Nightshift Nurses

One of the first true "classics" courtesy of VCA, NIGHTSHIFT NURSES marked veteran porn actor John Leslie's directorial debut, a career move which has led to continuing success for over ten years. Now a member of the Evil Angel Empire, Mr. Leslie had created and produced stunning works of erotica, including THE CHAMELEON starring Tori Welles, CURSE OF THE CATWOMAN featuring Selena Steele, and DOGWALKER with Christina Angel.

This film can't quite measure up to those aforementioned classics, but since NIGHTSHIFT NURSES was a first try [and a successful one at that], it deserves to be evaluated on its own merit. The cover features late eighties pornstars, who would probably be unrecognized by today's fans: dark-haired Bionca, blonde Lois Ayres and AmerAsian Sheena Horne, all looking cute as hell in white lingerie and nurse's hats. While modern audiences may miss seeing all the Jill Kelly clones which usually populate today's porn flicks, let me assure you that the sexual talents of these ladies are more than enough to promote satisfaction.

Among seven scenes, a few stand out for repeat viewing: Bionca, Sheena Horne and Lynn Francis work overtime trying to take care of an ailing Peter North. Beginning with a double blowjob courtesy of Lynn and Bionca, Sheena then joins the crowd for a brief lesbian three-way while Peter watches across the room. Peter then gets to take Bionca on a cowgirl ride and then fucks Sheena missionary style before spilling his famous can blasts all over her chest. Latina lovely Keisha is one of the most underrated cocksuckers, but she is unfortunately teamed with the very bizarre Josey Duval, who looks like he lost his way from the psychiatric ward. After a hearty BJ followed by a round of doggy, Keisha lamentably does engage in any further sex scenes for the rest of the movie.

Tall and lanky Siobhan Hunter offers Peter North a blowjob, when she is interrupted by John Leslie who takes her from behind. The two finish her off with double penetration fucking. Finally, Lois Ayres is saved for the ending scene when she gets it on with janitor Edwin Justice for some hot interracial sex which regrettably does not end with a pop shot. The scene simply fades out while he fucks her on a table.

"Porn historian" Jim Holliday is credited as a co-writer of this movie, and his creative eccentricities are noted in the oddball lot of characters and the quick and to the point sex scenes. Mr. Holliday would later make a sequel to this movie featuring modern actresses like Misty Rain, which I hope that VCA releases on disc by next year. This film however, does have some amusing lines, and the quirky patients and goofy doctors will give you a Tom Green-ish viewing experience.

As always, VCA has transferred this shot-on-video feature to the digital medium with superior results. John Leslie videos always had a bright, clean and clear look and NIGHTSHIFT NURSES never looked better than on DVD. However, for whatever reason or purpose, there are several short scenes where the image goes blurry, as if some segment had been reformatted or edited during the transfer. The musical soundtrack is also pretty well-recorded, although the funky synthesizer work in the Lois Ayres scene was a bit headache-inducing. Since I never owned a copy of this movie on VHS, I was not able to compare the cassette version with the DVD so as to note any omissions or edits from the original release.

NIGHTSHIFT NURSES isn't the best film John Leslie has ever directed, but it is worth watching if only for "historical" purposes.
