Like you, I've heard all the hype. Now Maneater is finally here and we finally get to see Janine take a hard cock. Instead of coming up with some kind of storyline-based feature to mark Janine's return to porn, this is a documentary-style gonzo flick, with Janine being interviewed and talking straight to the camera about her comeback. I think the nicest thing to see here was that Janine doesn't have any primadonna illusions about herself or her place in porn. She knows what the criticisms about her have been in the past, and she knows that many will criticize her return now.

Speaking of primadonna illusions, it's kind of ironic that Janine would have her first scene with Nick Manning - who seems to be the king of fantasyland when it comes to porn actor ego. It's nice to see Janine back where she belongs and offering something new and appealing to her longtime fans. No, she isn't going to capture those viewers who only want to see young newbies - but for those of us who know it takes much more than youth to make a good porn star, it's great to have Janine back in the fold.

This is something new on a number of levels. I haven't reviewed a Vivid movie in a very long time. I also have never reviewed Janine doing guys before. OK not true, I reviewed that thing she did with Vince Neil a few years ago. This is her first official scene with a guy after over a decade of licking pussy. We don't need to get into all of the details of why this is a big event, if it's too late or any of that stuff. (All of that has been done on message boards for a year.) This is her debut with dick and I know that a lot of you have been waiting for this moment for years. (Yeah so why did you wait so long to review it?) All of the girls are at least semi-cute and most of them give pretty good scenes to boot. Haylee takes a while to warm up, but the way she squat fucks near the end makes up for the sluggish start. So what have we got? A movie that many porn fans have been waiting a decade to see. That doesn't happen every day, so it's worth a look for that reason alone. Janine is in fantastic shape in this movie and she's still a very beautiful woman. This is a case of a movie that just isn't as hot as its star. The first scene is shot in a very odd way like they couldn't decide between feature or gonzo style and got us stuck in the middle somewhere. Nick Manning nearly blows the whole thing with his freaking screaming, but Janine's heat and the novelty of seeing her suck cock on camera makes it work. The in-between scenes aren't bad but they suffer from being "ordinary" in a movie that is an "event." I liked the three way scene quite a bit. Janine really has fun with this one and having another girl along for the ride seems to make it more fun for all. (Though a little distracting for us.) I love the idea of Janine and Sunrise, but the scene looks like the bonus fuck. It's a still shoot put to video and that always feels like they are selling us short. I really liked the interview footage in between the scenes. Janine is at her best when she's relaxed and just letting things flow. The bottom line is that Janine is doing guys and I hope to see more of her beauty and energy in movies that a lot better than this one.

In my opinion the answer to both questions is: "Good Start".

Performance wise, Janine seems to be trying to find her b/g "fuck style." She's in three scenes (a b/g, a g/g/b, and a g/g)and each one has a different "feel" to it.

The first scene with Nick Manning tries to hit the viewer like a Nicole Sheridan scene. Hot, nasty (though no anal), lots of talking and groaning. Nick pushes his dick down Janine's throat saying: "You're sucking a real cock, now!" The scene has a rough edge to it, and Janine is more passive than in her g/g classics, and seems to be trying to figure out how to be (Nicole Sheridan or Monica Sweetheart) "wild." Janine also seems very uncomfortable with Nick, who is a "newbie" to the porn scene since Janine's glory days. This scene's not a great beginning, and locating part of it in a bathroom (before it unexplainably is moved to a bedroom) adds to the sense of discomfort and gives it a "closed in" feeling, but Nick knows how to fuck, and Janine keeps bouncing her ass on his dick.

The g/g/b scene that follows teams Janine with Angelica Sin and Dale DaBone, and works much better than the Nick Manning scene. Janine seems to be at ease having a pussy in the scene to lick while Dale fucks her from behind or on top. A good scene, but not an award winner.

In "Maneater" she's thick around the middle, her butt's not as tight as it use to be (she mentions that herself!), but mostly her boobs have a lot more sag in them. Finally, and one of the main reasons I strongly recommend this DVD (besides it being the first Janine b/g) is the Janine/Julian scene in the Extras section, which is a video of their hardcore "Club Magazine" photo shoot. It rocks! The camera angles are excellent, Julian knows how to turn up the heat with Janine, and there's a real seen of chemistry between the them. Which translates to good sex!

Hopefully, in future Janine b/g videos, Vivid will design scenes that allow her to work in g/g/b scenes, and with Julian. In the meantime, go out and buy Maneater. It's a good start for Janine's comeback.

This long awaited film is a must for any collection. This "docuporn" of Janine's first filmed encounter with men gives the viewer an honest open look at the star with many interviews throughout the feature. Janine explains her past, present and future with the industry and does so with an extreme anount of class.
