Playgirl: Spicy Sexcapades

Let me just say straight away that I'm all for films like Spicy Sexcapades. Here we have a film not marketed as so much of the adult film industry is: as the exclusive domain for men presented based upon which women are doing what. Spicy Sexcapades and the work of Playgirl, as you would guess by the company, throws that on its head somewhat. Listing the male talent first is a different approach as well, something that goes a long way towards creating some kind of equity. There are aspects that I think go too far in trying to appeal to a female only audience (though this too I feel is quite necessary given the plethora in the other direction): the romance novel language on the back and weird photo quality is just a bit off. These are just attempts at creating a market, though, and speak very favourably to what Playgirl, with the help of distribution from Wicked, is trying to do.

Being the have-dessert-first kind of guy that I am, I tend to flip to the special features first when popping a disc in. Here we have a bonus solo scene. Great. Cool. I like the discs, like the Fishnets series tends towards, of having the women in something sexy (lingerie is so my thing) dancing and working themselves over, preferably without toys. That and a bonus scene are the best things you can get in the special features. Spicy Sexcapades has a solo scene as it turns out, but it's a male solo scene. I asked OranjeWife about this, and she was wondering, as I was, why anyone would want to watch that. I then asked OranjeMistress, and she was all about it, quickly claiming this disc as her own. I guess there's a market for it, then, but I have to think we don't make the most pleasant facial expressions while doing that, and it strikes me as more aerobic than erotic.

There were a couple of standout scenes to me, especially the ones with Tori Black & Spencer Slade and Jasmeen LaFleur and Danny Wylde. Tori is enough of a star in this business that we should expect routine greatness from her, but this scene in particular was very well done. First, I like that the scenes are sorted by both male and female talent. This needs to happen if we are to appeal to a complete mainstream audience. Not to say there isn't room for films based on female talent alone, but we need the broad spectrum appeal. Tori looks fantastic in a slinky little black dress, and I have a great deal of respect for how the director captures the chemistry between these two. It isn't just a festival of genital staring. Each detail is covered in a way that makes foreplay as erotic as it should be. The penetration is slower, less of a pounding than you might see in some other porn, though it's still captured with reasonable skill. I was curious what they would do with this kind of film as far as a money shot is concerned. I mean, does the scene still need to end with the male ejaculating? I think it does, but I'm not a neutral party to this. There is a stomach shot to end it, though there's some nice kissing as we fade out. It seems like a pleasant compromise.

Jasmeen LaFleur just has a look I really like. She's a busty dark-haired woman with some nice tattoos to boot. We open with a male shower scene, though, and I hope no one's bothered that I skipped that bit. Jasmeen does some excellent work, including a lingering blowjob sequence that takes its time so that we can watch both of them. Danny Wylde is a bit more aggressive of a guy, so his action has a faster pace to it than the previous scene. This being on a bench in a locker room, there isn't much that can be done position wise, but that's alright, as getting Jasmeen in a missionary position is plenty pleasant enough. It's another gut shot of cum, and we have a faster fade out to this scene.

It's a pleasant enough disc, and probably a nice compromise to the couples library that leans more towards the guy's satisfaction in a standard relationship (this is where I get a bit lucky, considering OranjeWife's favourite pornstar is Belladonna and OranjeMistress has a thing for Bree Olson). It's a step in the right direction for the entire industry and a reminder that good production values can indeed capture the eroticism of porn, not just the penetration and flapping body parts. Excellent work by all involved.
