difficult to understand what he was saying because of his weak accent. Features include scene access, photo gallery, upcoming DVD trailers, star bios and an interview from Stacy Valentine.

Personally, I think this is Ninn's finest film. How this film didn't leave a larger mark on the industry, I am not sure. This one stars three legendary porn stars of our time: Stacy Valentine, Jill Kelly and Jeanna Fine - and all three deliver some sizzling hot anal sex.

Stacy is in three scenes, all of them impressive, but the last scene is a classic. With her hair pulled back, she engages in a one-on-one in the pool. Here, Ninn finds fantastic angles to capture Valentine's voluptuous body as she takes it from behind, while staring into the camera with a sexual intensity that is unmatched.

Jill Kelly, has a vintage sex scene with some sort of devil, that should rank amongst her best ever. She delivers her trademark sloppy blowjob, then moves into several positions that show us why she is considered by many to have one of the best bodies in porn.

Jeanna Fine shows us that she still has it in her wild scene. Fine simply has the most impressive oral skills I have ever seen in the industry. Nobody can deep throat with the same amount of ease and grace!

Little known Liza Harper also shows us she has some real pornstar talent in this film.

The rest of the cast is fairly impressive, as well. There are seven scenes in total.

Ninn manages to elevate this movie above the rest, with amazing production values, great scenarios, sexy outfits, a hall of fame cast, hardcore sex and some absolutely searing female eye contact with the camera.

This is one of porn's finest films.

This Michael Ninn feature flew in under the radar.
I don't think it was an AVN editor's choice, nor in
AVN's 1999 adult video guide. I can't imagine why not.
This is one of the best looking DVDs I've ever seen.
The quality of the video image was the best I've ever
seen, bar none. Incredibly high quality. There is no
question that VCA is shipping the highest quality
product in the adult business. Vivid is not even close,
their good reputation notwithstanding.

Gillis is the non-sex lead performer, who plays a man
who, after his wife and child died in childbirth, cursed
God and was condemned to spend eternity in darkness.
This turns out not to be so bad, as he gets to spend his
time with Jeana Fine watching beautiful people make love.
It reminds me of his rolls in such early 80's films as
"Dark Angel" and "Dracula Exotica." Possibly, no one except
me and Jim Holliday will remember those films. But Gillis' role here
is limited to mumbling an inaudible and unimportant soliloquy
between each scene.

Thankfully, the real star of the movie is the incredible
Stacy Valentine, who does three of the scenes. She's one
of the most beautiful and energetic sexual performers in the
world. Where does Michael Ninn find the costumes he puts
his male actors in? Check out the headgear worn by the two
guys in the scene with Jeana Fine! It must have come from some obcure
religeous ritual that is unknown to me. And the Demon mask
that Eric Price is wearing in his incredibly hot scene with
Jill Kelly is something else, too.

In short, I don't know why there wasn't more buzz about this
film. Possibly the dark, damned-to-hell tone turned some
reviewers off. But don't miss it. It is very, very hot,
and technically flawless, in the same league with "Sex"
"Latex" and "Shock," and that's about the highest
praise I can think of.

Stacy Valentine's the luscious vampire damned for eternity, not unlike the character in the TV show which served as the film's inspiration.

What this disc offers, besides the excellent image and sound quality of DVD, are a photo gallery of shots from the movie (which you'll watch at the programmer's pre-set pace or not at all), a brief interview with Valentine, some written "thoughts" from director Michael (or "Micheal", as the on-screen image would have it) Ninn, brief filmographies for the main cast members, plus the usual jump-to-scene menu (seven choices) and trailers for other VCA titles. A good package, and a good trade-up from the videotape.
