Ancient Secrets Of The Kama Sutra

If you like couples features, and you like watching people having sex dressed up in exotic costumes, then you will probably like this porno. And if you enjoy Brad Armstrong pictures like "Conquest", you'll probably like this one too. I found it rather disappointing overall, though some of the performances are hot. The costumes just seem kind of silly, and rather unconvincing. Plus it has nothing to do with the Kama Sutra. The sex positions are just garden variety porno positions. I found the lighting bad and the quality of the film poor. If you like harem girls, I'd try Heatwave's "Ultimate Dreams", Penthouse's "Kama Sutra Pleasures", one of those Tip Top Aladdin/Arabian Nights features, or the R-rated "Kama Sutra".

The couple, Dyanna Lauren and Vince Vouyer, first meet up with Veronica Hart as their guide to ancient India. Lauren is certainly very beautiful, but she just doesn't for it for me. This is a couples film designed to make the woman feel like porn is OK, and that sexual fulfillment through fantasy is fine. So Lauren and Hart are the real enthusiasts. It's kind of a "married without children" scenario where the woman talks hubby into becoming a swinger. If your partner is already OK with porn, you can find much better stimulation than what is offered here. It is interesting , however, that this film plays up male anxieties about the female appetite for sex.

The first scene is with the very hot Tatiana (Princess Kali), as she takes on two muscular guys with big cocks after riding up to them on her elephant. Dyanna looks on, while her husband looks rather bored. The scene involves the usual positions, including sucking and fucking before doing a DP. She is very pretty and her makeup looks great. Not very big tits, but natural, and nice looking. In my view, this is by far the best scene of the film. Hart points out that one man is not enough to satisfy her.

Afterwards, Dyanna and Vince meet their guide, Hart, who takes them to the harem of Jon Dough. Two girls get it on, and then he joins in. Again, the couple watch. Afterwards, Dough invites them to dinner, and he and Lauren seem to have a thing for each other.

Dinner, of course, becomes an orgy with seven people. Dough, Lauren and another woman have a three-way, while Voyeur and a woman go at it. Another couple also has sex. Vouyer and Dough then do Lauren. Not a bad scene, but nothing unusual except for some eating during the sex (not a turn on for me).

Next, we see hubby in a bedroom by himself. He picks up the book and we go to Lauren taking a shower and masturbating by herself. Then she shows up in his room and they read together.

The next scene takes place at night in the desert (I always wonder if the sand causes problems!), and has two girls in harem costumes. Stephanie Swift and Felicia star in this scene. Felicia does an anal sequence at the end that is really great. The only distraction is a camel, as the elephant was also a distraction in the first scene. Is there supposed to be some suggestion of here? I guess they are meant to be humorous, but I didn't find them funny.

Then it's back to the bedroom with the couple reading another chapter from the Kama Sutra. This time they have sex, happier now that they have acted out their fantasies. When they leave the next day, Veronica Hart says goodbye to them. A happy ending!

One of the annoying things about this DVD is that it begins with a long MTV-like commercial for Vivid, with sequences from films with each of the Vivid contract girls. It is really just filler, with no heat, so the only thing to do is fast forward through it. Another annoying thing is that the credits don't connect to the performers. So unless you recognize them from other films, you're out of luck figuring who is who. There are nine animated chapter stops, though the first one is just for the opening credits. Though thereare some bonus angles in the sex scenes, they are not great, as is the case with all the Vivid features I've seen. The bonus materials are largely worthless. There are a couple of previews on side A and four clips from award winning Vivid films, the same ones on most Vivid DVDs, plus the standard "Meet the Girls" segment. So if you already own a recent Vivid DVD, you won't find much new here. The disc is two sided. On the reverse side (B), there is a bonus room and an interactive room, both containing clips (a total of twenty-one), a slide show and two previews.

What a tremendous effort Vivid has put forth with this DVD. Later this year, when the "8-inch Golden Ruler"
Awards are given out by The Adult DVD Movie Review Site, don't be surprised if this isn't best picture! AVN already
awarded it it's highest rating! Imagine a film that incorporates lavish sets, exotic locations, top notch wardrobe and make-up,
camels, elephants, and Dyanna Lauren! WOW! That's exactly what you've got here. Did I mention the sex? Wait just a bit, I'll
get there, and it's worth the wait!
The plot is fairly simple. Dyanna Lauren and hubby Vince Vouyer have run into a bit of boredom in the bedroom. They
inquire about Secrets of the Kama Sutra to help them get back on track, and it proves to be just the ticket. They arrive in a
land where they are able to learn the secrets of the Kama Sutra, and believe me, they are quick studies! Remember that old
adage, see one, do one, teach one? Well, they certainly see some great sex, have some great sex, and taught me a few tricks
along the way! All of the sex is very provocative, with lots of foreplay, undressing and such. At times, I thought it was taking a
bit too long to get to the action, but it really made it that much better when someone finally disrobed. Very erotic sex, a great
couples film for sure. Don't get me wrong though, there are plenty of close-up shots, and some terrific money shots. The super
orgy at the Prince's dinner (called a Goyuthi) is not to be missed, and explains why the cast list above is so long! You get most
everything here, double penetration, girl-girl action, strictly anal, and you name it. You're eyes may just fall out of your head
when you see the lesbian scene at the Prince's palace. Simply enormous tits!
The extras were typical for Vivid, and that means first rate. AVN awards footage, Int. Tel. Sex. scenes and Meet The
Girls are all great. I always pull out a Vivid disc to show friends exactly what can be packed onto a disc besides just the
movies!

Intangibles: Dyanna Lauren has officially taken over as my favorite actress! My office wall is loaded with six 8x10's of Jenna
Jameson, all signed. If I had one Dyanna, I'd have to put Jenna away! (Well, I would keep a few of them up!). She has done

Another top notch film by Vivid. Everything was well-done. How could anyone forget the beauty of Dyanna Lauren? She is a true Goddess. Move over Christy, you have serious competition!

Brad Armstrong, who also directed Wicked pictures'
"Conquest" and "Flashpoint," directed this picture
in association with Vivid and Adam and Eve. As a result,
the production values are higher and the transfer to DVD
better than in most Vivid discs.

There's always a gimmick in a Brad Armstrong Feature;
think of the ship in "Conquest" or the fire engines in
"Flashpoint." In this picture, it is the elephants and
the camels. The disc also features stunning costumes and
interior locations. Technically, the disc is superb.
The audio and video were outstanding, just about as
good as in "Flashpoint." Ralph Parfait does the
cinematography, and it is excellent.

Every one of the sex scenes was a winner. Dyanna
Lauren is a very, very lovely woman. If anyone cares,
the disc features an extremely accomplished cast of
studs, including Vince Voyeur, Jon Dough, Steve Drake,
Peter North, and T.T. Boy. Veronica Hart does an
excellent job in a non-sex role and as narrator.
All-in-All, this is a must own; very hot, but also
suitable for couples.

Unfortunately, I must add a negative note. I think
Vivid may have cut out one or more of the scenes that
were on the videotape version of this film. I have
read other reviewers reporting that Vivid has deleted
some of the hottest scenes from the DVD versions of
"Sex" and "Masseuse" and perhaps others as well. The
extras on the "Original Sin" disc include 2 AVN
award-winning scenes from other Vivid releases. One of
these is a scene with Dyanna Lauren and two other girls
wearing costumes that could only have been from "Ancient
Secrets." The scene is extremely hot (as it should be if
it won an AVN award); one girl uses a clear plastic dildo
on Dyanna's anus while another girl eats her pussy.
I welcome a comment from anyone who knows that I'm wrong and
that that scene is actally from another film. If I'm right,
does somebody want to explain why that was left out of the
DVD? If Vivid keeps doing this, it is going to cut down on its
sales, as I suspect that many people buy the DVD of a film that
was one of their favorites on tape, because it is a more durable
format and has better image quality. If the DVD buyer is going
to get a cut-up version, however, they probably won't bother. Again,
some of the crappy, stupid stuff that the supposedly high-end
Vivid people do is amazing to me.

Don't get me wrong, the Disc is still a must own.

I must agree with one of the reviewers that stated this video does not live up to all the "hype" I also watched this movie with my girlfriend who thought the sex scenes were quite tame and at times very monotonous.

I have to commend the effort put forth with the set designs and the costumes but if this movie ranks second and Bodyslammin' 2 is third on the best list then the voting must have been rigged!

A great film for couples, nice story, really well thought out. Costumes and props (Elephants!!).

I've been trying to figure out why this movie got such high reviews. I get the feeling the "reviewers" need to pick out a certain number of "hits" each month... this must have been a slow month.

My wife and I watched together and the sex in the movie was uninspiring. Besides one killer load in the faces of two fat girls, not much to write home about.

The DVD video suffered on the multi-angles, as there was a pause for each shot. Also, it was painfully obvious that this was just extra footage thrown together to look like different angles (I've seen this trick done much better -- even in post production!)

One really odd thing: the flip side of the DVD was an audio CD with gospel music. A strange choice to say the least.

For quality, visual and extras it is one of the best.

After my disappointment with 'Bad Wives' from Vivid, this film was much more fun to watch.

As the other reviewers noted, the sets and costumes are really good. Hey, oriental costumes would make a good fetish, I think. Anyway, I had much fun watching these not-so-usual scenes. A great girl-to-girl scene and some other hot sex, including DP, was very nice to watch, although there were no 'artistic' Kamasutra-scenes.

Vivid's DVD features still could not impress me very much. The Intro film was better than on 'Bad wives', however.

Someone in the packaging department goofed.

Though the cover says "AAA," Ancient Secrets Of The Kama Sutra in fact scored a full five-A rating when we first reviewed it back in Nov. '97. Transferred to DVD, this lavish, shot-on-video production looks and sounds even better than before.

The by-now customary Vivid bonuses are a part of the package; a mixed blessing, frankly, since much of the material already exists on other Vivid titles. I would be great to see more behind-the-scenes stuff, such as director's commentary (like the chat with Paul Thomas on the Control DVD), interviews with the stars, etc. These are, of course, quibbles: After all, it's the great sets and costumes, the all-star cast , and some hot-hot-hot sex (further augmented by the inclusion of multiple angles) that make this one a no-brainer for your adult DVD collection.
