And I wonder, still I wonder, Who'll stop the Rain?
Emerald Rain tells the story of Tyler McCabe (Evan Stone), a man obsessed with finding the secrets of life in the Amazon rainforest. His primary adversary is Shady O'Gray (John Decker) who is looking to stop Tyler and maybe put in a shopping mall or gas station or something like that in the rainforest's place.
While weak on plot, the movie (which was actually filmed on location in Venezuela and the Amazon jungle) is visually stunning and worth picking up just to see the beautiful locations most of us will never get to see in person.
Most of the film is told in voiceover by Ava Vincent, who plays Evan's ex-girlfriend, Eden James. Eden is accompanied on her journey by William Benson (Dale DaBone), a man who we find out later in the film she is engaged to. So when we first see Ava and Dale make out on the beach, we think the two are giving in to pent up passion, and that Ava is so horny she can't wait for Evan before she has sex. Once we find out the two are actually engaged, this takes away from the passion of their scene...which is already over of course, but which I am guessing wouldn't be nearly as appealing to watch the second time through.
But it's not like Evan is waiting around for his lost love to show up, either. He takes on Alexa (not the Wicked star...this is a brunette chick) near a waterfall, and later not only performs a wedding ceremony (he's a doctor and a priest!), but gets to have a three-way with the newly married couple...now that's what I call an open marriage!
Ava finally tracks down Evan, but so does John Decker, who suddenly seems to have a change of heart and joins the "tribe" (although I'm guessing he's going to be the first one voted off at tribal council!). Of course, John is only pretending to be nice, and he later brings in the bulldozers to run over Evan's little piece of paradise.
There are a lot of similarities between Emerald Rain, and the 1992 Sean Connery vehicle Medicine Man, in which Connery plays a doctor living in the Brazilian rainforest who has stumbled upon the cure for cancer...only to lose it when developers slash and burn the place. But while that movie made clear what the great discovery actually was, Emerald Rain is more vague...saying only that Evan has discovered the source for all life on the planet...umm...yeah, so how does that help us?
The real reason to pick up this DVD is for the bonus features, which are loaded with extra goodies, including a behind the scenes featurette, two bonus sex scenes (one with Evan and Briana Banks, and another with Evan and Isabella), 15 previews, cast biographies and much more. The video and audio for this disc are also nicely done.
As with most Adam & Eve productions, this is basically a couples' film, although there are a number of facials and a few scenes that include anal action. The real reason to recommend this film, however, is not for the plot (or even the sex), but for the visuals that you are not going to find in too many other adult productions. Some of the scenery is truly stunning. However, unless you are a tree-hugging hippie or an environmentalist who is into porn, Emerald Rain is probably going to wow you with its locations rather than seduce you with its sex.
Great movie
Hot sex scenes, ripoff story (what kind of porn doesn't do that?), and great features - especially the additional scene with Briana Banks. This DVD is a must-see!
