Path of Desire

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and this is unfortunately the case in PATH OF DESIRE, a ho-hum film where the viewer is led into a rather lackluster journey through mediocre porn. Although this video tries hard to emulate the visual beauty and grace of an Andrew Blake film --- with a dash of Oliver Stone's NATURAL BORN KILLERS quick-cut editing style thrown in for good measure --- the results are by and large unsuccessful. As described by hideously fragmented sentence blurbs on the video packaging, this DVD is "a mélange of penetrating scenes shot at an expedition base camp. Filmed in wild locations with the bizarre cutting-edge style of Adriane Gold". True to this video's word, there are a lot of "penetrating scenes" especially during the fucking and sucking, which usually take place in tents, presumably on an "expedition base camp". Moreover, Director Gold's "cutting-edge" style can be rightfully characterized as "bizarre". But unless you are completely taken in by this vague and ambiguous quoted description, you would have to look at the gorgeous cover shots of Taylor Moore, Brittany Andrews and Angelica Sinn to find some reason for buying this otherwise boring release from Legend Video.

I don't mean to be too hard on this particular DVD, certainly I have seen far worse videos and bigger rip-offs in my time. But with only four scenes making up this 90-minute program, the viewer has a right to expect a lot more for his or her money. With the exception of one straight scene with super-cute blonde Tina Cheri, all of the action takes place in a dark, dank tent, which in turn is filmed in a smeary, soft-focus style that simply looks cheap. The sex is actually pretty good, but is marred by the people behind the camera. Brunette and busty Angelica Sinn looks great in her guy-girl opener, which takes place following some lusty masturbation shots, but her vignette, as well as all the others, are filled with distracting flash-cuts of fast-motion landscape scenes and other nonsensical visual tricks. If only Mr. Gold had kept his camera straight on the action without the annoying edits, this video would at least rise to an average rating. As it stands, otherwise great blowjobs and athletic fucking lose their heat due to poor videography.

Although Brittany Andrews is given top billing, it is look-alike Bobbi Barron who serves as narrator and focus of the movie. Fortunately, she shares an excellent lesbian scene with former UP AND CUMMER Taylor Moore. Their blonde bombshell looks and aggressive nature really helps elevate this video from being a near total loss. Their warm, wet tongue kisses and hearty muff diving will give a rise to any viewer and makes their scene eminently repeatable. However, once they are done, we are back to the standard guy-girl scene, this time with Ms. Andrews and Brick Majors, both of whom perform strictly by-the-numbers. Even worse, this is the only scene to employ condoms and to lack a facial, giving a somewhat whimpering end to an already troubled movie.

I have to assume that the blurry, soft-focus look of the DVD is merely a faithful transfer of the original master source, since other Legend Video productions I have reviewed have all looked pretty darn good. The credits on the packaging include someone by the name of "Swan" who neither appears in the video, nor is mentioned in the cast "biography".

When I first saw the title of this DVD, and the prominently placed title "DESIRE" (following the small print "PATH OF") I was immediately reminded of an Andrew Blake film of the same name which first appeared on VCA Video. Starring Racquel Darrian and Savannah, this "old" movie is one of the best films I had ever seen and demands a release on DVD. Unfortunately, PATHS OF DESIRE does not even come close to being a contender for best film, and is probably better left forgotten or lost among the sea of mediocre porn DVDs. Since there are so many other releases from Legend Video worthy of your hard-earned dough, I believe that consumers would be better served spending their time researching Adult DVD Empire's catalog for their next purchases, instead of wasting their time on this throw-away film.
