Sex Offenders, The

I have frequent complaints about the big studios these days, some place I would put the Teravision imprints from Vivid. They seem to try to be so high production value that they go low for kitsch value. On top of that, the girls seem to be getting disturbingly small in a way that seems unhealthy to me, though does seem to reflect some vein of popular sentiment. Take Jenna Jameson from the 90s (healthy and beautiful, in my eyes, even if I was more of a Chasey Lain fan) compared to more this decade, and you'll note the difference. This is why Stoya had me concerned on the cover. She looks as though she's just naturally small, but her image on the cover set a kind of tone to me. Not to worry, though. The Sex Offenders is far better than the box cover might seem.

The first scene with Lexi Belle would be more pleasant if it didn't look like I produced it at my house. The talent seems to be doing nice things, and Lexi's obviously attractive, but the lighting and shadows should be embarrassing to the director, and the close-ups only help us to miss the action itself. The music was pretty awful in my eyes as well, so I flipped on the iTunes to make my own soundtrack. Worked remarkably well, but as I'm a bit of a dance music fan ( and progressive house in particular), the beats sometimes lined up with certain things a bit too well. Still, when we get to see Lexi's face, it's a nice thing and makes up for some of the worthlessness of the production techniques.

Stoya and Ariel X to a rather nice job in the second scene, though some of those soft/jump fades don't work all that well for me. You know the ones, the ones they use to make things seem a bit creepier in horror flicks lately. With less production interference, this could be a good scene, though I don't know that this is the right mix of talent in the right place. Their bodies are just too similar. And damn... Stoya really is very, very thin. Maybe I should worry.

Roxy DeVille is billed in the third scene, While it's an A for effort here, I didn't much care for the fast forwarding during scenes. Losing the sense of timing of the scene makes for everything to be a jumble and seem a lot more prurient. I mean, I know it's prurient, but still. The sequencing and timing just didn't do it for me, though applause all around for the hard work of the talent.

Finishing with Regan Reese and Holly Wellin is surely a nice way to end, as they're my favourite talent on the disc. I will also pitch into any fund to help any studio (though I'd really want Elegant Angel to do it) pay whatever fee Regan Reese is demanding for anal. Please, this needs to happen. Regan and Holly take on a guy together, and while they seem to work well together, they just don't seem to be into each other. The guy doesn't make much difference in this regard, either. So while there isn't that uncomfortable factor you can sometimes get when two non-lesbians are cast in a scene together (I know nothing of their respective orientations), the heat that surely could be in this scene is lacking. I've seen both do much better work.

And that's it. Wait, four scenes? Really? You can still do that and charge money? Just for sheer quantity I would have liked at least one more scene, and when the competition is usually doing five or six (or nine, if you're Jules Jordan), then I'm sorry, but you'd better be bringing something really special to the table.

The Vivid-ness of this is plain to see. They're trying to get away with reputation rather than product, and I for one refuse to let them do it. True, this one only suffered from poor production values and pretentious directing, but combine this with their propensity for selling a lifestyle and making us sit through the ads, and I see a company that, if it isn't in trouble, should be. There are others out there giving us more and giving it to us with more skill. This is no knock on the talent of The Sex Offenders, as all are quite talented. They're also best employed elsewhere.
