Wet Brunettes

Not even the nut-busting, cock-hardening presence of Cytherea is enough to pull WET BRUNETTES out of the sea of gonzo mediocrity which this title oh-so-stubbornly swims in. It's a middle of the road fuck flick which gives you cute girls and lots of sex, but not much of anything else. If that is enough for you, then hey, be my guest and give this DVD a spin and you'll be able to squeeze a little self-satisfaction or two. Me, however, well I think my DVD budget could be allocated to something better, harder and nastier. (Recent videos like THE VOYEUR #27 and SEMEN SIPPERS would certainly fit that bill.)

This is also my third or fourth review of a Platinum X Pictures DVD, and once again, I remain unsatisfied by the uninspired content. While New Sensations and Simon Wolf (just to name two ever-improving studios) try to spice up their gonzo line with more convincing tease and foreplay, PXP gives the bare minimum one can expect from hardcore, and the lack of originality and ambition are obvious when you compare WET BRUNETTES with a more consistently superior title like DRIPPING WET SEX.
With a title like WET BRUNETTES, how can one not expect anything but predictable settings like showers, swimming pools and bathtubs? However, most of the action takes place strictly on dry land in everyday settings (for porn, that is) like a couch or bed. In the first scene, a glum-faced Aimee Tyler masturbates in slow motion while soaping herself up, however, the video plays back in a strobe-like fashion and further reduces what little erotic effect her opening scene had. Seconds later, she is seen lying on a couch and sucking on the cock of her guy (Scott Lyons?) with a look of utter disinterest. She becomes a bit more progressive as the action continues and eventually leads in to anal and then a facial cumshot, but this is still one of the most clinical and passionless scenes I've witnessed in awhile.

Fortunately, my new favorite flavor of the year, Cytherea, appears next and heats us up with some dirty talk and dildo going in and out of her quim. She then meets up with Anthony Hardwood, who gets his dick sucked up by her mouth and pussy. This tiny brunette gives it her all, and though she isn't quite up to the stature of Jenna Haze or Taylor Rain in terms of carnal intensity (especially since she doesn't do anal here), her scene is the highlight of WET BRUNETTES. Interestingly, she doesn't "squirt" in this video, despite her reputation for this kind of conduct.

Vanessa, a very cute Latina whose attractiveness is diminished by a huge tattoo on her low back, wets herself down in a jacuzzi (again, we get that annoying camera effect) and gets banged on a different couch with Kris Slater. Deep oral work and spooning anal action also make her scene stand out among the others, but the doggy-style fucking gets a bit monotonous. Further, the cumshot misses most of her mouth and ends up mostly on her right eye. Felicia Fox plays with herself in a sunken bathtub and gets it on with Julian on a bed. Vaginal to mouth fucking occurs every so often, as does some light choking. Felicia genuinely seems to enjoy her work, as shown by her facial expressions and non-stop moaning and yelping. She also swallows and smiles while doing so.

The flick ends with a big bang when it's Morgan Rider's turn. Teamed up with Mark Ashley, she gets throat fucked and analized in a variety of positions (including the always dependable pile-driver). Though very physical, this scene just didn't hold my interest, due largely to the unflattering presentation of the Ms. Rider (mascara and make up is smeared on her face as the scene progresses) and the fact that it's all about proficiency without passion. There is no doubt that raincoaters would disagree with me and name this scene as the best of the bunch; however, I just couldn't get into it.

Though the women are specifically identified in the opening credits, we are given no notice about who the male participants are until the end credits (where they are randomly listed as "the guys"). The DVD Extras include a "Behind The Scenes" featurette, in which Jewel tells Aimee Tyler, "I just need a really high, energetic scene from you today" and in my view, gets just the opposite. Platinum also gives us the forever-convenient Cumshot Recap, a video Photo Shoot of all the girls except Cytherea (which kind of ticked me off), and routine materials including a Photo Gallery and studio promos. Video and audio quality is up to standards for a shot-on-video title.

I don't expect art when it comes to gonzo video, but directors like Jules Jordan, Francesca Le, Skeeter Kerkove and John Strong among others are at least trying to do something a bit different, or at least impose their own distinctive style on this genre. With all the fine talent on hand, it's too bad the Platinum aspires to do no more than imitate current trends.
