XRCO Awards '98 - The Movie

First, lets get a bit of potential confusion out of the way. Even though the box cover for this DVD indicates that these are the 1998 XRCO awards, they are actually the awards for movies made in 1997. Since these awards were presented in early 1998, the date on the box refers to the year the show took place, not the year the movies getting awards here were produced.

Now comes the question of what exactly is the XRCO. Well, XRCO stands for the X-Rated Critics Organiation, which was founded by William Margold and Jim Holliday as a way of the critics naming what they felt the best films and performers of the year were. Now before you ask (and I just knew you would), neither myself nor any of the other fine critics here at Adult DVD Empire are members of this organization. Nor are most of the well-known adult critics found on other adult internet sites. I'm guessing that most of the members come from print media, but who these critics are and exactly how much porn they really watch a year (and for that matter, how a great reviewer like my buddy Diesel is not part of this organization) remains a mystery.

That being said, most of the awarded actresses and pictures from 1997 seem to be the same ones that the AVN Awards (a much more glitzy and glamorous affair) honored in 1997. Among the winners here are Bad Wives for Best Film, Tom Byron for his performance in Indigo Delta, and Dyanna Lauren for her performance in Bad Wives. In addition to these actors, you'll also get to see clips featuring such adult stars as Chloe, Nikita, Serenity, Alisha Klass, Jill Kelly, and many more of your favorites from the late 90's - some still active in the industry, some not.

Like the AVN Show DVDs that VCA puts out, this Wicked release contains footage from most of the show, both pre-show and post-show interviews (the AVN DVDs don't have post-show footage), plus clips from the winning performer's scene or from the winning movie. So even if you aren't crazy about watching adult performers accept awards instead of doing what they do best, this DVD proves to be a nice compilation disc featuring scenes from a lot of different studio's titles.

In addition to the main awards show (which runs about 132 minutes, including interviews), this disc also contains a photo gallery, trailers and Wicked promotional material. Not bad for such a reasonably priced disc. If you're a fan of these types of DVDs, and want a decent compilation of scenes from the late 90's, this one is worth picking up.
