Can you believe there was a time when Jenna Jameson didn't get top billing? Wicked probably doesn't want you to realize it but Jenna isn't the lead in this movie. Instead, Asia Carrera takes the challenge of carrying this 1995 Bud Lee movie in three out of its five scenes. Jenna's role is still important to the story, but fans will want to note her appearance is limited to the final scene. But don't let that disappoint you because this movie has plenty of action and nasty surprises to keep any porn fan happy. Plus it was shot before the major studios implemented their mandatory condom policies...a big plus in my book.

When I first saw the title of this movie, I couldn't help but think of the late 70s cult horror movie of the same name. Don't worry, this movie has nothing to do with grave robbers or embalming fluid. Instead, the story follows a couple (Asia and T.T. Boy) as they try to perform their way to the top of an exclusive sex club. Along the way they are faced with several "sexual challenges" that they must overcome before they get to the final stage: an encounter with the club's proprietor, played by Jenna Jameson.

For the first challenge, Asia and T.T. are led to a cage in which Bridgette Monroe is restrained. Soon after their arrival, Goldie Star (wearing a huge strap-on) and a masked man (John Decker) enter the cage. Goldie yells at Bridgette and orders her to suck their cocks. Even though the movie is a bit older, the quality of the DVD is pretty good. This was obviously shot on conventional video equipment, but the transfer looks pretty crisp for the most part. However, since most of the movie is shot in dark settings, there's some noticeable pixelation and general blotchiness in the darker colors and shadows; especially the blacks. The audio isn't anything special but it's well mixed and more than serves its intended purpose. In addition to the expected slide show and cast bios, Wicked has thrown in a mish-mash of unrelated extras to fill out the disc.

Phantasm really surprised me. I wasn't expecting this much heat out of a mid 90s production from Wicked. This is mainly attributed to Asia Carrera. She gives three solid noteworthy performances here and her nasty encounter with Tom Byron is a must-see for any of her fans. Jenna is good as usual, but she's definitely outperformed by Asia and a few of the other cast members. Even if the story is a little light and the production values a bit low, Phantasm provides five solid sex scenes...enough for my recommendation.
