No Man's Land Interracial Edition 1

The standards for background music aren't particularly high in the world of porn, so most of it avoids being bad by being nondescript and easily ignored. Truly bad music occurs only when the director cranks it up over the actors or thinks he's found something of value in its own right. The music of "No Man's Land Interracial Edition, Vol. 1" is some of the worst imaginable for a porn film, yet Tom Stone evidently thinks it's pretty good.
He doesn't use it to hide the sounds of his on-screen talent, but he makes it loud enough to keep it in the foreground of his scenes, just as if it was worth listening to. Why anyone would want to listen to slow, downbeat music during a sex scene is beyond me.

Then again, maybe that's the point and Stone isn't as tone deaf as I think he is. Maybe things aren't always as rosy in the porn world as we've been lead to believe. And maybe, just maybe, there is a kind of retribution for poor performances, and this is it. Probably not, but the truth is that this film is chock full of poor performances, most of which are a perfect visual complement to the music.

As a whole, the first three scenes are simply dull. Gayle Monique seems out of it during her scene with Tylene Tan and Kenya. Jill Kelly merely goes through the motions with Dee. And Avalon, in her scene with China, either doesn't know how to eat pussy or doesn't particularly want to. This is especially unfortunate given the nature and number of this film. It strikes me that beginning a series featuring interracial sex with such passionless performances as these is a very sad commentary on sexual integration.

Stone tries to inject some energy into his last scene by pulling out all the stops. What he gets is a jumbled mess in which two of the girls, first Violet then Charmane, actually use butterfly vibes. For those unfamiliar with the device, a butterfly is a strap-on vibrator that fits over the vagina and stimulates the clitoris. For all I know, they're wonderful tools for hands-free masturbation, but they're about as sexually stimulating for the viewer as a mind-fuck: there's simply nothing to see. Stone also throws in a -shaped vibe and two strap-on dildos, one black and one white. The black dildo does the fucking, but it's the white one that cums. I assume it's water that gets squirted onto Violet and Charmane, but Violets spits it back out like it's the real thing.

"NML Interracial" isn't a story film, but it begins like one. Kenya finds Gayle Monique sunbathing by the pool, asks her if she's hungry, and the two walk inside to eat. In the kitchen, they wonder what they should have, and decide on Chinese. Their minds made up, they enter the dining room to find Tylene Tam spread out on the table. Not much of a joke, but it could have worked if they'd stuck to it. By the end of the scene, however, Kenya is using a large black strap-on on Gayle and poor Tylene is left to masturbate alone in the background. Worse still, she isn't even allowed to finish.

Porn directors tend to go about their business one scene at a time, and it's no coincidence that most porn watchers do, as well. A scene in which two chicks bring another to climax without getting off themselves would be a departure from the norm, to be sure, but not without precedent. Since this is an interracial film, it's worth noting that exactly this happens in the all-black "Sista 7" and to good effect. And that scene wasn't so ideally set up for it as this one, either.

The best scene in the film - and that's a relative judgment if ever there was one - is the fourth, with Kenya and Megan. At least, each position the girls get into offers something of value, from the extended kiss opening through some decent 69 and on to a two-headed dildo finish. Kenya may even cum at the end of it, though Megan doesn't appear to.

Moments are sometimes all we get from porn movies, brief flashes of what could have been. All that sticks in the memory of this film, however, are its oddities. The squirting strap-on is one. The other is a shot straight down through the butt-end of a crystal dildo, giving us a view of Jill Kelly only her gynecologist may have seen before. Well, we can at least be thankful we weren't intruding on her proctologist's domain.
