Sorority Sex Kittens 5

Director Jim Holliday steps behind the lens one more time to direct Sorority Sex Kittens 5, but this time it seems like Holliday has lost a little of the originality that makes him such a fan favorite, and has just given us more of the same. That's not to say that the sex action is boring...it's just that it's the same kind of stuff that we have been seeing from Holliday for years, and this time the story and dialogue is just not interesting enough to keep us tuned in.

The movie opens with a teaming of Vivian Valentine (who is going under the name of Phoenix Haight here) and Steve Hatcher. Steve skips the pleasantries and goes straight for the anal action. As with most Holliday titles, the actual sex is well shot, well lit and features an appealing point of view. I just couldn't help but feel, however, that I had seen this all before.

Next up is a lesbian tryst with Sindee Coxx and Shayla LaVeaux. Once again, Holliday goes back to his old bag of tricks and gives us more toe sucking than the average porn fan would like to see. Holliday has claimed (and he does again here on the commentary track) that he puts toe sucking in a lot of his scenes because he has talked to and received messages from a lot of fans telling him that this is what they want in their porn action. Well, let me be the first to pass Jim along a message from the rest of us porn viewers: Enough with the toe sucking! A few films featuring this was fine...but it's time to move on!

The film's best sequence comes next, as Tiffany Mynx (you know, the woman with the perfect...and I do mean perfect...ass) and Devin Wolf go at it. There's some more anal action in this segment, and a fantastic facial that is worth rewinding your player to watch a few more times.

After a scene with Vivian and Evan Stone, followed by another lesbian coupling featuring Keri Windsor and Envy (in which Keri uses a strap on!), we get a reasonably fun scene with Evan being blindfolded and getting his cock sucked by five other girls: Barrett Moore, Diana DeVoe, Envy, Vivian Valentine, and Tina Cheri. Each girl also gets to ride him reverse cowgirl style before Evan finally jerks off on their outstretched hands.

As with other Sorority Sex Kitten titles, the big scene is saved for last: an eight girl orgy. Jim is careful to put just the right amount of women in the scene here...enough to keep you interested, but not so many that you lose track of whom is doing whom.

But while some of the sex is indeed good, the sum of the parts don't add up to another Holliday masterpiece. Instead, this title seems a little lacking in life, and I found myself not nearly laughing as much at the dialogue or getting as hard as I usually do watching a Holliday-filmed sex scene. Holliday claims in the commentary that he doesn't like to waste a lot of time with dialogue when he can get right to the sex (he uses the scene between Keri Windsor and Envy as an example). However, Jim told Adult DVD Empire in his interview that he enjoyed "the tease" of a scene, just as long as the payoff was good...and that is really what is missing in Sorority Sex Kittens 5. We don't have an investment in these characters as viewers, so when they do get together for some sex, it isn't nearly as interesting or erotic as it should be.

There are some pluses to this DVD however, the biggest of which is the wonderful commentary by Jim Holliday, who is joined by Sydnee Steele and Shayla LaVeaux. This is one aspect to VCA's more recent Holliday DVDs that I have really enjoyed, and I wish more adult directors would do it. I love to hear Jim's stories about how a certain scene was filmed, and he always provides a lot of insight to the industry as a whole and his experiences in it. To quote a famous literary work: Please sir, I want some more!

The video and audio on this feature are also top notch, although there were a few glitches in the video that prevented it from obtaining a perfect score (one of which appeared to be a poorly timed layer change). The bonuses on this disc include a behind the scenes featurette, a slide show, previews, star bios, multiple angles, a chapter selection that includes the ability to jump to your favorite fetish, and the aforementioned director's commentary track.

If you've only seen a few Jim Holliday titles, Sorority Sex Kittens 5 will probably appeal to you...and if you're a Holliday enthusiast, you'll probably enjoy this DVD as well. However, for the rest of us, we've seen better from 'ol Jimbo, and I hope his next feature will return to the wonder and wit that we have seen from him in the past.
