Cheaters: It May Work Or Not
I love the concept for Cheaters: Caught Or Not, allowing viewers to choose whether the cheating girl or guy in each scene gets caught by their significant other or not. However, there was one big problem for me: the branching option never showed up while viewing this release on my Blu-ray player (a PS3 updated to version 2.53). Whether the problem is specific to my player or all Blu-ray players, I'm not quite sure, but as a result I had to watch all of the "caught" footage (which fortunately 3rd Degree makes part of the bonus materials) separately and could only watch the "not caught" footage during the movie.
Even had the option worked, I'm not sure I'd feel that much more positive about this Mike Quasar directed release, as it seems like a lot of good talent was put in some rather standard sexual situations. Alexis Texas goes through the motions in her first scene with Mike Blue, which was shot before she started to do anal on camera - so no backdoor action here. Kylee Reese's scene with Alex Gonz is rather average, as is Evie Delatosso's pairing with Marco Banderas. Even the quality pairing of Tori Black with Juelz Ventura is only a carpet-munching affair in the "not caught" version - you'll need to watch the "caught" version to see the threesome they have with Mark Wood.
The highlight of the entire Blu-ray is the scene involving Jenna Haze and Mr. Pete. In the "not caught" version, Jenna makes out in a hotel room with Pete, who's cheating on girlfriend Ann Marie Rios. The one-on-one is very good, but the action really heats up in the "caught" version, where Ann Marie joins in on the fun (and Jenna takes anal). Is this one (or is that two?) great scene worth picking up the title? Maybe...maybe not...but it certainly makes Cheaters something worth taking a look at instead of dismissing completely.
The 1080p video quality of this release was good, it not top-notch. It didn't quite have the "pop" I've seen in other adult Blu-rays, but it's still a very good looking title. Audio is serviceable in 2.0 Dolby, but it's still only average for an adult title and for the kind of audio that is possible on the Blu-ray format.
In addition to the "caught" material in the extras (which really should be considered part of the movie - even if my player couldn't access it during the title), the bonuses consist of a 14-minute behind the scenes segment, a 5-minute cumshot loop option, and three trailers for other 3rd Degree releases.
With adult Blu-rays still at a premium these days and with the possibility that the interactivity of this release won't work on your player, this release is a better option on DVD or even as a rental.
A good idea for a movie, just not one taken to its full advantage - aside from that great session with Ms. Haze and Ms. Rios.
