JACK'S PLAYGROUND is one of the very few gonzo titles which may not always amuse, but will certainly excite. Whether or not the in-jokes, parodies, sketches, one-liners and just generally broad humor will appeal to you depends on how seriously you take your porn... With the exception of some of the older and crazier Dark Bros. films, most attempts at comedy can fall pretty flat at best, or simply infuriate at worst. Luckily, director Robby D. shoots for the broad spectrum, from off-color jokes (a black dildo called "Montel" hosts a press conference announcing a sarcastic apology for calling the rather big-boned Melanie Jagger a "pig") to the ridiculously contrived (the very cute Aiden Lane sells subscriptions to a yearly periodical door to the door), and from over-the-top satirical (a well-known adult critic is seen reacting violently to the series itself) to the merely insulting (skinny, country hick-looking Richard Raymond is referred to as an "ugly motherfucker" who looks like William H. Macy).

Overall, the funny stuff doesn't always succeed, but JACK'S PLAYGROUND is directed and presented in such a lightweight, breezy style, that it's almost impossible not to enjoy this distinctive and popular series. Of course, it helps a great deal that the female talent (with perhaps only one or two exceptions) are experts at what they do, even though a few appear to be new comers to sin cinema. The first scene featuring Aiden Lane introduces her as a bubbly, almost innocent girl-next-door. She flubs up her opening lines so convincingly, that I find it hard to believe that the gaffe was intentional. But when it comes to sex, she shows a wealth of experience, delivering full eye-contact blowjobs with lots of spitting, and performing reverse cowgirl with more exclamations of "Fuck!" than heard in the last four Martin Scorsese films. When Scott Nails - who gets to fuck the majority of women in this flick - spills his nut juice in her mouth, she gulps it down without a hint of hesitation.

After a few comical intermissions, front and center covergirl Austin Kincaid is up, and good lord almighty, is she sexy! First seen in tight blue jeans which reveal just one of many of her great features, Austin's dark, smoky looks remind me of Sydnee Steele, or at least, Sydnee's younger and equally horny little sister. Equally lukewarm is the following scene with McKenzie Lee, who does not look her best here and - if may I impolitely comment in the same spirit as the video's ongoing critique of Melanie Jagger - is in need of an orthodontist. Look, it's not like I really care about what a guy looks like when he's having the good fortune to boink my favorite pornstar, but skinny and blank-looking Richard Raymond had me distracted throughout. I kept wondering, just how the hell did a shlub like him end up in an anal scene with a performer like her? (The jokes made at his expense are a bit crude, but accurate). Of course, his presence did not affect me from appreciating Tory's superb oral work and even better anal performances. Quite simply, Tory is what every horny guy would want in a fuck-mate: dark looks, top-heavy, leggy, and with always in heat. Her presence (despite her partner) is a perfect way to end this volume of JACK'S PLAYGROUND.

However, the most notable characteristic of JACK'S PLAYGROUND #27 is the fact that it's available on Blu-ray disc and well-worth watching for the visual elements alone. I had the disappointment of viewing my first high definition porno with Vivid's DEBBIE DOES DALLAS...AGAIN, which looked barely better than most standard definition titles. Well, JP #27 shows just how much there is to see when it comes to nakedness and nastiness with crystal clear images which displayed nicely on my 50" 1080p screen. I haven't had the chance to compare this disc with the original DVD version, but it was immediately apparent that the video was far and away better than my past viewing experiences of previous JP editions. (Admittedly, that may not be a fair comparison, as it is explained in this edition's recap that volume #26 was the last one to be shot in standard definition or "shit video quality.") In any event, I can't imagine any Blu-ray owner bothering with regular porn DVDs when their high def counterpart is available, and I probably won't want to watch forthcoming of JACK'S PLAYGROUND unless I get to see it in Blu. The Dolby Digital soundtrack helped a bit in clarifying some of the poorly-miked lines of dialogue, but audio isn't a distinctive part of the hardcore presentation (the jokes come in loud and clear for the most part). I have no idea whether adult will benefit from such high falutin' surround codecs like DTS-HD Master Audio, but we'll just have to wait and see and hear.

This movie is a good example of what can happen when you say the wrong thing at the wrong time. No, actually it is what can happen if you say the right thing, but it gets read by the wrong people. Some of you may remember that back in Jack's 25 there was a little scene with Melanie Jagger. The guys behind the JP movies added some text about Mel being a "pig." In response, they decided that it would be fun to have me and the other journalist (Gram Ponante) who called them out, in front of the camera. So what is the point to this? First to make sure everyone knows that I'm reviewing the movie in spite my "starring" role in the production. Also I wanted to take this opportunity to place the blame for my hideous performance on the brain trust at Digital Playground. Don't blame me. Enough of that, let's get to the new Jack's Playground adventure.

After the mandatory recap of the last movie, Montel appears at his press conference to address the Melanie Jagger issue. Don't worry, he does nothing but make it worse. More from him later.
