Going Against The Family

By Spooky
Bobby Soporno (Rob Spallone) is back, but even his powerful connections are not enough to save The Sopornos 2, a lackluster sequel that has even less to do with the HBO series it is parodying than the first Sopornos movie did. All the pieces are in place, including a great cast of characters and the opportunity for a fun story, but there seems to be little rhyme or reason to the action here, so while we do get a couple of fun sex scenes to watch, the actual storyline seems to have more holes than that toll booth James Caan got his last ticket at in The Godfather.

Bobby is back at his psychiatrist (Windy Night), once again telling her all of his problems. This, unfortunately, is the closest in story to The Sopranos as this movie ever gets. Bobby is out of the casino business (as seen in the first Sopornos film) and now invested in a strip club, the Bada Boom. The first sex scene in The Sopornos 2 shows Bill Margold getting sucked by Juliet Sheridon, while Tony Tedeschi is taking care of Lola over near the club's stage. After Bill quickly cums on Juliet's tits, the focus goes to Tony and Lola, whose scene ends in a so-so facial.

Next, we are introduced to the woman who is helping Bobby run his club, played by Jewel De'Nyle. Jewel adds a lot of spark to this below-average film, as her first scene in the film is a lesbian coupling with blonde-haired Samantha. In the very next scene, Jewel is at it again with Hershel Savage, who plays Bobby's cousin, Victor. There's a very nice facial to end this scene...so while the story is going nowhere, at least the sexual action is picking up.

Victor and Bobby decide that they are going to get into the porn business with a guy named Jimmy D (played by director James DiGiorgio). Of course, James has no idea how to direct a porno movie (a fact the viewer is already aware of if he or she has made it this far into the film!), and Bobby's investment isn't working out the way he hoped it would. So, in the movie's most inspired and funniest scene, Bobby and the boys head off to AVN headquarters where they try to convince Gene Ross (who at the time this movie was filmed still worked for AVN) to give their new movie a good review.

Meanwhile, a couple of goons played by Alec Metro and Joey Ray are questioning Jewel De'Nyle and trying to get information from her. They don't get the information that they are looking for, but what they do get is to be part of one extremely hot threesome, which is easily the highlight of the movie. Jewel looks great in this scene, decked out in some black lingerie with sexy black stockings and garters. Additionally, we get to see her involved in some hot DP action and watch as she gets a double facial from Alec and Joey in the segment's conclusion.

The conclusion of The Sopornos 2 is mearly a set-up for the next chapter in the series. Hopefully, if a third chapter is made, more focus will be directed toward the story, rather than just the sex--which is the only real reason to tune in to The Sopornos 2.

Although the movie didn't live up to expectations, there's no denying that VCA has delivered in the video, audio and bonus categories. As with almost all VCA DVDs, the video is top-notch, the audio is above average and the bonus features include audio bios of selected cast members, a slide show, three trailers of other titles, the original trailer for the first Sopornos movie and behind the scenes featurettes for both this film and the original installment. However, the "Who Dunnit" bonus game advertised on the DVD box cover is not on the disc, and I am told by VCA it was a misprint, and will be removed from the box cover for the next pressing of the disc.

There are some great parodies of television shows and movies available from the adult industry, but The Sopornos 2 is not one of them. Instead, the makers of this film seem satisfied merely to capitalize on the title's name without putting any real thought into the storyline or action. When the end credits start to roll, you won't want to spend any more time with this family.
