Let's Get It On With Amber Lynn

Alex DeRenzy has achieved legendary status as a director of adult films. Thankfully, VCA has a back catalog of his films which is slowly, but surely being released on DVD. Among them are STEAMY WINDOWS (starring a scorching Rachel Ryan and Danielle Rodgers), MALIBU SPICE (featuring Ashlyn Gere and Angela Summers at their best), and this classic featuring superstar Amber Lynn, LET'S GET IT ON. Originally released in the late 1980s, LET'S GET IT ON remains a critically lauded movie which historically has always been high on the list of recommended Amber Lynn films. As hot as she is in this movie, I was far more impressed with the Melissa Melindez, Brittany Stryker and John Leslie threesome which is probably more erotic than 90% of the new release DVDs in anyone's collection. This disc is not perfect, however, as VCA has unceremoniously removed an entire scene from the original movie involving Shanna McCullough, which will be discussed later. But overall, don't let the dated hairstyles and non-gonzo style direction fool you; LET'S GET IT ON is still a great film and deserving of its classic status.

Attractive brunette Katie Thomas is the narrator of this film and an active participant in a straightforward girl-guy scene at the end of this movie, which is basically a collection of individual vignettes featuring some classic adult stars. Amber Lynn's scene with Tom Byron is fast and furious, but curiously, lacks any display of her superb oral skills. In any other feature, it would be an outrage to deny the viewer an opportunity to perform her simply magnificent blowjobs, but for some reason, DeRenzy allows us to view Bryon orally pleasuring Lynn, followed by heated doggy-style fucking on a couch. The fact that this scene still works despite the requisite cock sucking is testament to de Renzy's skill as a director. Amber reeks of pure sex and slutiness in her tight, form-fitting outfit. It's no wonder that Byron could forego the blowjob and head straight for the bump and grind. A lesbian scene with the smoldering Keisha (looking somewhat funny in an Astro Boy-like hairstyle) and Ms. Lynn also had me all worked up, but since DeRenzy tends to edit his scenes rather tightly, their coupling is shorter than the standard girl-girl scene. However, we get perfectly sustained shots of Amber rimming Keisha, followed by some hot pussy slamming while the girls squeal in delight. The introduction of Keisha provides a nice transition back to Tom Byron, who gets finally gets a hearty blowjob by the lovely Latina, which then leads into some frenzied straight and tit-fucking. Naturally, Tom gets to release himself all over Keisha's natural chest, giving himself and the viewer a breather before the next (and best) scene begins.

One of the hottest threesomes I have ever seen in porn happens to feature the now renowned director John Leslie, and Latina hottie Melissa Melendez and Britany Stryker. Theirs is a fantasy sequence with Leslie assuming the role of a cop, as he directs the naughty girls in a ménage a trois that is as exhausting to watch as it must have been to film. This scene is all heat and energy, edited perfectly into one highly erotic vignette.

As mentioned earlier, in transferring this film to DVD, VCA has chosen to remove a rather hot and energetic threesome involving Jamie Gillis, Shanna McCullough, and an African American actress whose name does not appear on the credits (indeed, there are no performer or production credits to speak of anywhere on the feature). This scene, which exists on my original videotape copy, involved some use of fetish-wear on the performers, including collars, leashes and other pseudo-submissive gear, and combined the sex with some elements of bondage. Although it may have been considered risqué at the time, this sexual set-up is really no more daring than any other vignette found in a typical Anabolic or Evil Angel release. However, viewers should therefore be warned that just like VCA's recently released EVERY WOMAN HAS A FANTASY 1 and 2 disc, this DVD is an edited edition of the original movie, but there is no consumer advisory anywhere on the packaging. This needless corporate censorship is all the more irritating since Shanna McCullough is not only given a top billing on the DVD packaging, but she is also mentioned in the "star biography' and "jump to a scene" extras on the disc. For some reason, other DVD reviewers seem to have overlooked this considerable screw-up, which may actually be a testament to the overall high erotic quality of the rest of the movie, in that they didn't notice the missing scene. Still, when it comes to purchasing this video, fans of Ms. McCullough should heed the old adage: Caveat emptor.

Visual quality on this DVD is amazingly good. The picture is crisp, and clean, with only problems stemming from the original film source. The sound up to par with the video, and beats the original VHS cassette to the ground. The extras on the DVD include a photo gallery that mistakenly uses stills from Alex DeRenzy's BABYFACE 2, featuring Candi Evans, which is another old VCA release. At least they saw fit to leave out any pictures of the missing Shanna McCullough.

Despite the occasional problems, VCA Classics is a great line of DVDs which assures that some of the top erotica of yester-decade is not forgotten. Even with a scene missing, LET'S GET IT ON! is still worthy of it's highly acclaimed classic status.

Ah, back to the times when women were women, men were men and the plots were actually somewhat thought out...a better time, if you will. A time when porn was still shown in theaters and the popcorn didn't cost you $10. Yes, that's right, I mean a re-release on DVD. Anyway, you don't want me to go on about what I the times that I was never around for...you want to know what I think.

We begin with a good setup...the ever present friend is waiting for the sister to arrive, who turns out to be Amber Lynn who is involved in a loveless relationship. Next we find the guy from the first scene with yet another chick (he definitely gets around). Overall, this is the way that movies should be - a good plot, lots of sex. Well, except for the overly hairy pussies, but we can excuse that due to the time period. In terms of features, this disc had chapter selection, cast bios, previews, internet access, and pics.

A handsomely staged gem from esteemed adult movie director Alex de Renzy, LET'S GET IT ON! (1987) wastes precious little time getting the fun started. Acted with remarkable verve throughout, it's a fun-filled romp through a delightful assortment of bedrooms. All but one of the seven excellent sex scenes in this amusing film take place atop a mattress. (Look closely at the walls behind them, and you'll occasionally see framed posters for other films directed by de Renzy.)

After a spoken onscreen introduction by Katie Thomas (with her breasts wobbling tantalizingly under her sheer gown as she speaks) the film begins with Amber Lynn - playing a friend of Tom Byron's wife - arriving for an extended visit. Finding Byron home alone, Lynn lights up a Marlboro and propositions him with an eager inquiry of, "Do you think we have time for a quickie?" Byron turns to the camera and stammers, "I never met a girl who got to the point quite so fast."

Yep, it's that kind of movie!

Moments later, true to the film's title, Byron and Lynn are gettin' it on. It's a great, passionate scene with good music (ragtime piano yielding to electric blues guitar), excellent lighting/cinematography and great sound quality. A detail well worth noting is that Lynn has a nice, full natural bush - not one of those Hitler-moustache "bikini cuts" which have unfortunately become so popular among the new crop of adult film actresses these days.

Cast as Byron's wife, the joyful actress Keisha is a delight to watch. She has wonderfully all-natural breasts, displayed at their finest when she's bouncing atop Byron and (especially) when they wobble as Byron sprays his milky load onto them. There's also a very good lesbian scene between Keisha and Amber Lynn, in which Lynn spends an unusually long time admiring, stroking and licking Keisha's truly fine pair.

The longest and best sex scene in LET'S GET IT ON! is a fabulous threesome between John Leslie and two very attractive (and very young) women. After putting both gals through their paces, Leslie rapidly alternates orifices between one girl and then the other until he comes onto their faces...and then re-inserts his cock and resumes thrusting until one of the girls actually chokes from the unexpected blast of his reserve load. Soon, Miss Thomas has all she can handle and more. It's a fittingly spectacular finish to this very pleasant movie.

The DVD of LET'S GET IN ON! is very nicely transferred, with a clear and bright image that preserves all the warmth of the original film version. It 's also packed with several extra features, including a "Cast" menu which works in an interesting way. Click on the name of an actress, and disc immediately jumps to one of the best sex scenes featuring her.

This classic vignette film from the legendary Alex DeRenzy gets a richly deserved DVD release. Yet this film barely features Amber Lynn.

Let's Get It On looks and sound fantastic. There can be little doubt that no one had ever seen this film look so good.

As is expected with titles this old, there is very little extra material to be gathered. Each disc has scene-specific chapter stops, a few cast bios, and some live-play stills (mostly from other DeRenzy films).
