Not My Style

By Oranje
So maybe someone can help me out with Redheads are Sexy. No, I get that redheads are, in fact, sexy. I've pretty much always dated brunettes, but I'd like a chance with a redhead. And I don't necessarily mean with this film: there's a lot of money behind it, and Eddie Powell directed it, which means it will be popular but I'll bitch about it. No, my biggest question comes from the line of text on the back: "Redheads are sexy, and yes, the carpet matches her pubes!" What in the fuck is that? Intentionally fucking up the cliché? I can't understand the line as serious or a joke. I could just write this paragraph once and include it in every Eddie Powell film. You look at the shots on the back of the box, and it looks like this film is shot normally. But actually watching it gives you a combination of talent that doesn't really seem all that interested in each other and shots that are almost at random zoom and focus points. There is rarely any heat, and I highly recommend you buy a few pay-per-minute credits and make sure this style is your cup of tea. It works for a bunch of people, I guess, but I really, really hate it. I feel like I can't see the film, like I'm missing three quarters of the action. I do again have to give credit to New Sensations for creating the only commercials at the beginning of a film I actually enjoy. I hope they can keep that up, as well as getting more bedroom products into the mainstream.

On the plus side, Jodi Taylor is in this film, and I've become a huge fan of her as of late. Such natural cuteness doesn't come along in this industry every day. I just hope it isn't ruined by any ideas of overly done makeup or tanning. Jodi's scene opens normally, with a nice pan shot, but then we're almost immediately into zoom and pan mode, and I'm seriously frustrated. Some nice shots of her face, but our position - and hers - seems to randomly change. It's like an even worse version of Robby D. And why does every Eddie Powell scene seem to involve a woman in panties and a shirtless guy wearing jeans? I feel like that's common in every single film. The chemistry between these two really isn't there, as there's a feeling of them not being familiar with each others' bodies. The occasional medium shot as an establisher is nice, but they're rare shots, and we spend so much time zoomed in so far, it's uncomfortable. The penetration parts just feel so impersonal. This doesn't feel like a couple to me, nor does it feel like the way people normally interact in a porn scene. It's this weird, third option where everyone is cool and bored and penetration is almost a mechanical action. There is also the required backlit blowjob scene, and this guy has enough pubes for them to be three dimensional. I like Jodi, but I don't like this scene. A backlit facial in the end, one no one seemed to enjoy.

Marie McCray is quite the popular one these days, and she's out and about chopping flowers off of trees, starving bees and hummingbirds everywhere at the open of her scene. Oh, and look, she's using those petals to decorate her bath. What a heartless bitch. Sorry, I'm kind of bored. An attempt at humour. The initial shot of the bathroom was quite good, but then we're in tight enough where it feels like we're hovering six inches over her. Just way too close. Close enough that an entire breast doesn't fit in the shot, if that tells you anything. This scene actually isn't so bad, as the camera selection is better, though I don't like the lighting all that much. It's alright, but there are more shadows than I'd like. Still, this part is much better than Jodi's entire scene, even if it once again feels completely mechanical. So it's not just the technical elements, but it's the fact that there is no chemistry between the talent throughout most of this, that sex is an act of energy and mechanism, that bothers me so much. Again, most people will love this, but I can't stand the technical philosophy of this film.
