Still Insatiable

Marking Marilyn Chambers' second comeback, Still Insatiable stays afloat thanks to a great supporting cast and some pretty hot sex scenes. Besides the legendary Marilyn, VCA packed this feature with the best A-list talent they could muster including Chloe, Juli Ashton, Stacy Valentine, Kylie Ireland, and (everybody's favorite Russian spies) Nikita and Vicca. The result is a fairly hot and memorable movie.

In the movie Marilyn plays senator Andrea Ballworth. Set during an election year Andrea is trying to drum up support among women's groups by attacking, everybody's favorite whipping post, pornography. During one scene she attends a rally where she's joined by several familiar faces. The irony of seeing people like Ron Jeremy, Gloria Leonard, Veronica Hart, and Georgina Spelvin at an anti-porn rally is only equaled by Marilyn's return to hardcore. Afterall, many of these people started doing porn long after Marilyn's debut and have since retired. Anyway, Andrea eventually gets caught up in her research material and ends up going on a sexual binge that involves her bodyguard, staff, and even some lucky constituents. By the end of the movie she realizes the hypocrisy of her position and decides that pornography isn't so bad afterall.

Marilyn has three scenes total, and they're not too bad. Her first scene is with her bodyguard, played by Julian. Like most VCA DVDs, Still Insatiable is a top notch production. Shot on video with some occasional soft focus filters, the picture looks pretty good for the most part, but the transfer experienced some difficulties picking up some of the darker colors. This results in some noticeable pixelation mainly in the blacks and shaded hues. The sound is about what you'd expect from a title like this. Presented in Dolby 2.0, there's not much missing, and the audio is mixed very well. The extras are great featuring a great commentary with Veronica Hart and Marilyn. The two talk about making the movie as well as comparing the modern business with the good 'ol days. There's also a good behind the scenes featurette along with some interviews with the most of the cast members.

Still Insatiable is a good movie, but never generates the momentum to achieve greatness. For a modern feature, the story's premise is decent but lacks full development. As scripted, the sex scenes are pretty basic, but the remarkable cast elevates them above their scripted predestination. Marilyn Chambers' fans will obviously be curious about the comeback, and fortunately there's enough good stuff to appease those who like the older Marilyn, and those who don't.

Personally I prefer to remember Marilyn in her earlier films. She's still an incredible performer, but not all the creative angles and soft focusing in the world can hide the fact that she's pushing the half century mark. Some might like the older woman angle, and it works in the first scene, but headlining an entire movie seems a bit excessive for the mainstream porn audience. On the other hand, maybe her comeback will broaden the audience appeal; it certainly wouldn't be the first time she's revolutionized the business.

Like Torn, this is a no-expenses-barred film that was directed by Veronica Hart. Veronica has a very creative and wicked mind and does an outstanding job of coordinating set selection and design, costuming, casting, and, of course, directing the sexual activities and camera angle and position. In addition, she is very creative when staging the sex scenes. Chambers fans will want to add this to their DVD collections; the curious and the newcomers will also want to see what the fuss is about.

Wow, there are a lot of choices on this menu. The full motion chapter stops are well done as always. Under the cast selection, we get mini slide shows, bios and an interview with Marilyn. The way VCA does this particular extra feature is very unique. You can click to a scene from the bio, allowing you to see your favorites in action. This time around, we also get interviews with the whole cast. Nice slide show with high quality photos of some of the hard core action. Both the Behind the Scenes and Outtakes sections are well worth looking at as well. The audio commentary is a nice touch as well, especially if you switch back and forth during the movie and just catch the highlights. Previews for other titles and multi-angle selections round out this top notch extras package.

Along with the return of Ginger Lynn in 'Torn', the comeback of Marilyn Chambers in 'Still Insatiable' were the biggest stories in porn for 1999.
